DTC P1590-P1592: ABS — ROUGH ROAD SIGNAL CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION
Description
When the vehicle travels across rough terrain, or on rough roads the ECM could falsely interpret suspension vibrations as a misfire and invoke engine misfire protocols and/or set a false DTC. The Self-Leveling and Anti-Lock Brake System (SLABS) ECU sends a rough road PWM signal to the ECM. Based on this rough road PWM signal, the ECM can suspend misfire detection for as long as the vehicle is travelling on a rough road.
Rough road signal input is measured at ECM 40-pin connector C0637 terminal No. 34 (Red/Green wire on Discovery; Yellow/Pink wire on Range Rover). The SLABS ECU rough road PWM signal varies in accordance with changing road conditions. The rough road PWM signal operates at a frequency of 2.10-2.56 Hz. ECM rough road control is based on specific changes to the PWM signal. If there is a rough road PWM signal failure the Hill Descent Control/Anti-Lock Braking System (HDC/ABS) warning light may be illuminated.
Diagnostic Aids
The rough road PWM signal can fail in the following ways:
Harness or connector damage.
SLABS wheel speed sensor failure.
If there is a rough road signal malfunction, the following DTCs may be set:
If DTC P1590 is set, there is an ABS rough road signal circuit malfunction. Hardware is okay, but the SLABS ECU is sending an error signal.
If DTC P1591 is set, there is a low ABS rough road signal circuit. Signal from SLABS ECU is shorted to ground.
If DTC P1592 is set, there is a high ABS rough road signal circuit. Signal from SLABS ECU shorted circuit to battery voltage.
Diagnosis & Repair
When ignition is turned on and during vehicle operation, ECM checks rough road signal circuits. If expected signal is not seen, ECM will store a DTC. Using an oscilloscope or Snap-On(R) PAC ensure SLABS ECU PWM signal indications are consistent with road conditions. See ROUGH ROAD PWM SIGNAL INDICATIONS table. If PWM signal is not as specified, check circuits for opens or shorts. Check for poor power and ground connections and/or loose wires at ECM. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Ensure ABS wheel speed sensors are operating properly. Repair as necessary. When DTC P1590-P1592 repairs are completed, perform REPAIR CONFIRMATION DRIVE CYCLE «A» .
For your code its most likely a wheel sensor or other ABS related issue, when on the scanner verify wheel speed signal

A week or two ago the 3 amigos rear their ugly heads.
I had a fair suspicion it was related to my brakes as they had been acting up for a bit.
They seemed to not be releasing properly for a start.
My own OBDII device indicated an error P1590 – Antilock brake system (ABS) rough road signal – error message from ABS control unit.
Further diagnostics using a friends’ Hawkeye (thanks LandyLuvver) indicated front right and rear right ABS sensor errors. So he reset the error and suggested I clean the sensors.
This is how its done.
Jack the car and place stands under the axle. Remove the front wheels.
Remove the outer part of the brake caliper by removing the 2 bolts holding it in. Place the caliper aside, but don’t let it dangle by the hoses!
Remove the inner part of the caliper by remove its 2 bolts. I found it easiest to lie on the floor under the the wheel hub and use a long extension on the socket, as it needs a bit of force.
Unscrew the little screw holding the brake disc to the hub. As you can see mine is in a sorry state. But by hammering a flat head screwdriver into it I managed to get it out.
Now the brake disc should come off with a little persuasion.
You now have access to the ABS sensor. Undo the sensor with an allan key.
Wipe the sensor clean. I used a bit of brake cleaner to clean it properly. Check the 0-ring where the sensor is seated. Make sure its clean and not perished.
This yellow plug is the connection for the sensor to the wiring loom. The RHS sensors connection is located under/near the steering column. Disconnect the plug and clean using electrical cleaner or brake cleaner. Now reassemble the brake disc, calipers etc. When putting the wheel nuts back coat the threads with a little copperslip so they are easly removed the next time.
This is the rear-assembly. I found it a bit easier to do than the front ones.
Done. Not a difficult job, but not much fun to do. All this for a silly sensor error!
– Update –
The error came back. I had it checked and its the front right wheel thats the culprit. I’ll need to get around to reconditioning the caliper.

Ошибки (коды ошибок) полученные от прибора, сканера требуют правильной интерпретации информации, дабы не тратить время и деньги на замену работающих элементов автомобиля.
Проблема зачастую кроется намного глубже чем кажется на первый взгляд. Это& вызвано теми обстоятельствами, что информационные сообщения содержат, как было выше сказано, косвенную информацию о нарушении работы системы.

Технические заметки: Код может указывать на наличие проблемы с системой ABS. Прежде чем заменять какие-либо детали, попробуйте сначала очистить код. Если код возвращается, необходимо проверить систему ABS с помощью сканера, который может считывать коды ABS.

Дня три назад во время неспешной езды на ровном месте загорелся чек, обороты упали, при нажатии на педаль обороты еле-еле, но набирались. Обороты не плавали, просто машина очень медленно разгонялась. Остановился, заглушил движок, стартанул заново — все по прежнему, горит чек, обороты еле поднимаются.
В OBD у меня постоянно включена вот такая приблуда, после француза не могу привыкнуть к обычному спидометру, люблю когда цифры впереди видны, чтобы взгляд от дороги не отрывать. Около месяца езжу с этим спидометром.
Так вот, я обратил внимание, что во время чека на этом цифровом спидометре почему-то перестала отображаться скорость, стоит все на нуле. Я вытащил эту штуку из разъема, вставил заново, все начало отображаться.
Ближе к вечеру обороты начали приходить в норму, машина начала слушаться педаль.
Утром завел авто, чек не горит, поехал, обороты в норме. Считал ошибку Торком, выдало Р1590. Записался к ОД. Приехал, два часа мурыжили меня, приглашают.
Мы, говорят все посмотрели, считали ошибку Р1799, типа какая-то фигня с АБС или тормозами, короче вот распечатка.
Я говорю, давайте мне какую-то бумажку, что я обратился, а вы посмотрели, нашли/не нашли что-то, заказ-наряд и т.п.
Мне в ответ, ничего не дадим, сделали диагностику бесплатно, поэтому хрен тебе. Я повозмущался, но так и ничего не выжал из дилера (Максимум в Питере). Сказали только, что если снова загорится, то приезжайте с горящим чеком, будем смотреть.
Короче почитав инфу на форуме я сделал заключение для себя, что виной всему устройства подключенные в OBD-разъем либо нештатные сигналки (не мой случай). Поезжу снова с цифровым спидометром, погляжу что будет дальше.
