Detect and install all currently connected scsi devices

New PC Build won’t post and A6 Error code

josh01

Reputable

Desperate for some help please!

I’ve just completed a brand new build using the Gigabyte Z97X Gaming G1 (motherboard.

I’m continually seeing the code A6 on the debug digital meter.
A6 Detect and install all currently connected SCSI devices.

To troubleshoot, I uninstalled the SSD I was going to use as my main Windows Boot Drive and the CD/DVD Writer. I also uninstalled the MSI R9 390 GPU card. Still I get the error code A6. What’s causing this problem?

I then uninstalled the 2 sticks of Corsair Vengeance RAM, 16Gb (2×8)Gb) DDR3/1066, trying one stick only in each slot and then two sticks and swapping around again, still the error code of A6.

Is this A6 code the main cause of me not being able to boot from the SSD when everything is installed and connected?

I’m not hearing any POST beeps but maybe that’s because I don’t have a speaker wire in the case that goes to the relevant header. Is there a speaker on the motherboard?

All parts for this build are brand new, all purchased within the last couple of weeks.

Mother board Gigabyte Z97X Gaming G1.
Graphics GPU MSI R9 390.
Power Supply is an Enermax Platimax 1500Watt.
CPU Intel I5 4690K.
RAM Corsair Vengeance 16Gb (2x8Gb) DDR3 1066
Crucial MX200 SSD.

Hi,

I just started my new build with a MSI X570 Unify Motherboard but when i’m in bios i see an error code A6.
I did not installed windows yet, but i updated my bios to the latest firmware.

I need help to fix this error code.
Thanks!

What is ez debug leds indication?
What drives do you have connected?
And other hardware >>Posting Guide<<

darkhawk

  • #3

Remove all drives, etc….
Just use a barebones setup and try booting.
MB+ RAM + CPU + GPU, and see if it boots.

  • #4

Board: MSI X570 Unify
BIOS: E7C35AMS.A20
VGA: Sapphire 5700XT Nitro+
PSU: Corsair RX850X
CPU: AMD 3800X
MEM: 2x8GB, 4500MHz Corsair Vengeance LPX CMK16GX4M2F4500C19
HDD/SSD: 1x XPG SX8200 Pro 500GB, 1x XPG SX8200 Pro 2TO, 2x Samsung Evo 860 500GB
COOLER: Dark Rock Pro 4
Keyboard: Logitech G512
Mouse: Logitech G403
OC: None
OS: Not installed yet (Windows 10 64bit Professional)

In Bios, all 4 driver are detected correctly.
But in the photo is the code can be Ab or is it A6?

A6 — SCSI Detect
AB — Setup Input Wait

I think i will go further and try to install windows and see if the code still there while not in bios.

Do yourself a favor and cover those leds with electrical tape, there is no need for them unless does not work.

well, it will show cpu temp after startup.

On AMD boards, these arent always error codes.    In fact, most of them are not.  All this one is saying is that something has been detected.

A6 generally is shown when the computer is in BIOS Setup
and its not really error indicator,
but a code where the PC is located on the moment.

Do you see anything on the screen?
If so, just ignore it and proceed with what you planning to do.

Yes i see this while i’m in bios, (Windows not installed yet)
I see the screen bios with no problem, if fact everything look normal.
So i will just proceed to windows installation.

Thanks

yep, then this is like suppose to be and not some error.
they are checkpoints codes,
they can become an error only if the computer stuck or can’t boot.
[typically A6 is the checkpoint code when the computer is inside BIOS Setup]

You are using an out of date browser. It may not display this or other websites correctly.
You should upgrade or use an alternative browser.

Using tv, or monitor? What cable?

  • #3

Viewsonic monitor using HDMI. Motherboard only has DVI, HDMI and a Display Port. I’m only using the onboard graphics using HDMI at the moment because connecting the HDMI into the back of the GPU doesn’t seem to work at the moment.

Thugginator

  • #4

According to my research, it looks like just plugging the HDMI into the GPU should allow your pc to boot.
I also found this:
«Wow… I just had an «are you serious?!» moment.

