Так же поменял накладку на педаль тормоза. Так как старая походу ещё помнит Сталина.
Теперь будем смотреть, поможет ли прокладочка)

Код ошибки P0446 звучит как «неисправность цепи управления воздушным клапаном системы улавливания паров топлива». Часто, в программах, работающих со сканером OBD-2, название может иметь английское написание «Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Control System Vent Control Circuit Malfunction».
Этот диагностический код неисправности (DTC) является общим кодом. Ошибка P0446 считается общим кодом, поскольку применяется ко всем маркам и моделям транспортных средств. Хотя конкретные этапы ремонта могут несколько отличаться в зависимости от модели.
Код указывает на то, что часть системы управления EVAP больше не функционирует должным образом. Система EVAP состоит из множества деталей, включая (но не ограничиваясь) крышку бака, топливопроводы, угольный баллон, воздушный клапан и другие.

Продувка канистры EVAP регулируется клапаном, который благодаря вакууму, создаваемому работой двигателя, позволяет втягивать пары топлива. Они поступают из топливного бака в двигатель для сжигания, а не выходят в атмосферу.
Если контроллер ЕСМ обнаруживает замыкание или обрыв в цепи управления, устанавливается код неисправности P0446. Также ошибка может выводиться если система EVAP не может достичь или поддерживать вакуум во время теста.
Симптомы неисправности
Основным симптомом появления ошибки P0446 для водителя является подсветка MIL (индикатор неисправности). Также его называют Check engine или просто «горит чек».
Также они могут проявляться как:
- Загорится контрольная лампа «Check engine» на панели управления (код будет записан в память ECM как неисправность).
- Если вентиляционный клапан EVAP застрял в открытом положении, вы можете почувствовать запах топлива.
- Небольшое снижения производительности двигателя.
- Незначительное повышение расхода топлива.
- В большинстве случаев вы не заметите никаких симптомов, кроме зажженной контрольной лампы (MIL).
Степень серьезности кода P0446 является средней. Автомобиль сможет продолжать движение, но возрастут вредные выбросы в атмосферу. Что на практике не позволит пройти проверку на токсичность.
Причины возникновения ошибки
Код P0446 может означать, что произошла одна или несколько следующих проблем:
- Внутреннее короткое замыкание или обрыв вентиляционного клапана.
- Обрыв в жгуте проводов.
- Закорочен или сломан разъем.
- Коррозия или сопротивление в разъеме.

- Разомкнута или короткозамкнута цепь подачи напряжения к выпускному клапану.
Как устранить или сбросить код неисправности P0446
Некоторые предлагаемые шаги для устранения неполадок и исправления кода ошибки P0446:
- Ремонт поврежденных линий EVAP.

Диагностика и решение проблем

Осмотрите электрические разъемы не предмет коррозии, штифты должны быть прямые и правильно установлены.
Убедитесь, что прокладка крышки бака находится в хорошем состоянии, а сама крышка правильно установлена . После этого очистите код P0446 и проведите тест драйв, чтобы посмотреть, вернется ли ошибка снова.
Если прокладка крышки бака, потрескавшаяся, раздавленная или повреждена иным образом, замените ее.
Убедитесь, что выпускной шланг, по которому свежий воздух попадает в канистру, не заблокирован, не засорен и не раздавлен. Если во время цикла продувки поступает недостаточно воздуха, это может вызвать срабатывание этого кода неисправности.
Проверка давления
С помощью вакуумного насоса отсоедините регулирующий клапан вентиляции от баллона с углем. Попытайтесь создать вакуум на клапане. Он должен удерживать вакуум не менее минуты, не падая. Используйте перемычку на 12 В., чтобы открыть клапан. Клапан должен открыться и немедленно сбросить весь вакуум. Повторите этот тест для клапана управления продувкой.
Если клапан не поддерживает вакуум в закрытом состоянии или не открывается при подаче напряжения, замените клапан.
Тестирование электрики
Проверьте сопротивление на вентиляционном регулирующем клапане. Большинство соленоидов клапана должны иметь сопротивление от 30 Ом до 40 Ом. Но некоторые новые клапаны с электронным управлением могут иметь диапазон от 2 Ом до 6 Ом.
Если сопротивление соответствует 0 Ом или более 10 кОм, замените клапан.

