При установке VMware Tools на новую виртуалку очень часто, а может быть даже и всегда, получаю ошибку «VMWare Tools installation cannot be started while Easy Install is in progress», что переводится примерно так «Установка VMware Tools не может быть запущена в то время как идет Easy Install «.
Не помню уже сколько времени я потратил на поиск того, как отключить Easy Install в настройках самой программы, но даже похожего в настройках не нашел. Искал как получается всегда не там где нужно. Как потом оказалось, эта ошибка возникает по вине не размонтированной загрузочной дискеты в флоппи дисководе, необходимой для установки Операционной Системы. Вот это нами мешает. Если вы зайдете на флоппи дисковод то увидите примерно тоже самое, что и на картинке внизу.
Чтобы навсегда избавиться от ошибки надо сделать несколько действий. Если виртуальная машина у вас запущена, то ее следует выключить и зайти в настройки. В настройки можно попасть выбрав вашу машину и нажав на «Edit virtual machine settings» или нажав комбинацию клавиш CTRL+D. В настройках следует перейти на вкладку Floppy и в группе Connection выбрать «Use physical drive», в выпадающем меню «Auto detect» и нажать OK. Вот мы и размонтировали загрузочную дискету, которая нам мешала установить VMware Tools.
Загрузив Операционную Систему вы сможете без ошибок установить VMware Tools.

You will run into this issue if:
- The image of the tools is already mounted on the guest VM.
- The system doesn’t have a virtual optical drive.
- You have connected the virtual machine’s virtual CD/DVD drive to an ISO image file when you installed the operating system — the usual way to install the VMware Tools is to start the guest machine and then from the VMware Workstation Player menu choose Manage > Install VMware Tools.

The VMware Tools is a free set of services and modules that enable several features in the guest virtual machine – for example, faster graphics performance, improved mouse performance and the most significant is the ability to transfer files between Virtual Machine and Host Computer (similar to the Drag and Drop support in VirtualBox). The VMware tools are required to be installed if you want to enable the extra VMware features on the guest machine — although the guest OS can normally run without the VMware Tools installed.
So, if the Install VMware Tools option is greyed out on the guest OS, then you can follow the step-by-step instructions below to resolve this issue.
- Shut down the Virtual Machine.
- Right-click on the virtual machine and select Settings.
- Under the Hardware tab on the left sidebar, select the CD/DVD Drive and then click the Remove button.
- Next, select Floppy Drive and click the Remove button.
- Next, click on the Add button.
- Select CD/DVD Drive.
- Click the Finish button.
The right pane should now have the option Use Physical Drive > Auto Detect enabled as previously the Windows ISO is selected hence the issue.
- Click OK to close the settings options.
- Now, start the Virtual Machine.
- Click the Player drop-down.
- From the menu, select Manage.
- Click Install VMware Tools.

How do I fix VMware Tools not running?
If the VMware Tools installation does not start automatically on your computer, you can manually start the VMware Tools Installer by following these steps: choose Settings > Cancel VMware Tools Install. Again, choose Settings > VMware Tools Install, then click the Install button in the dialog box that appears. If you can’t install VMware Tools, the CD-ROM drive may not work if the operating system assigns the incorrect driver which is also assigned to the NIC, and VMware Tools cannot be installed without a CD-ROM drive. To resolve this issue, you must assign the correct driver.

How to install VM Tools in vSphere?
To install VM Tools in vSphere, follow these steps:
In vSphere Client – Hosts and Clusters view
- Right-click the Virtual Machine > Guest OS > Install VMware Tools.
In vSphere Web Client
- Click the All Actions icon > Configuration > Install/Upgrade VMware Tools.
In vSphere Host Client
- Click Actions > Guest OS from the drop-down menu and select Install VMware Tools.

When you mess around in VMware ESXI like us, you are bound to find a bug or two sooner or later. Recently we ran into the “VMware Tools not installed on this Virtual Machine” error after a fresh installation of Windows Server 2016. We were stumped to see this error and tried reinstalling VMware Tools a few times without any luck. You may see this error in Windows Server 2019 installations, and it is a bit tricky to resolve. Specifically, we ran into this error on VMware ESXI 6.5 (Build 4887370).
VMware Tools Not Installed on this Virtual Machine Error
When we first received this error, we’ve Googled it and were unable to find an answer quickly and without much searching; therefore decided to write this article. If you have found the resolution helpful, please leave us a comment below.
First, we would like to mention again that you will not fix the error by simply reinstalling VMware Tools. The installation will complete successfully, and you will still see the VMware Tools not installed error message.
VMware Tools Not Installed Fix
First, you will need to uninstall VMware Tools from the Virtual Machine completely. The built-in Microsoft Windows Uninstaller will do the job.
Second, Mount the VMware Tools ISO to your Virtual Machine as follows. In your case, it may just say “Install VMware Tools.”
Third, Browse to “This PC,” then right-click on the VMware Tools ISO Mount as shown below, then click to open the folder.
Right-click on the setup64.exe file and then click on “Run as Administrator.”
After installation, reboot your Virtual Machine. VMware will now mark VMware Tools installation as successful and running on your Virtual Machine.
After a successful installation of VMware Tools, you can verify the status under the General Information section of the Virtual Machine, as shown below.

To (re)install VMware Tools, you must mount the VMware Tools CD image, extract the contents (VMware Tools), and then run the installer.
To mount the CD image and extract the contents:
Power on the virtual machine.
Log into the virtual machine using an account with administrator or root privileges.
Go to Virtual Machine > Install VMware Tools (or VM > Install VMware Tools).
Note: If you are running the light version of Fusion, a version of Workstation without VMware Tools, or VMware Player, you are prompted to download VMware Tools before they can be installed. Click Download Now to begin the download.
Open the VMware Tools CD mounted on the desktop.
Right-click the file name that is similar to VMwareTools.x.x.x-xxxx.tar.gz, click Extract to, and select the Desktop to save the extracted contents.
The vmware-tools-distrib folder is extracted to the Desktop.
To install VMware Tools:
Open a Terminal window. For more information, see Opening a command or shell prompt (1003892).
In the Terminal, run this command to navigate to the vmware-tools-distrib folder:
cd Desktop/vmware-tools-distrib
Run this command to install VMware Tools:
/vmware-install.pl -d
Note: The -d switch assumes that you want to accept the defaults. If you do not use -d, press Return to accept the defaults or supply your own answers.
Restart the virtual machine after the VMware Tools installation completes.
Vmware Tool Services Fail error is now gone.
Всем добрый день! Бывает ситуация, когда в VMware Workstation с виртуализированнной ОС Windows при нажатии кнопки «установить VMware Tools» выскакивает ошибка «Установка VMware Tools не может быть запущена вручную во время выполнения быстрой установки». Как это победить?
Решение:
В меню «Виртуальная машина» — «параметры» — «дисковод» поменять «файл образа дискеты: autoinst.flp» на «физический диск: автоопределение».
После этого у вас в системе появится второй сd-rom с установщиком VMware Tools. Нажимаем setup.exe и ждем окончания установки. По окончании система попросит перезагрузиться. После перезагрузки VMware Tools будет работать. Рад если помог кому-то. Удачи!!!