I had a sinking suspicion that the A6 code was really Ab (AB), which means the BIOS is waiting for my input. The real issue was my freaking monitor not displaying the BIOS screen properly. I’m using an old HP CRT through the VGA. I found that if you have the monitor plugged into the Mobo BEFORE powering on, the monitor displays a blank blue screen. I had to actually turn the Mobo on first, let it POST, and THEN plug the VGA cable in. The monitor then displayed the BIOS instead of just blue emptiness. So everything seems good now. Man, I was really worried too…»
Good luck.

I just bought a asrock z68 extreme3 gen3 motherboard from newegg. When I try to start the computer, everything seems to work fine except the code A6 appears. I can’t even get it to post.

Does anybody have any idea what that means? This is my first gaming pc build and I could really use the help.

A6 stands for SCSI Detect.
A0-A3 are IDE.
A4-A7 are SCSI.
What you can do in the BIOS is to disable SCSI detection some where in the Storage section…. if that is available or possible.

Agree with nikorr; I also have a new build with an asrock z68 and experienced the same debug code. After installing Win7, it went away.

But when I did the external build nothing came on the monitor. It didn’t post or anything, but it didn’t have the cd drive or hd or ssd hooked on to it. But if I hook those up to the motherboard and just install Win 7 it should work again?

I’ll take everybody’s advice and try to install Win 7. Thanks!

Yes, it will work, A6 is not en Error code, it is telling you what the mother board is doing at that instance of time.
In your case, it is detecting SCSI devices connected to the mobo at that time.

After I install Windows, and get my new monitor, and hook it up to my new video card, will it automatically detect the new video card…?

Using tv, or monitor? What cable?

Viewsonic monitor using HDMI. Motherboard only has DVI, HDMI and a Display Port. I’m only using the onboard graphics using HDMI at the moment because connecting the HDMI into the back of the GPU doesn’t seem to work at the moment.

Man, I was really worried too…»
Good luck.

Intel I5 4690K uses Memory Types DDR3-1333/1600, not DDR3 1066.

Hello Nice Folks 😉

I Have the following problem that i tried to solve for a few days now.

First of all my specs:

MoBo: MSI MEG X570S ACE MAX (MS-7D50)
CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5950X
GPU: ASUS RTX 3090 EKWB
RAM: 4x 8GB DDR4-3603 / PC4-28800 DDR4 SDRAM UDIMM
OS: Windows 10 Version 21H2 (19044, 1566)

After a windows clean install i cant acess my Bios anymore. I can normally boot in to windows and everything works fine but when i smash the «del» key to enter bios during startup the MoBo shows «Progress Code A6 (SCSI Detect)» and nothing happens anymore (Black screen). When i restart by shutting down my PC everything works fine.
During Startup the MoBo Shows the Progress Code 64 (CPU DXE Initialization (CPU Module specific) or the Progress Code 9C (USB Detect) but it lets me boot to Windows and again everything works fine.

I really have no clue how to solve this, here is a list of things i tried without being successful:

  • clear CMOS
  • Update all drivers (Chipset, GPU, Audio, Ethernet, …)
  • Uninstall and Reinstall USB-Devices (now i dont get the 9C Progress Code anymore)
  • check if everything is plugged in well and correctly on my MoBo
  • unplugged and changed Keyboard / Mouse
  • Access BIOS from Windows UEFI Firmware Settings (Windows advanced Startup)
  • System Restore

As i said, before the W10 clean Install everything worked fine (BIOS and OS) but after the clean install i cant access the BIOS anymore but Windows works just fine.
Would love some help because i cant set my custom Fan curve and im running hot over here .

Thank you very much for all the Answers 😄

Cheers

try clearing CMOS through jumper (clear cmos pins)
if that doesnt help, download latest bios from mainboard download page, even if you have same version, it wont matter
extract bios image from zip file and place it on USB stick, you should be able to enter bios flash mode with ctrl+F5 key even without entering bios (when PC powers up), reflash bios with freshly downloaded bios image
