Symptom
Error “Logon balancing error 88. Cannot connect to message server (rc=9)” popping up every time you logon to the SAP system.
Solution
• Check your SAP system is up and running.
• Ensure your workplace network connectivity is working fine. No network means no SAP connection!
• Check with your colleagues, are they able to login or only you just affected.
• Double check your SAPGUI connection parameter is correctly maintained ( Application Server, System Number, System ID or SAProuter (if configured)).
• If you just did changes on the SAPGUI. Please close the SAPGUI and open it again. Try to connect again. Else, restart your desktop/laptop and test the connection again.
• Go to C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc directory. Open your services file. Confirm that the entries is correctly configured. Make sure that the sapms xxxx/tcp is inside the services file. As example, sapmsPRD 3601/tcp, PRD is the SID, 36 is the port and 01 is the Central Instance number. Noted, if the entry is added at the end of the services file, please put a blank line after it.
logon failed
This error means that the client (SAP GUI) cannot reach the message server. The solution is typically in configuring the client ‘service’ file.
How do I open SAP GUI configuration?
Configuring SAP GUI for Windows
- Start SAP Logon.
- Select a connection and choose .
- Choose the Connection Properties…
- In the System Entry Properties dialog box, choose the Network tab.
- Select the Activate Secure Network Communication checkbox.
- Enter the SNC name.

Follow the following steps to start SAP from the start menu. Start >>> All programs >>> SAP Front End >>> SAP Logon. After selecting SAP Log on, the following Log on screen appears. Click on Log On option on the SAP Logon 720 to logon to SAP system.

Error “Logon balancing error 88. Cannot connect to message server (rc=9)” popping up every time you logon to the SAP system.
We already said that the main functioning of Message Server is load balancing. Now, you can easily understand about the error displaying above. This error may comes due to non availability of SAP Server i.e
- No Sify connectivity between Application and SAP Server or
- SAP Server may be down
- Message Server issue.
The above issue may be over come by checking the below
- Check your SAP system is up and running ( through TCS by support team / by raising tickets).
- Ensure your workplace network connectivity (i.e Sify Network) is working fine. No network means no SAP connection!. Hence, you should escalate the issue to NI Vendor M/s Sify Technologies for further action.
- Check with your colleagues in nearby offices, are they able to login or only you just affected.
- Double check your SAPGUI connection parameter is correctly maintained ( Application Server, System Number, System ID or SAProuter (if configured)) with the help of concern System Administrator.
- If you just did changes on the SAPGUI. Please close the SAPGUI and open it again. Try to connect again. Else, restart your desktop/laptop and test the connection again.
- While you check the SAPGUI parameter you may lose your configuration such as message server information became empty or partially configured. This problem may be fixed with the help of Logon file.( Please refer next topic which will be posted by Admin PoTools in www.potools.blogspot.com)
- Go to C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc directory. Open your services file. Confirm that the entries is correctly configured. This may be done during the first time installation by TCS or System Administrator, India Post. Noted, if the entry is added at the end of the services file, please put a blank line after it.

Да, порт доступен, причем эта проблема то появляется, то исчезает, причем когда она появляется недоступен message server, если пытаться создать новое соединение через логон группы, причем сервер пингуется. Возможна ли такая ситуация что центральная инстанция не успевает обработать запросы на распределение загрузки при коннекте пользователей?

Ну это наврядли, думаю стоит посмотреть лог message server. Да еще, желательно проверить при возникшей проблеме с хоста пользователя сказать telnet server_host message_server_port и посмотреть вернется чего либо или нет.

При детализации ошибок видим:
error: timeout occured
Точка работает через спутник, скорее всего по каким-то причинам падает пропускная канала.