One of the most common trouble codes with the Pontiac Vibe is the P0446 code. This trouble code references a number that is given to you when you plug your Vibe into a OBDII scanner. P0446 Indicates that there is a fault in the evaporative emission control system. It often appears with other codes, such as P0420, P0441, or P0440.
P0446: Evaporative Emission Control System Vent Control Circuit Malfunction
P0446 is normally not an immediate threat to the drive-ability of your vehicle. Certainly anytime the service engine soon light is on, it’s good to deal with it as soon as possible though. It is often accompanied by P0442. See Pontiac Vibe P0442 OBDII Code for more. P0420 is another common trouble code that accompanies P0446.
P0446 code will typically not be accompanied by any noticeable symptoms. The service engine soon light will come on, but that is usually about it. You might (not very likely) notice a slight decrease in fuel economy. P0446 may also cause a slight gas smell. This is due to it being related to the system that deals with fuel vapors.
Pontiac Vibe P0446 Meaning
P0446 is a universal OBDII trouble code. This means that regardless of which make or model of vehicle, the code will mean the same thing (Vibe or not). The code technically stands for:
Evaporative Emission Control System Vent Control Circuit Malfunction
The EVAP system captures all fuel vapor from the fuel tank and sends them to the engines intake in order to be ignited in the normal combustion process. When the EVAP control system vent control circuit no longer responds to the ECU, it will throw the P0446 OBDII Code.
Vibe P0446 Trouble Code Causes
There are many things that can cause the P0446 trouble code to trigger in your Pontiac Vibe. Here are the most common problems that will throw the code:
- Vapor Canister Purge Valve– One of the most common causes of the P0446 code is the vapor canister purge valve.
- It’s really easy to replace. There are a few clips that you need to find and remove.
- Evap System Hose– The hose that carries the fuel vapor from the fuel tank to the intake manifold can begin to leak. This will cause the P0446 code. Look for either a tear or hole in it.
- Faulty Charcoal Canister– The charcoal canister is often the cause of P0446.
- Fuel Tank Sending Unit– It is possible for the fuel tank sending unit to go bad. This can mess with line pressure and throw the code.
- Fuel Cap– A bad fuel cap can cause the code to be thrown for sure. Often, you’ll get a message informing you that the fuel cap is off even when it is on. If you are getting that message, plus a P0446, it may save you a ton of time and money to replace the fuel cap and see if it goes away.
- Fuel Filler Neck– There is often a gasket where the fuel filler neck connects with the gas tank. This gasket can dry out, especially with vehicles that spend their time in dry climates. When it dries out, the fuel tank can’t hold pressure anymore.
P0446 Diagnosis- Pontiac Vibe
A mechanic has a wide range of instruments at his disposal to diagnose what would be causing the P0446 in your Pontiac Vibe. Here are the most common things that are done to diagnose the code:
- The mechanic will typically check to see if there are any other trouble codes. The more trouble codes there are, the easier it can be to diagnose a problem. That’s because when they appear together in certain combinations, there will often only be only a few conditions that will throw any combination of codes at one time.
- After ascertaining what trouble codes appear with the P0446, the mechanic will typically inspect the EVAP system. This includes the purge valve, line, and canister.
- The mechanic will inspect the gas cap to make sure that it can handle pressure. If you are getting a warning that your gas cap is off, even when it’s on, replacing it will more than likely clear this code.
- The fuel tank pressure will be checked and monitored.
- After for the checks and fixes listed above, the mechanic will perform two tests:
- A smoke test, and they’ll use a scan tool to confirm that the EVAP solenoids and valves are operating properly.
Most Common P0446 Fixes
Here are the most common Vibe P0446 fixes:
- Gas cap replacement
- EVAP line replacement
- Replace charcoal canister
- Replace the fuel tank
Of all the items listed above, it would be wise to start with the gas cap and work your way to the fuel tank, since the gas cap is far and away the easiest and least expensive items to replace on here.

