      Windows Server gives the following error in the event log:

      Source: SRMSVC
      Event ID: 8197

      Description:
      File Server Resource Manager Service error: Unexpected error.

      Error-specific details:
      Error: GetVolumeNameForVolumeMountPoint, 0x80070001, Incorrect function.

      Here’s what the internet says about fixing the GetVolumeNameForVolumeMountPoint, 0x80070001, Incorrect function error:

      You can fix it by running the following in an elevated command prompt:

      cd /d “%windir%\system32\wbem”
      mofcomp srm.mof
      net stop srmsvc
      net start srmsvc

      Also, the error is safe to ignore if you’re not seeing other symptoms (such as disconnecting storage pools). If you are getting disconnected storage pools, then you may have a hardware issue.

      The error may be caused by installing the FSRM role, then uninstalling it (leaving some files in tact), then reinstalling it. In which case, the following KB will help: KB555941

  • I have ran vssadmin list writers  and no errors reported.

    Issue : When Backteam triggers backup its getting failed and after checking the vss writers found system state writers are missing. I have restarted the CryptSVC service and VSS service issue got fixed, But the issue is happening on multiple servers with
    same OS (Windows 2012 r2).

    However i have already gone through above articles before posting my issue here. Also the error is different from above you mentioned articles.

    in my case below is the issue reported in the eventvwr:

    Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Unexpected error calling routine GetVolumeNameForVolumeMountPoint is now failing on the volume, winerror
    0x00000001. .  hr = 0x80070001, Incorrect function.

  • Hi there, 

    I have a physical server running 2012 R2  hosting two virtuals servers. These are both running on Server 2012 R2. On Server 1 I have 5 Luns which are presented from 3PAR and on the second server I have 5 Luns (Named and capacity the same as server1)
    however presented from EVA (Both servers with two Fiber channels attached via Hyper V). Now when I Shutdown server 1 all remains as is, however when I shutdown server two and start it back up i lose my Luns!. I went to event viewer and found this error:

    Error: GetVolumeNameForVolumeMountPoint, 0x80070001, Incorrect function

    Has anyone ever come across this?

    What’s the situation when the disk disappeared — it is listed in Disk Manager with no drive letter, listed as unknown volume or it just not listed?

    Also how can you manually get it back to work? With a command line?

    First please test to enable automount to see if it can help. 

    diskpart automount enable

Unable to add File Server Resource Manager Tools on Windows Server 2012 — Errors on restart and roll back install

  • Unable to install Windows Server 2012 Feature —  [Tools] File Server Resource Manager Tools.

    Installs, however when I restart the server error messages appears saying feature unable to install, windows reverting changes.

    In the Setup event logs have the following information message «Update FSRM-Infrastructure of package FSRM-All failed to be turned on. Status: 0x800f0922»

    Does anyone have any idea’s on why this Feature can not be installed ??

    Please test if it could be installed with PowerShell:

    install-windowsfeature -name fs-resource-manager -includemanagementtools

    If still failed, please have a try to remove and reinstall it with DISM like:

    DISM /online /remove-feature /featurename:

    Then

    DISM /online /enable-feature /featurename:
