  • Samsung Magician failed to authenticate my SSD. What should I do?

Please check the status of your internet connection and try again after rebooting your PC. Samsung Magician needs access to the internet to authenticate the SSD as a Samsung SSD. If the problem persists, please contact a Samsung-authorized service center.

  • When I measured my device’s performance using Samsung Magician, it is slower than the specification. What should I do?

    1. If you have a SATA SSD, make sure that it is correctly connected to a SATA3 port. You can check this via the Interface menu on the Magician Home screen.

    2. If you have an NVMe SSD, check whether both the NVMe Interface and PCIe® 3.0, x4 Lane are supported and correctly connected. You can check this via the Interface menu on the Magician Home screen.

    3. With some mainboards, a NVMe SSD connected to a PCle slot tends to perform better than when connected to an M.2 slot. We recommend you to connect NVMe SSDs to PCIe® slots.

    4. When the temperature of the system is high, the measured speed may be slow. This is only a temporary phenomenon caused by your Samsung SSD’s Dynamic Thermal Guard feature, which is provided with Samsung SSD’s firmware and may be engaged to protect the Samsung SSD in some systems with poor thermal management capabilities.

    5. If you are running a program that may affect system performance, please close the program and measure speed again.

    6. Change the Power Management option to High Performance and measure speed again.

    7. Performance results may vary depending on measurement conditions including, without limitation, the foregoing cases numbered from 1 to 6.

Looks like the source drive is faulty. You should backup/copy important files and freshly install windows on the SSD. Cloning won´t work with a defective source drive.

eventually you will need some free space on your HDD

First you need to list your hardware specs and what program you are using to clone the drive. Did you make sure both drives are seen in the system? Does the original drive have any issues or are you just swapping it out for a faster disk?

«Hi, I am trying to clone a Samsung SSD with SDM, but the Samsung Data Migration stuck at 0%. I have a 250GB Samsung 850 EVO and want to clone it to a 2TB Samsung 870 EVO.»

«I tried changing the SATA cable, turned off device encryption, and ran a health check on both disks. But nothing seems to be working and the Samsung Data Migration stuck at 0. How long should I wait before restarting the process? It’s stuck on 0 for 40 minutes and the transfer speed is 0? What should I do now to solve the issue?»    — post from Reddit

Samsung designed the Samsung Data Migration tool to transfer data from your current storage device to a new Samsung SSD quickly and efficiently. The software is only for Samsung SSDs. Many people use SDM to clone hard drives to SSDs, but sometimes during the cloning, you may encounter Samsung Data Migration stuck at 0 or 99 or not working error.

There are a few reasons why the SDM may act up, but we cannot exactly point out why Samsung data migration not working. But, here are some possible causes for the error:

  • Issues with the SATA port or SATA-to-USB cables.
  • Insufficient storage on the target SSD/ hard drive.
  • An outdated Samsung Data Migration cloning tool.
  • While transferring corrupt partitions or large files to SSD.
  • Trying to transfer data out of a failed drive itself may cause the SDM to act up.

How to Fix Samsung Data Migration Stuck at 0 Error — 5 Solutions

The post lists a total of 5 practical solutions to fix the Samsung Data Migration stuck at 0 and get the data transfer back on.

Important Tip: If you are facing issues like Samsung Data Migration stuck at 0 or any other issues involving data, while doing fixes, you will be at risk of data loss. If you wish to keep your data safe, you have to use a data backup tool like EaseUS Todo Backup to safeguard your data in all types of emergencies.

A quick guide to the 5 solutions

  • Check Your Cable Connections
  • Run the Check Disk Tool
  • Check the Target Disk Storage Space
  • Disable Device Encryption
  • Update Samsung Data Migration

(1) Check Your Cable Connections

If there are issues with your SATA cable or the SATA to USB connection is not done properly, the Samsung Data Migration stuck at 0 may occur. Make sure you take care of the cables and connection. Take a minute to check if the cables are in good condition and properly connected.

check the sata/usb cable

Start with verifying if the SATA/USB cables are properly connected, and check if the problem resolves. If the issue is still there, try using another port with the SATA cable or get another SATA/USB cable to transfer your data from the drive to the Samsung SSD.