2003 Vibe AWD: CEL P0446 Check Engine Light! SOLVED!
My 2003 Vibe AWD has two CEL codes which are P0446 (Evaporative Emission Control System Vent Control Circuit Malfunction) + P0446P (Yes the same code with a P at the end :-s ). I have a code reader and I have erased the code a couple times. It keeps showing up. Sometimes the P0446 code takes a week or two to show up and even longer. Now is showing up even 3-5 days later. I also noticed that my fuel gauge stays on full for longer than expected even when driving many miles. After the fuel gauge finally drops a little, the P0446 code tends to trigger. The P0446 code shows up most of the times when I first start up my Vibe in the morning to go to work.
I checked the hoses around the engine to see if there were any leaks but I found nothing. I also double checked the gas tank cap and it seems tied. I understand that this code refers to the vapor canister. However, I wanted to see if there is anything in particular that I have to look for based on your experience. Any help is greatly appreciated!

I’ve been throwing a P0446 for a while now. I bought a replacement gas cap, but that didn’t solve the problem. I looked at the canister in a half hearted manner, wasn’t obvious how to solve the hose/electrical connectors so I gave up. I need to give a more earnest attempt to check out the VSV tinman999 mentioned in that other thread
I saw forums.genvibe.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=41115 so at the end of the month I’ll try a long drive with the OEM cap from my son’s trix, just to be sure and fully eliminate the cap as a factor.

I read the two posts that you referred. I noticed that both of them pointed to the fuel tank cap. You have a point there. Now that you mentioned it, when I tie up the fuel tank cap, the CEL takes longer to show up or not even show until the next fuel fill. It makes a lot of sense to try to change the fuel cap before anything. I found that the ACDelco GT287 one is meant for 2006-2010 Vibe and the ACDelco GT273 is meant for 2005 Vibe. Which AC Delco fuel cap would fit my 2003 Vibe? I also noticed that there come different fuel tank caps for AWD and FWD, do they? Would the ACDelco for 2003 Trix fuel cap fit my 2003 Vibe with the correct standards not to CEL??

Hello guys! After getting tired of seeing my P0446 CEL coming on and being turned off by my scanner, I decided to check under my Vibe. I checked the canister which is located right in front of the rear right hand tire (the FWD Vibe vapor canister is located in the front of the rear tire but at the LEFT side). I noticed that the vent control solenoid was really rusted. I applied 12v to it and I noticed that this valve was stuck opened.

I noticed online that many people take this valve apart and they fix it themselves.

As the link explained, the little cylinder inside of this valve was stuck. I pulled out using a long metal self screwing screw and took off all the rust on it. After doing so, the little cylinder inside of this valve was able to move freely. I put everything back together. I reset the annoying P0446 and I am now ready to see if the CEL problem is finally solved. I will definitely keep you posted.

I have driven my Vibe for about 200 miles already. I checked the Vibe with my scanner and everything is ready on the Vibe’s ECM (Misfire, Catalytic, O2 sensors, etc) except for the evaporator. I will keep driving it for a couple more days to see if the Vibe completes the driving cycles. I am a little worry because the Evap is what I have been working on. Again, I will keep you posted!

Hi guys! I am very happy to report to you that my P0446 CEL was cleared and my Vibe is once again ready for inspection! Thanks to the vapor canister pressure valve cleaning! I hope that this thread can help somebody else with this annoying CEL. Thanks guy for all your help!

Hello there! I am glad to have helped you. There is only one screw holding the valve to the canister. So you actually do not need to remove the entire canister to remove the valve. There are many hoses at the canister and you would not want to confuse them not to get other related CEL codes. Even with the valve, there is an inlet and outlet hose. You can not confuse them either (You may trigger other codes as well). So be careful when removing those hoses from the canister. Take pictures before removing any hoses if necessary. After driving more than 2K miles and after many fuel tanks later, the check engine light is still off. The Vibe is positive to pass inspection proven by the scanner. This procedure really solved my P0446 problem. Good luck to you! Please keep us posted!

