Recently bought Stellaris on steam, and when I try launching the game through steam I get this message.

I have tried the steps listed on other forum threads and reddit posts about uninstalling the game, deleting all paradox interactive folders located in the appdata folders and in the steam common folders, then running steam as administrator and reinstalling the game. After doing that I still run into this problem, I can get the game to launch via the Stellaris exe. but I’d still like to fix this problem. If anyone has any other kind of solution that can help fix this problem, I’d gladly take the help!

Please try this:

— exit the Steam app completely
— uninstall Paradox Launcher v2 from the Windows «Apps and features» utility, if still present.

Delete the following folders if still present:
— C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/
— C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/
— C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Roaming/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/

— run steam.exe as the Windows Admin user
— run Stellaris from the Steam PLAY button

I hope that works for you!

I tried following these steps a couple times when I saw them on other threads, and it didn’t change anything. Although when I checked there wasn’t any Paradox Interactive folders or files within the C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/ or in the C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Roaming/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/ locations. I’m not sure if that might be part of the issue? But other wise I’ve followed those steps a couple of times with no results for the launcher installation.

Running Steam as the Admin user should get past that 1603 error, are you sure you did that?

Yes, I have tried running Steam as the Admin multiple times after making sure all instances of Steam have been closed. I still run into the same issue of the installer stopping midway through, stating that my sysytem has not been modified.

Hmmm. In the same folder as Stellaris.exe is dowser.exe . In properties, compatibility set that to run as the Windows Admin user, then do the stuff from post #2 above again please.

I have already done that in a previous attempt, but I followed the steps again. Still getting the same results, nothing seems to fix this issue for me.

Sorry, running out of ideas here.

Try making a new Windows user, log into Windows as that user, then do the steps from post #2 above yet again.

Here’s hoping!

We should not have to deal with shoddy software. I’ve bought every single DLC for this game and could play it perfectly before. Now all of a sudden I’m getting the same issues as the OP

This thread is from January, there have been several game and launcher updates since then. It’s unlikely your issue has the same cause.

I’ll close this thread now, please make your own new thread with full system details and problem history. Thanks!
