Like any online multiplayer game, you’re going to encounter error codes while playing Overwatch 2 — it’s inevitable. From log-in issues to more widespread server issues, you never know when you’ll be hit with an oddball error code that means absolutely nothing to you. Obviously, Overwatch 2 has been hit with more issues than usual after a series of launch-day DDoS attacks that have caused servers to go awry and created sluggish queue times.
If you’ve been hit with an error message while trying to get into a game, it might be frustrating trying to figure out what’s wrong and how to fix it. We’ve taken a look at some of the most common error codes, checked in on what they mean, and explored solutions for each one. Unfortunately, the most common solutions are going to be restarting your game and hoping that something changes or waiting for larger server issues to be solved by Blizzard, but at least you’ll know what the problem is.

Common Overwatch 2 error codes
Below are some of the most common error codes that Overwatch 2 players will run into, along with links to official Blizzard recommendations on how to fix the issue.
- LC-202 – disconnected from game server
- LC-208 – unable to connect to Overwatch on console
- BN-054 – unable to log you in, please try again later

General tips for fixing errors
If you’re running into an error code, it’s probably a simple one. Here are a few quick steps you can take:
- Make sure the Overwatch 2 servers aren’t experiencing widespread problems. You can check the official Overwatch Twitter account or check the server status on a website like Downdector.
- Close Overwatch 2, restart your console or PC, then relaunch the game.
- Restart your internet router, and make sure you aren’t experiencing any local connectivity issues.
- Make sure your Battle Net account is set up properly.

Overwatch 2’s rocky post-launch saga continues as the game is suffering from a bug that randomly purchases skins from the in-game shop without permission from players while they’re using the chat.
As reported by Kotaku, some players pointed out the auto-purchasing bug to Blizzard after the game’s tumultuous launch on Tuesday. The issue appeared to gain more traction Thursday evening when Reddit user Dracyoshi made a post in the Overwatch subreddit detailing their experience of buying the Junker Queen skin without meaning to because they typed text chat in the Hero Gallery.

Error Code BN-043 appears to be a server connection related error code present in both the original Overwatch and Overwatch 2. Players have reported getting this error code when attempting to connect to the server while it was down for maintenance. It is also possible that this server connectivity issue can occur from local network connectivity issues, as well as server side problems.
All Known Bugs and Issues: How to Fix
Despite Blizzard’s scheduled maintenance finishing on October 8, 2022, there have since been numerous reports of players getting Error Code BN-043 while the servers were live. Players who encounter this problem found themselves unable to log in or play the game. Considering the amount of players encountering this issue and the plethora of other bugs and server problems currently ongoing, it would appear that as with LC-208 and BC-153 (2 other commonly occurring server related error codes), this is a server connection error.
Blizzard do not have Error Code BN-043 listed on their Blizzard’s help forum, where they list causes and resolutions for various error codes. However, based on their advice for other similar error codes, below is a checklist which may help resolve the issue:
Check your internet connection to see if your network connectivity is sufficient enough to play Overwatch 2. Also try restarting your router to see if that resolves the issue.
If you are encountering error codes while attempting to play Overwatch 2, It may be worth relaunching the game, as well as the battle.net launcher if restarting the router did not resolve the issue.
Try changing your Battle.net region to another server. This may cause some lag if you choose a region far from your location, but also may help resolve the issue.
To change your region, click on the globe icon next to the game version on your battle.net launcher.
Check if the server for Overwatch 2 is down with our Server Status Tracker, as that is often the cause of these error codes.
Server Status: Are the Servers Online?
For Error Code BC-153, Blizzard have stated that Parental Settings restricting chat/messages, as well as access to Overwatch 2 can sometimes cause this error code. In your console’s account/parental settings, make sure that chat/messages is set to on (you may need to get your parent’s permission for this).
Blizzard frequently tweet Overwatch 2 related announcements and updates on their PlayOverwatch channel. When there is a known bug that is affecting many players, they often address it here.