I was able to reach it with a long screw driver but it was so badly rusted that nothing was doing. I am still not sure what type of screw it is — looked like a small Robertson. Time for plan B.
Removing the evap. canister — I removed the 3 bolts (12mm) holding the canister to the underside of the car and supported it on a block of wood while I worked on getting the various hoses and connectors off. There were 5 in total running back to the car. I got 4 of them. Ultimately I was foiled by one connector just behind the largest one. I’ll try to post a photo with an arrow to the part in question (it’s the Sienna image from the punksteamworks article but is very similar).

I worked on it for more than an hour, but no luck. Because the part it connects to is plastic, I was worried about breaking that off. Cursing didn’t help but felt good. I gave up and put everything back in 10 minutes (I did take photos and made a few marks to make sure I got the hoses connected correctly). As soon as I went for a drive, the MIL came back on and my code reader gave me two codes: P0442 and P0456. Probably from having had the canister off.
My next move is probably to take the car in to the shop and have them inspect the vapor pressure valve. Sure to cost me some $$…frustrating because this wasn’t that hard of a job. If you can recall how you got that specific connector off, I am all ears. I’d be willing to give it one more shot. Thanks again!
Do not give up!! I hope that you are not confusing the valve. Check the picture below:

You can remove the valve using a screw driver. You do not have to remove the whole canister. If you cannot remove the screw because it is probably too rusty, I will suggest you to push the valve back and forward to break off the rusty metal plate that holds the valve to the canister (you can always place it back using some tie rods). Again, do not give up! After you take the valve off the canister, the rest of the procedure is a piece of cake

So I have had this same check engine light and code on my vibe for a couple years now. Changed the gas cap and some of the under hood Evap system hoses. And now after finding this thread I whent looking for the valve and I can’t find a purge valve on or near the Evap canister. It is a 2006 base model. Any help would be appreciated.

Good day. Yes, I realize this post is ancient. But I used it to troubleshoot P0446 in my 03 Vibe. The solid CEL came on about 3 weeks ago, I went to Advance Auto, they pulled the code and said it’s related to the emission system and the likely candidate is the gas cap. But first try Vaseline on the gas cap gasket. I tried the Vaseline then purchased a new cap with no success, then jumped on to genvibe for help and found this thread the most related and detailed. Reading all the comments I started with the canister solenoid valve, removed the electrical connector, applied 9V to the terminals, but did not hear the solenoid actuate (someone said you can hear it click). As corroded as the valve was I decided to try a new valve, I used the link to ebay and found one for $53 delivered. I received an Intermotor CVS40. To slightly elevate the rear end I drove onto three 2×4’s, swapped out the solenoid (I broke the old solenoid off the metal frame by bending, the screw was not coming out), reset the CEL using my neighbor’s Oxgord MS300 reader, and all seems well now. Before I installed the new solenoid I applied 9V to the terminals and oh yes you can hear it click. $59 and the problem is solved, and I have an extra gas cap to boot!
I also recently replaced the HVAC system fan, another project that genvibe helped with. Was straightforward and relatively easy.
My 03 Vibe is now at 154.5K.

SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
This DTC tests the Evaporative Emission (EVAP) System for a restricted or blocked EVAP vent path. The control module commands the
EVAP canister purge solenoid valve Open and the EVAP canister vent solenoid valve Closed. This allows vacuum to be applied to the EVAP
system. Once a calibrated vacuum level has been reached, the control module commands the EVAP canister purge solenoid valve Closed and
the EVAP canister vent solenoid valve Open. The control module monitors the fuel tank pressure (FTP) sensor for a decrease in vacuum. If the
vacuum does not decrease to near 0 inches H2O in a calibrated time, this DTC sets.
The table illustrates the relationship between the ON and OFF states, and the Open or Closed states of the EVAP canister purge and vent
solenoid valves.

