Windscreen wiper defective audi ошибка q7

This popped up Thursday morning while ~150 miles from home and the wipers would not work. Turned a 2 hours drive into a very long drive waiting out the storms.

The error message might be windshield wiper defective (putting both in the post to help future searches).

Below is the 09-Cent. Elect. snippet from a complete Auto Scan. I did go into 09-Cent. Elect., cleared the DTC and it comes back instantly.

Most of my googling returns others with the error, but those posts report functioning wipers, while ours are not.

Before we got home to the scanner, we tried
Cycle car (several times, not change)
Hand movement of the wiper arms to see if they were jammed — no resistance, but did not move them very far (2-3 inches measured at the center of the wiper blade)
Opening/closing hood (read Q7 wipers will not operate with open hood) — no change and instrument cluster does not indicate hood open when it is closed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

No communication, but no short to B+ or ground makes me think a CAN line issue. Maybe a loose connection and some water got in it?

Funny they had to use a module for the wipers….

Sorry for not updating this earlier.

After Nero’s reply, I started with the basics — fuse was blown.

Okay, easy/peasy replace the fuse, well the replacement fuse blew as I was inserting it. Maybe a bigger fuse? (kidding)

Research how to remove the wiper motor and mechanism, and beyond the hassle of getting the arms to come off the posts nothing too complicated. next I tried to disassemble the motor assembly and it seems the motor is seized into the casing. So, I ordered a replacement unit.

Once the unit arrived, I was able to get the new motor and wiper arm «transmission» installed. The final difficult step was getting the transmission arms onto the pivot and the wipers set to the proper position.

On a related note, I applied Rain-X product to the front windshield & rear window on both of our Q7’s and replaced the plastic cowl on this Q7, as the existing 1 had a folded edge where it sets into the groove at the bottom of the windshield — OEM piece for $140 shipped didn’t feel too bad.

+1 for RainX, stuff is awesome. Favorite way is to buff Nu-finish once a year car polish on the glass, clean with rubbing alcohol and then put the rainX on, rain just beads right off.
Glad you got it fixed! Wondering what caused this in the first place..

Follow-up

Wipers have not seemed normal ever since the R&R with what was sold as an OEM part. And I finally got tired when the pass side wiper pulled the drivers side wiper/blade off the arm while driving on the interstate in a heavy down pour.

I’ve since pulled a used unit off a Q7 at the local self serve salvage yard and replaced with the motor/brain and transmission. Function/movement seems much better, now we wait for it to rain.

   Can you put them into the service position via the MMI? Are they parking in the proper spot or are they going beyond the normal position into the cowl tray when parking (i.e., too low when parked)? Have you changed the wipers recently, had a windshield replaced, etc.? Any unusual noises when the wipers are operating? Do the wipers work on all speeds, including intermittent?

   Also saw a thread about a Q7 with the wipers defective message at this thread. The guy got this on a scan:

   VCDS says

   00908 Control Module for Wiper Motor
   03 Mechanical Failure — Intermittent

   Found one more piece of info here. Shows an icon of a windshield with a wiper. It states: «This symbol in the electronics for the windscreen wipers. Take the vehicle to a qualified workshop indicates a malfunction in the electronics for the windscreen wipers. Take the vehicle to a qualified workshop to have the windscreen wiper system repaired.»

   Lastly, here’s a page showing the indicator lights for a 2016 S4.. Couldn’t find one for a 2012.

   Was thinking it could be the rain sensor as that was the only thing I didn’t test. Fortunately, after two days of being on it didn’t come on today for my drive home from work.

   Will swing by my indy shop when I’m near them and have them check to see if it threw a code.

   So far so good (for now)!

   Message didn’t come back, but wipers stopped working two days ago. Replaced the wiper motor including the attached control module. All good now.

Ошибки могут регистрироваться как в виде статических, так и в виде спорадических.

Изменение техпроцесса изготовления с даты выпуска:

Начиная с номера шасси:

Проверить надёжность соединения 10-контактного разъёма 1 (см. рисунок) в фаре.

При расшатанном соединении его необходимо плотно зафиксировать, проверить, потянув разъём, правильно ли он зафиксирован.

Перед фиксацией разъёма необходимо проверить контакты (половин разъёма) на предмет повреждений (погнуты, разбиты по размеру или провалились).

При обнаружении повреждения его следует устранить доступными средствами сервис-центра.

При фиксации неплотного разъёма обратить внимание на то, что прокладка жгута проводов 2 (см. рис.) не должна вызывать усилия растяжения 10-контактного разъёма 1 (рис.).