(2) Run the Check Disk Tool

Sometimes a bad sector or a wrong partition itself on your source or target disk can cause Samsung Data Migration stuck at 0. To find out, if there’s any issue with the drives, you can run the Check Disk utility on your Windows using the chkdsk command. This hardly takes a few seconds to scan the drives. Follow the instruction below to do so:

Step 1: Make sure your Samsung SSD is connected to your system while running the chkdsk tool.

Step 2: Search for the Command Prompt application and Run it in Administrator mode.

Step 3: Enter the following command and press Enter. Later, follow the prompts on the window to complete the check-up.

chkdsk X:  ( X is the letter of the drive or partition, you want to check).

run the check disk tool

If there is a bad sector or anything on the drive, you can see it on the command prompt. In such a case, you can back up your data and later try transferring your data.

(3) Check the Target Disk Storage Space

If the target disk space is less than the source disk it is impossible to transfer data. So, if you are trying to clone a hard drive to an SSD with less storage, it causes issues like Samsung Data Migration stuck at 0 or 99.

To avoid any such errors, check your target disk storage space before initiating the process.  It is recommended that you use a target disk whose storage space is at least 25% more than the source disk. Prefer buying a suitable disk based on your requirements.

(4) Disable Device Encryption

When the Windows OS detects an external drive, it may use the device encryption feature to restrict it from reading the contents of the hard drive by making it unreadable. In such cases, even when the SDM detects the SSD, the data transfer halts at 0. You can try disabling device encryption in just a few clicks and carry on the transfer process.

The instructions to disable device encryption:

Step 1: Click on the Windows key, search for Settings, and open it.

Step 2: Select Privacy & Security from the left pane and click on Device Encryption.

Samsung

ESET Online Scanner.
Удалить файл hiberfil.sys

Hi guys, I really need your help.
I have a computer (Windos 7) with a 60GB Kingston SSDNow, and want to upgrade to an 120GB Samsung 850 EVO, also, I have an old 80GB Samsung SpinMaster with the Libraries.

I tried using Samsung Data Migraton, but twice I’ve got the error message: «Failed to retrieve source information 205500(0322bc)».

I already did sfc /scannow and chkdsk /f in both disks, but still got this message.

I’m downloading Acronis right now and I’m planning to move System Reserved, C: (System) and the SpinMaster partitions to the 850 EVO (IS IT POSSIBLE?), also I can’t see the new SSD in Windows Explorer (probably ’cause it’s not allocated; I’ve already initialized it in disk manager).

PS: If it helps, it crashes in 81%.
PS2: Sorry for the poor English skills.

I used this program to do the same thing:

http://www.easeus.com/disk-copy/home-edition/

I heard bad things regarding the samsung program. I would say give it a try before you go too extreme.

Or simply open Windows Explorer and expand the computer to show the separate drives. Click on the drive in question and select «copy» and select the drive (and file name if you so desire) that you want it copied to then click OK.

You can’t do that with a boot drive. It will lack most importantly the MBR to make it work as a boot drive.

No you would not be able to copy the operating system that way. But any other files would copy. You would have to select the files. For example , selecting the uppermost file and hold the right mouse button down while dragging the pointer down to include the files you want.

Original statement:

Nothing in there speaks to consolidating multiple drives into one.
Move the OS from the 60GB to the new 120GB
The 80GB drive with Libraries can stay exactly as it is.

But whatever….and copy/paste of what is in the Libraries would happen long after the clone from the 60GB to the new 120GB. Which is what he is trying to do, and where the fail happens.

Do not do that with the Libraries on the 80GB drive.
That data you can simply copy over

However:
Given a 120GB SSD, I would leave those on the current drive for now. Evaluate the resulting space on the 120GB drive before you move the Libraries.

Just clone the entirety of the 60GB drive to the new 120GB drive.
See how that goes first.

No that wasn’t it at all. I had you pegged perfectly. I replied in black and white with the question that the OP actually asked. I’m just sorry that I got dragged into your BS. It wasn’t the best day for this forum. Plus I didn’t know that copying files was so uncouth. Imagine that. Plus the OP was already downloading cloning software without anyone’s advice.

But, you have a good day as well.