CONDITIONS FOR RUNNING THE DTC
— DTCs P0106, P0107, P0108, P0112, P0113, P0116, P0117, P0118, P0120, P0121, P0122, P0123, P0131, P0132, P0133, P0134, P0135,
P0136, P0137, P0138, P0140, P0141, P0151, P0152, P0153, P0154, P0155, P0156, P0157, P0158, P0160, P0161, P0220, P0442, P0443,
P0449, P0451, P0452, P0453, P0454, P0455, P0464, P0502, P0503, P1111, P1112, P1114, P1115, P1121, P1122, P1125, P2135 are not set.
— The ignition voltage is between 10-18 volts.
— The barometric pressure (BARO) is greater than 75 kPa.
— The fuel level is between 15-85 percent.
— The engine coolant temperature (ECT) is between 4-30°C (39-86°F).
— The intake air temperature (IAT) is between 4-30°C (39-86°F).
— The start up ECT and IAT are within 9°C (16°F) of each other.
— DTC P0446 runs once per cold start when the above conditions are met.
CONDITIONS FOR SETTING THE DTC
— The fuel tank pressure sensor is less than -12 inches H2O.
— The above condition is present for more than 5 seconds.
ACTION TAKEN WHEN THE DTC SETS
— The control module illuminates the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) on the second consecutive ignition cycle that the diagnostic runs and
fails.
— The control module records the operating conditions at the time the diagnostic fails. The first time the diagnostic fails, the control module
stores this information in the Failure Records. If the diagnostic reports a failure on the second consecutive ignition cycle, the control module
records the operating conditions at the time of the failure. The control module writes the operating conditions to the Freeze Frame and
updates the Failure Records.
CONDITIONS FOR CLEARING THE MIL/DTC
— The control module turns OFF the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) after 3 consecutive ignition cycles that the diagnostic runs and does
not fail.
— A current DTC, Last Test Failed, clears when the diagnostic runs and passes.
— A history DTC clears after 40 consecutive warm-up cycles, if no failures are reported by this or any other emission related diagnostic.
— Clear the MIL and the DTC with a scan tool.
DIAGNOSTIC AIDS
— When using the Evaporative Emission System Tester (EEST) to apply pressure, you can regulate the amount of pressure by activating the
remote switch ON and OFF while observing pressure in the EVAP system using a scan tool. DO NOT use more than 5 inches H2O. More
than 5 inches H2O applied to the EVAP system can cause the canister vent solenoid valve to temporarily remain in the closed position,
which could lead to misdiagnosis in this procedure.
— An intermittent condition could be caused by a damaged EVAP vent housing, a temporary blockage at the EVAP canister vent solenoid
valve inlet, or a pinched vent hose. A blockage in the vent system will also cause a poor fuel fill problem.
— For intermittent conditions, refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections.
— An EVAP canister, vent hose, or vent solenoid valve that has restricted flow may cause this DTC to set. Using a purge solenoid valve
command with a scan tool will allow vacuum to be applied to the system instead of pressure. With the EVAP canister vent solenoid valve
open and the EVAP canister purge solenoid valve commanded to 100 percent, vacuum should not increase to more than 9 inches H2O.

Что означает код ошибки P0446?
Расшифровка кода ошибки P0446 означает неисправность в цепи клапана вентиляции системы улавливания паров бензина (EVAP).

Do you notice a loud hissing when you take off the fuel cap? If so, that indicates that the vent control valve is stuck shut.
It’s important to note that the exact order of diagnosis may vary depending on your Vibe’s model year and engine/transmission options.
Common P0446 Fixes
Here are the most common Vibe P0446 fixes:
- Gas cap replacement
- EVAP line replacement
- Replace charcoal canister
- Replace the fuel tank
- Replace the vent control valve
Of all the items listed above, it would be wise to start with the gas cap and work your way to the fuel tank since the gas cap is far and away the easiest and least expensive item to replace on the list.