При необходимости жгут проводов 2 (см. рис) немного подтянуть, чтобы разгрузить разъём.

(На рисунке разъём на газоразрядной лампе отсоединён для наглядности.)

Для тех, кому надоело каждые 10 минут включать приёмник, при выключенном двигателе

Заходим в блок «Радио», далее в адаптацию, находим 3 канал, меняем 10 на любое, до 99

Headlight washer — duration of wash (отключение омывателей фар):

Активация скрытого меню Ауди Q5 (Audi Q5)

1. Подключаемся к блоку 07 (Для MMI 3G — блок 5F)

2. Входим в Адаптацию — 10

4. Поменять значение с 0 на 1.

6. Перезагрузить MMI (нажать одновременно SETUP + шайбу + правую верхнюю кнопку и отпустить когда экран погаснет).

This change allows the brake lights to flash rapidly in the event of emergency braking.

Разводка колодок для самостоятельной их замены:

в Базовые установки, 7 канал развести колодки

6 канал свести колодки; 10-й протестировать/адаптировать

1) Развод поршней
-Автомобиль поднят, задние колеса сняты. Электромеханический стояночный тормоз НЕ активирован. Зажигание включено.

Соединяемся с блоком управления: 53-Электромеханический стояночный тормоз , выбираем 04-Базовые установки, ставим канал 07 и когда готовы жмем Enter, счетчик в окошках начнет менятся а поршни будут передвигаться в сервисную позицию. !Внимание! Убедись в надежности связи c VagCom! Если в момент движения поршней связь пропадет, система может быть повреждена!

-VagCom остается подключенным, Соединяемся с блоком управления: 53-Электромеханический стояночный тормоз , выбираем 04-Базовые установки, ставим канал 06 и когда готовы жмем Enter, счетчик в окошках начнет менятся а поршни будут передвигаться в рабочую позицию.

Выключите и включите на время зажигание. Лампа ЭлМех. стояночного тормоза мигает, выжмите педаль тормоза и держите ее в нажатом положении, нажмите кнопку «ЭлМех. стояночного тормоза». Лампа ЭлМех. стояночного тормоза гаснет.

Все! Затем надо провести базовую установку тормозной системы:

Соединяемся с блоком управления: 53-Электромеханический стояночный тормоз , выбираем 04-Базовые установки, ставим канал 10 и жмем Enter. Задние тормоза отрабатывают 3 раза, результат можно посмотреть в блоке измерения 1, поле 1.

Вклчение заводской индикации сигнализации при постановке на сигнализацию

46 блок-07кодинг-Helper — вайт1 — бит 2 -флаг поставить. ну или 0 поменять на 1. И проверить 62 канал адаптации. Должно быть 44

Сброс киллометрожа и дней до сервиса и до смены масла. (Данные до сервиса стираются только с помощью VAG COMа)

17 блок (приборка), 10 (адаптация) каналы 40, 41, 53, 55 поставить «0» тест и сохранить.

Автоматическое закрывание окон и люка с пульта:

Предварительно советую записать старую кодировку где нибудь на листочке чтобы потом была возможность вернуть всё назад в случае неудачи. Сам не пробовал, пишу с чужого опыта, но по логике должно работать.

Идем в блок 46- Central Conv., Long Coding — 07, Идем в пятый байт, снимаем все галки (вот здесь у меня сомнения насчёт ВСЕ ГАЛКИ), и ставим одну Comfort Function Automatic Closing (bit 6). «Exit», «Do it», «Done, go back». Все заработало.

Алгоритм теперь такой: ставим на охрану, но кнопку не отпускаем, держим в течение секунды, окна начали движение. Отпускаем кнопку и идем по своим делам, все закроется само.

Расшифровки по битам для тех, у кого VCDS не даёт подсказки:

While every generation and model of Audi will have slightly different dashboard indicator and warning lights, every one of these sends a specific message to the driver as per the activities and the operations within the Audi. These messages are normally triggered by the respective sensors to make the drive easier, safer and comfortable during all times of the day and in all types of weather conditions. One of such sensors is rain/light sensor which is standard equipment on all the newer models but the same can be retrofitted in old models of before 2015 such as Audi A4L, Avant, Allroad, Audi A5 cabriolet, Audi Q5, Infinity Q50 etc. This sensor also triggers a message when anything goes wrong with the sensor and its functioning and your dashboard lights up with the corresponding message as follows:

With the display of these messages, windshield wipers, automatic headlights and other functions are put to the cease by the automatic functions of the car.

