Has anyone come across the sc364 error on a MPC4000 or similar where I’ve already replaced the black pcu, dev and dev tank and black toner pump and the error still comes up. when I replaced the black toner pump, it took about a day for the error to re appear. Before I replaced it, I let the machine go into the error state, then replaced the pump. once I powered it back on the machine came to ready where i then did about 40 black copies to see if I could get the machine to refault, which it didnt so I figured i had fixed it. Low and behold a day later, the code is back. Plan to go there and stick the vacumm cleaner on the end of the black toner pipe incase its blocked abit somewhere along the line. will also replace the IBT bealt unit incase as its done about 250k anyway

Re: sc364 on MPC4000
It likely shows up after about 200 pages when it runs a process control and fails. Did it throw this code before or after you replace the PCDU. Also I think there is an SP 1902-? to run when replacing the Drum for a condition adjustment or something, supposed to run it twice I think which I dont think I have even run that really, but if it had a density issue before you replaced the drum you may need to run it so it will adjust.

Re: sc364 on MPC4000
Got abit more of a handle on what its doing today. Basically the machine orginally came up with «add black toner» which the customer did and it still asked for toner even after there customer replaced it. Being that that the pcu had done its life, I orginally replaced the pcu and developer which got rid of it asking for toner. about a day later it came up with the sc364 error. Thinking it could be a faulty td sensor in the dev tank, i replaced the whole unit again(new pcu and dev tank). A day later it failed again. This time I replaced the black toner pump. It working for about a day again before failing..Heres what I found today..sc364 mean TD sensor vt low error. Orginally I thought this meant that not enough toner was being supplied to the dev tank.Wrong! It actually means it has to much..Now if I start doing solid black copies, the TD sensor voltage will start to rise towards 3Volts to when sooner of later the machine will shut down and ask for toner. As you expect the black copies start to grey off. You can open and shut the front cover and the add toner will go away. With the back cover off you can hear the toner motor dispencing etc. If you then do a force toner a few times and then check the TD sensor voltage and you will find that it has dropped, hence you know that all the toner supply mech is working. If you keep doing a force toner and drop the TD sensor voltage below .5Volts, the sc364 error with occur every 10 copies until it rises above .5 of a volt. So in theory, because the TD sensor is changing, you know that both the toner supply mech works and also the TD sensor works..So for some reason it doesnt know at what stage to start or stop adding toner..

Re: sc364 on MPC4000
You may want to start thinking about the BICU board.
I had a machine do something very similar to this and the only thing that resolved it was the BICU.
Do you have a machine that you can borrow a board for testing?

Ricoh printers are typically found in office environments because of their versatility and ability to handle heavy workloads at a fast rate. However, with such complex machines, errors are bound to happen. Ricoh has made the error code system as organized as possible, though it is strongly recommended to contact Ricoh Technical Support for proper diagnosis, and take the machine to a service center for the proper repair.
The most critical issue with Ricoh printers is a temperature problem (codes: SC 543 and SC 455). These errors should be given immediate attention, as bypassing this problem could result in a fire or some sort of irreparable damage.
The first batch consists of scanner-related issues. You can turn off the machine, unplug it from the wall and let it sit for a few minutes. The error may fix itself when you restart your device. If not, most scanner issues are hardware-related, which will require professional repair.
Code | Cause |
SC 101 | Exposure lamp error |
SC 107 | Lamp regulator malfunction |
SC 120-123 | Scanner home position error |
SC 124 | Encoder signal error |
SC 125-126 | Motor speed error |
SC 128 | Motor start error |
SC 129 | Motor control error |
SC 130 | Starting issue |
SC 142 | White level detection |
SC 150 | ROM mismatch |
SC 181-184 | Error within the CIS |
SC 191 | Bar code scanning error |
SC 193 | Image transfer error |
SC 198 | Memory card error |
The next group is related to the laser technology. Resetting the machine may fix the problem, but these are not issues you will want to try repairing yourself.
Code | Cause |
SC 201 | Motor problem |
SC 220 | Laser Sync Detect |
SC 240 | Power supply error |
SC 260 | Sensor error |
SC 285 | Line position error |
The list below is in reference to problems with image development. Once again, a cold start to reset the machine’s memory could do the trick. Otherwise, contact Technical Support or take the unit to a local repair shop.
Code | Cause |
SC 322 | Laser synchronization issue |
SC 325 | Magnification correction |
SC 328 | LD unit home position error |
SC 364 | Hard drive malfunction |

SC 403 | Transfer belt sensor error |
SC 405 | Transfer belt position incorrect |
SC 440 | Main motor lock |
SC 460-461 | Thermistor temperature issue |
Paper feeding and fusing issues are the cause of this next group of error codes. Many paper feed errors can be fixed by cleaning the rollers or clearing any paper jam. The fuser issues can sometimes be rectified by adjusting the fuser temperature settings (if applicable to your model).
Code | Cause |
SC 500 | Motor error |
SC 501-504 | Tray/drawer lift motor failure |
SC 506-507 | Feed motor lock |

SC 547 | Fuser temperature not increasing |
SC 548 | Fuser installation problem |
SC 551-557 | Error with pressure roller |
SC590 | Fusing fan motor malfunction |
SC 591 | Ricoh toner supply motor error |
SC 599 | Output tray motor error |
This is a list of communication errors. Contact Technical Support for these issues as you may need to replace one of these main components.
Code | Cause |
SC 600 | Main control board and operation panel |
SC 636 | BICU and paper feed control |
SC 696 | Engine board and finisher |
These are common error codes caused by peripherals. Check to ensure the peripherals are properly installed. A printer reset may solve the problem, but if not, you should seek the advice of a professional.

SC 818 | Software malfunction |
SC 819-820 | Firmware problem |
SC 855 | Wireless LAN card issue |
SC 857 | USB interface error |
SC 868 | SD card data incorrect |
SC 870 | Abnormal address book data on hard drive |
This list of Ricoh error codes should be helpful in self-diagnosing the problem, though keep in mind, only the most common codes are listed. Your manual may provide a more comprehensive list for your specific model. If these simple troubleshooting tips provided don’t resolve the issue, it is best to contact Technical Support for further help.
Ricoh photocopier/printers error codes can be divided into three levels (A, B,C). The “A” level codes have high risk and involve the fusing unit problems. The machine operation is disabled. Only a service engineer should reset and repair this error. The B level errors are caused by one or more specific units. The machine operates as usual, excluding the related units. The C level errors have no effect on machine operation except to display a warning on the control panel. Error levels can be checked in service manuals under “troubleshooting” section.
SC543, SC545 codes:
SC543, SC545 are most common errors in Ricoh products. These errors indicate a problem in fixing temperature or thermistor. It is strongly recommended to call an authorized technician to reset and fix this problem because defected parts must be replaced/repaired before reseting these errors otherwise it may result in fire or other damages.