Is it safe to drive with P0446?
It is safe to drive your Vibe with error code P0446. The vent control valve does not affect how your car’s engine runs.
However, like any OBD II code, you shouldn’t ignore the problem and repair your Vibe as soon as possible.
Where is the vent control valve located on the Pontiac Vibe?
The vent control valve can be anywhere close to the charcoal canister, depending on the model year and options chosen when built.
It’s easy to find. There will be a tube going from the gas tank to the charcoal canister. The charcoal canister will have two tubes exiting it One tube leading to the engine and one going back to the gas tank. The vent control valve will be next to these tubes on the charcoal canister.
What is the most expensive item to replace on this list?
The fuel tank is the most expensive item you would have to replace to repair error code P0446. But, it’s rarely the cause of P0446 in the Pontiac Vibe.
Conclusion

2003 Vibe AWD: CEL P0446 Check Engine Light! SOLVED!
My 2003 Vibe AWD has two CEL codes which are P0446 (Evaporative Emission Control System Vent Control Circuit Malfunction) + P0446P (Yes the same code with a P at the end :-s ). I have a code reader and I have erased the code a couple times. It keeps showing up. Sometimes the P0446 code takes a week or two to show up and even longer. Now is showing up even 3-5 days later. I also noticed that my fuel gauge stays on full for longer than expected even when driving many miles. After the fuel gauge finally drops a little, the P0446 code tends to trigger. The P0446 code shows up most of the times when I first start up my Vibe in the morning to go to work.
I checked the hoses around the engine to see if there were any leaks but I found nothing. I also double checked the gas tank cap and it seems tied. I understand that this code refers to the vapor canister. However, I wanted to see if there is anything in particular that I have to look for based on your experience. Any help is greatly appreciated!

I’ve been throwing a P0446 for a while now. I bought a replacement gas cap, but that didn’t solve the problem. I looked at the canister in a half hearted manner, wasn’t obvious how to solve the hose/electrical connectors so I gave up. I need to give a more earnest attempt to check out the VSV tinman999 mentioned in that other thread
I saw forums.genvibe.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=41115 so at the end of the month I’ll try a long drive with the OEM cap from my son’s trix, just to be sure and fully eliminate the cap as a factor.

I read the two posts that you referred. I noticed that both of them pointed to the fuel tank cap. You have a point there. Now that you mentioned it, when I tie up the fuel tank cap, the CEL takes longer to show up or not even show until the next fuel fill. It makes a lot of sense to try to change the fuel cap before anything. I found that the ACDelco GT287 one is meant for 2006-2010 Vibe and the ACDelco GT273 is meant for 2005 Vibe. Which AC Delco fuel cap would fit my 2003 Vibe? I also noticed that there come different fuel tank caps for AWD and FWD, do they? Would the ACDelco for 2003 Trix fuel cap fit my 2003 Vibe with the correct standards not to CEL??

Hello guys! After getting tired of seeing my P0446 CEL coming on and being turned off by my scanner, I decided to check under my Vibe. I checked the canister which is located right in front of the rear right hand tire (the FWD Vibe vapor canister is located in the front of the rear tire but at the LEFT side). I noticed that the vent control solenoid was really rusted. I applied 12v to it and I noticed that this valve was stuck opened.

I noticed online that many people take this valve apart and they fix it themselves.

Checking the following link: http://steampunkworkshop.com/toyota-sie … lve-repair» onclick=»window.open(this.href);return false; , I was able to take this pressure valve apart. As the link explained, the little cylinder inside of this valve was stuck. I pulled out using a long metal self screwing screw and took off all the rust on it. After doing so, the little cylinder inside of this valve was able to move freely. I put everything back together. I reset the annoying P0446 and I am now ready to see if the CEL problem is finally solved. I will definitely keep you posted.

I have driven my Vibe for about 200 miles already. I checked the Vibe with my scanner and everything is ready on the Vibe’s ECM (Misfire, Catalytic, O2 sensors, etc) except for the evaporator. I will keep driving it for a couple more days to see if the Vibe completes the driving cycles. I am a little worry because the Evap is what I have been working on. Again, I will keep you posted!

