High On Life’s launch has been an interesting one. While the game didn’t click with the critics, it certainly did with the players. The game’s launch has been pretty strong on Steam and Xbox Gamepass. However, High On Life PC players are experiencing errors and issues with the game like the Fatal error, in-game crash, DirectX 12 error, UE4-oregon error, crash at startup, and more. The following are the errors that PC players report, along with their fixes and workarounds.
High On Life Fixes That’ll Help
High On Life is a first-person shooter with a lot of personality and humor. As I mentioned above, the game clicked with players, but not with the critics. There’s been a debate about the game itself. However, aside from the quality of the game itself, PC players are reporting errors and issues like Fatal error, in-game crash, DirectX 12 error, UE4-oregon error, crash at startup, and more. There are multiple reasons why these errors are occurring and here are the fixes.
DirectX 12 Error Fix

There is no option in the game menu to switch to DX11, so you have to force the game. Right-click the game in Steam Library > properties > General > type -dx11 under Launch Options and press Ok. Update/Reinstall GPU Driver
Update your GPU driver and do a clean installation. This will fix the Fatal Error crash.
Force DX11

Disable Overclock
If High On Life is still crashing with a Fatal error, then your GPU is why it’s happening. Either the GPU is overclocked or your GPU isn’t handling the game’s load very well. If the GPU is overclocked, revert to its default GPU clock. Often GPUs are factory overclocked. In that case, open Nvidia Control Panel > Help > Debug Mode. Enabling the Debug mode will force the GPU to use the reference clocks from Nvidia and will fix the Fatal error crash.

In case the GPU isn’t overclocked, try to lower the graphics settings. Alternatively, limit the game’s max FPS to fix the Fatal Error crash. Don’t input any random value here, the value you input should be 1/2/, 1/3rd, or 1/4th of your display’s refresh rate. Right-click the game in Steam library > Mange > browse local files. A new window will open with the game files. Right-click the game executable > properties > compatibility tab > check “Run this program in compatibility mode for” and select Windows 7. Apply these changes, and launch High On Life; it won’t crash at startup.
Disable Fullscreen Optimizations
By default, Fullscreen Optimizations are enabled for applications in Windows. This setting can cause games to crash at startup and that might be the case with High On Life. Right-click High On Life in Steam Library > Manage > Browse Local Files. A new explorer window will open with game files. Right-click the game executable > properties > Compatibility tab > check “Disable fullscreen optimizations”. Apply the changes, launch High On Life, and it won’t crash at startup.

Temporary files are stored and used by Windows for select functions or applications. As the name suggests, these files are temporary but can build up over time and can cause video games to crash. Press Win + R keys > type %temp% and press enter. A new window will open with some files. Delete all the files and folders. This will fix the High On Life crash at startup issue.