Where this rain/light sensor is located?

You’ll find this sensor inside the glass of windshield near the rear view mirror. The main function of this sensor is to analyze the overall brightness outside the car and control the automatic daytime running light/main beam headlights and automatic wipers. With the help of this sensor, car tune itself according to the outside weather and environment and make the automatic headlights and wipers function accordingly.

Rain/light detection sensor mechanism

The rain sensor works on the principal of total internal reflection by making the use of infrared radiations. If the water droplets are found on the windshield the infrared light beam scatters and reflects back at different angles showing that there is rain outside and windshield in wet. In case of no rain or a dry windshield, the full amount of light returns to the photodiode. When the amount of light reflected back is found reduced than the level preset by the software inside the sensor, it automatically switches on the wiping mechanism of the car to start the drying process.

The software also determines the speed of the wipers depending on the amount of moisture accumulation. However, this speed of wipers changes according to the detection of moisture by the sensor.

The light sensor is located at the base of the windshield under the defogger grill. The sensitivity of the sensor is either set by the auto manufacturer or the driver. The sensor is activated by the lighting conditions at dawn or dusk. If the sensor detects dark outside conditions or a car is driven in enclosure such as car park garage the system will illuminate the headlights as auto function. The lights may switch off up to five minutes after the engine has been turned off. The driver has the ability to bypass the functions of the automatic headlamps by operating the light switch or some other device in the car. If the driver inadvertently leaves the lights on, a reminder chime will ring so the driver can turn them off. Similarly, the driver can also switch the lights ON when there is dark and DRLs are not turned ON automatically.

Functional limitations of rain/light sensor

There are limitations to both sensors, as there are certain conditions that become difficult for a computer to understand. The rain sensors can be thrown off by debris or dirt on the windscreen which alters the amount of light reflected back, the dirt can also affect the light sensors which are blocked off from any light. This can be remedied with a squirt of windscreen wiper fluid and a quick wipe across the windscreen. If the light persists then you may want to have a car wash.

The light sensor is also thrown off by fog or intense rainfall since light can still be detected. And since the light sensor only detects the light, so they comes out ON even when the something is blocking the sunlight or the driver is parking the car without realizing if the darkness level is due to sunset or just a temporary blackout during the day.

Is it safe to drive with rain and light warning light on?

Relying on automatic systems can leave you in trouble when they decide to stop working. You must be prepared to take control of the vehicle in all situations. For safety reasons, the dipped beam headlights will then be switched on permanently when the light switch is set to the AUTO position. However, you can still switch the lights on and off in the normal way with the light switch. If the rain sensor is defective, the functions operated via the windscreen wiper lever will still be available.

 If your rain and light sensor warning light is on when there is no rain or when it is still bright outside then in the first place, it is better that you give your car sometime to adjust to the outside environment as sometimes the software may not adapt quickly to the changes in the outside conditions and fails to function properly.

If this technique doesn’t work and the auto functions of light and rain sensors do not resume to their stored function then the light/rain sensor is malfunctioning.

How to fix the malfunction rain/light sensor

Though, the last resort option is the replacement of faulty sensor but before doing that, try to clean and leave the vehicle at some warm place. Otherwise, replacing the faulty sensor with the new one is a quick and easy fix to address this warning message.

Replacement Guide

You can replace the sensor by yourself or may contact any professional mechanic or an Audi dealer to have the replacement done for your model. Removal of a faulty sensor and installation of a new one can go about as follows if you wish to do it on your own:

Removal Instructions:

• Carefully disconnect the electrical connector and gently press down retaining spring.
• Use a small screwdriver to release from the lock
• Without exerting force, release the sensor and gel pad slowly and gradually pulling on the plug side.

Installation Instructions:

• Clean the assembling area with an alcohol-based cleaner before installation
• Gently press on the two spring clips on the retaining frame position to position the sensor in the assembly area. Now audibly engage the retaining clip by increasing the pressure on the right and then the left spring arm in turn. The sensor should not be tilted while increasing pressure. Do not engage both spring arms at the same time.
• Lock electrical connector in connector housing and check if it is fitted correctly.

Post-replacement checking new rain/light sensor

If the new rain/light sensor is installed properly then the warning message should have been disappeared and the sensor should work perfectly fine. You can ensure this by simulating the precipitation on the windscreen and the wipers should start and adapt quickly to the simulated rain intensity. If it does, the installation is successful but if there is no response, but the manually activated wiper stages are working properly then you may need to take your car to the dealer for further diagnostics.