Hi guys! I am very happy to report to you that my P0446 CEL was cleared and my Vibe is once again ready for inspection! Thanks to the vapor canister pressure valve cleaning! I hope that this thread can help somebody else with this annoying CEL. Thanks guy for all your help!

Hello there! I am glad to have helped you. There is only one screw holding the valve to the canister. So you actually do not need to remove the entire canister to remove the valve. There are many hoses at the canister and you would not want to confuse them not to get other related CEL codes. Even with the valve, there is an inlet and outlet hose. You can not confuse them either (You may trigger other codes as well). So be careful when removing those hoses from the canister. Take pictures before removing any hoses if necessary. After driving more than 2K miles and after many fuel tanks later, the check engine light is still off. The Vibe is positive to pass inspection proven by the scanner. This procedure really solved my P0446 problem. Good luck to you! Please keep us posted!

Removing the evap. canister — I removed the 3 bolts (12mm) holding the canister to the underside of the car and supported it on a block of wood while I worked on getting the various hoses and connectors off. There were 5 in total running back to the car. I got 4 of them. Ultimately I was foiled by one connector just behind the largest one. I’ll try to post a photo with an arrow to the part in question (it’s the Sienna image from the punksteamworks article but is very similar).

I worked on it for more than an hour, but no luck. Because the part it connects to is plastic, I was worried about breaking that off. Cursing didn’t help but felt good. I gave up and put everything back in 10 minutes (I did take photos and made a few marks to make sure I got the hoses connected correctly). As soon as I went for a drive, the MIL came back on and my code reader gave me two codes: P0442 and P0456. Probably from having had the canister off.
My next move is probably to take the car in to the shop and have them inspect the vapor pressure valve. Sure to cost me some $$…frustrating because this wasn’t that hard of a job. If you can recall how you got that specific connector off, I am all ears. I’d be willing to give it one more shot. Thanks again!

You can remove the valve using a screw driver. You do not have to remove the whole canister. If you cannot remove the screw because it is probably too rusty, I will suggest you to push the valve back and forward to break off the rusty metal plate that holds the valve to the canister (you can always place it back using some tie rods). Again, do not give up! After you take the valve off the canister, the rest of the procedure is a piece of cake

So I have had this same check engine light and code on my vibe for a couple years now. Changed the gas cap and some of the under hood Evap system hoses. And now after finding this thread I whent looking for the valve and I can’t find a purge valve on or near the Evap canister. It is a 2006 base model. Any help would be appreciated.

Good day. Yes, I realize this post is ancient. But I used it to troubleshoot P0446 in my 03 Vibe. The solid CEL came on about 3 weeks ago, I went to Advance Auto, they pulled the code and said it’s related to the emission system and the likely candidate is the gas cap. But first try Vaseline on the gas cap gasket. I tried the Vaseline then purchased a new cap with no success, then jumped on to genvibe for help and found this thread the most related and detailed. Reading all the comments I started with the canister solenoid valve, removed the electrical connector, applied 9V to the terminals, but did not hear the solenoid actuate (someone said you can hear it click). As corroded as the valve was I decided to try a new valve, I used the link to ebay and found one for $53 delivered. I received an Intermotor CVS40. To slightly elevate the rear end I drove onto three 2×4’s, swapped out the solenoid (I broke the old solenoid off the metal frame by bending, the screw was not coming out), reset the CEL using my neighbor’s Oxgord MS300 reader, and all seems well now. Before I installed the new solenoid I applied 9V to the terminals and oh yes you can hear it click. $59 and the problem is solved, and I have an extra gas cap to boot!
I also recently replaced the HVAC system fan, another project that genvibe helped with. Was straightforward and relatively easy.
My 03 Vibe is now at 154.5K.

Иногда выскакивает ошибка p0446. Покурив форумы решил начать с малого — замены прокладки.
Так же поменял накладку на педаль тормоза. Так как старая походу ещё помнит Сталина.
Теперь будем смотреть, поможет ли прокладочка)

Вопрос по 0446. Если все же замена уплотнительного кольца не поможет, что делать дальше?
Клапан на адсорбере смотреть. Он частый виновник данной проблемы.
Есть возможность подробнее рассказать где, что и почему?))

Here’s a re-count of my experience trying to remove the vapor pressure valve. I got under the car — I’m only 160lbs. so I was able to slide under without lifting it up and placing the car on jack stands. It was a bit tight but manageable. Only downside was the dirt raining down on my face. I saw the screw that you are talking about on the back of the valve. I was able to reach it with a long screw driver but it was so badly rusted that nothing was doing. I am still not sure what type of screw it is — looked like a small Robertson. Time for plan B.
Removing the evap. canister — I removed the 3 bolts (12mm) holding the canister to the underside of the car and supported it on a block of wood while I worked on getting the various hoses and connectors off. There were 5 in total running back to the car. I got 4 of them. Ultimately I was foiled by one connector just behind the largest one. I’ll try to post a photo with an arrow to the part in question (it’s the Sienna image from the punksteamworks article but is very similar).

I worked on it for more than an hour, but no luck. Because the part it connects to is plastic, I was worried about breaking that off. Cursing didn’t help but felt good. I gave up and put everything back in 10 minutes (I did take photos and made a few marks to make sure I got the hoses connected correctly). As soon as I went for a drive, the MIL came back on and my code reader gave me two codes: P0442 and P0456. Probably from having had the canister off.
My next move is probably to take the car in to the shop and have them inspect the vapor pressure valve. Sure to cost me some $$…frustrating because this wasn’t that hard of a job. If you can recall how you got that specific connector off, I am all ears. I’d be willing to give it one more shot. Thanks again!

You can remove the valve using a screw driver. You do not have to remove the whole canister. If you cannot remove the screw because it is probably too rusty, I will suggest you to push the valve back and forward to break off the rusty metal plate that holds the valve to the canister (you can always place it back using some tie rods). Again, do not give up! After you take the valve off the canister, the rest of the procedure is a piece of cake

So I have had this same check engine light and code on my vibe for a couple years now. Changed the gas cap and some of the under hood Evap system hoses. And now after finding this thread I whent looking for the valve and I can’t find a purge valve on or near the Evap canister. It is a 2006 base model. Any help would be appreciated.

Good day. Yes, I realize this post is ancient. But I used it to troubleshoot P0446 in my 03 Vibe. The solid CEL came on about 3 weeks ago, I went to Advance Auto, they pulled the code and said it’s related to the emission system and the likely candidate is the gas cap. But first try Vaseline on the gas cap gasket. I tried the Vaseline then purchased a new cap with no success, then jumped on to genvibe for help and found this thread the most related and detailed. Reading all the comments I started with the canister solenoid valve, removed the electrical connector, applied 9V to the terminals, but did not hear the solenoid actuate (someone said you can hear it click). As corroded as the valve was I decided to try a new valve, I used the link to ebay and found one for $53 delivered. I received an Intermotor CVS40. To slightly elevate the rear end I drove onto three 2×4’s, swapped out the solenoid (I broke the old solenoid off the metal frame by bending, the screw was not coming out), reset the CEL using my neighbor’s Oxgord MS300 reader, and all seems well now. Before I installed the new solenoid I applied 9V to the terminals and oh yes you can hear it click. $59 and the problem is solved, and I have an extra gas cap to boot!
I also recently replaced the HVAC system fan, another project that genvibe helped with. Was straightforward and relatively easy.
My 03 Vibe is now at 154.5K.

Что означает код ошибки P0446?
Расшифровка кода ошибки P0446 означает неисправность в цепи клапана вентиляции системы улавливания паров бензина (EVAP).
Система EVAP предотвращает выброс паров топлива в атмосферу. Пары из топливного бака поглощаются и накапливаются угольными гранулами в специальном контейнере — адсорбере.
