Ошибка 129 storahci

I too have been having this issue, only with an EliteBook 850 G2, and SanDisk 256GB SSD.  The storage driver on the HP download page indicates it is for Intel, however my notebook seems to have a Marvell controller from the device hardware code, and so the Intel driver package will not install.  So Windows 8.1 is using the basic Standard SATA AHCI driver and the Microsoft Storage Spaces controller driver, and I get several 20-30 second freezes throughout the day.  Sometimes they happen back to back, just minutes apart.  Sometimes they go a couple of hours or longer between.  It will happen when I’m actively using the system, and it will happen overnight when I’m not doing anything on it.  I have Event Viewer always open with a filter looking for events 129 and 153, so I can see a history of when it happens.

I tried HP support but they were pretty useless; they just told me to run HDD diagnostics.  The drive is fine.  This issue is well-documented on many discussion boards and support forums.  Like you, none of the various suggestions have worked for me (power settings, timeout disable, the NoLPM registry setting, and on and on.  I’ve tried them all.

Some other strange items with this notebook (may or may not be related): when cold booting, sometimes the system will power itself right back off after the POST or even during the Windows 8.1 boot process.  Powering on again, it boots just fine.  Also after a cold or warm reboot, my USB mouse is not recognized (whether plugged into the dock or directly into the notebook).  I have to unplug and plug it back in again to get it to work.

I’m hoping that maybe the next BIOS upgrade will fix at least some of these issues, particularly the drive one.  Very frustrating, because this is otherwise a great system.

UPDATE (8/14/15): Just wanted to follow up with my «resolution» on this.  Never did get rid of the problem on Windows 8.1.  Tried Windows 10, happened with it as well.  Started over with Windows 7, and it’s rock solid.  No freezes or event IDs 129 or 153.

Seems to be some kind of issue with the drivers in Windows 8 and 10.  Since my system only used the generic MS drivers for the controller, I had no way to update them.

On a new install of Windows 10 Pro 1607, with a Crucial/Micron M500 SSD, the machine would frequently freeze for several seconds. This corresponded to dozens of storahci 129 warnings in the System event log:

storahci 1

With big thanks to this article [dead link:  http://www.nxhut.com/2015/01/storahci-id-129-reset-to-device.html], the solution was to enable visibility of a couple of arcane power settings and change them from HIPM to DIPM.

Enable Power Settings

In the registry, find HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\PowerSettings\0012ee47-9041-4b5d-9b77-535fba8b1442\

Under 0b2d69d7-a2a1-449c-9680-f91c70521c60, change the Attributes key value from 1 (default; hidden) to 2 (exposed).  This will expose AHCI Link Power Management – HIPM/DIPM under Hard Disk power settings.

In the same key, under dab60367-53fe-4fbc-825e-521d069d2456, change the Attributes key value from 1 (default; hidden) to 2 (exposed).  This will expose AHCI Link Power Management – Adaptive under Hard Disk power settings.

The article also mentions changing a couple Device registry locations, but I did not need to change those.

Change Power Settings

Open Power Options and go to Advanced Settings. Although that article suggested setting the values of AHCI Link Power Management – HIPM/DIPM to HIPM, mine were already set to HIPM and still causing problems. So I followed the example of local colleague Kevin Keane at North County Tech Center and changed that to DIPM:

storahci 2

Note that although now visible, I did not change the default 100 millisecond values for AHCI Link Power Management – Adaptive.

Since then, no more storahci errors!

One of my Server 2012 machines kept hanging, and it was more than annoying.

The system is a Dell Precision 690 Workstation, with dual Xeon CPU’s, and has the Hyper-V role installed.  This machine uses an Intel storage controller and has an addition Dell SAS/SATA controller.  Primarily, I use this machine as my iSCSI server to host disks for other servers in my lab.

The problem, is that several times an hour, the entire system would hang, for 20-30 seconds.  It would always recover.  However, all the other servers that depend on this server for an iSCSI connection to storage, would also hang up or throw errors caused by not being able to reach the storage.  All the VM’s running on iSCSI disks would also just hang until this self corrected.  VERY frustrating for demos.  Smile

I read several articles on the web, mostly pertaining to Windows 8.  There are all sorts of recommendation such as enabling hot swap options in the BIOS for AHCI controlled disks, changing from the Windows driver for the intel storage controller to the Intel branded RST drivers.  Some only experience this with SSD’s installed, and this system does have three of them.

When the hang occurred – you would see the following in the system event log:

What finally resolved this for me – was changing the power management settings, from Balanced to High Performance.  What this actually changed that was critical to this condition was modifying PCI Express > Link State Power Management > Off

image

Turning this from “Moderate” to “Off” resolved the issue and I no longer get these frequent hangs.

From an article I found that discussed this:

PCI Express has “active-state” power management, which lowers power consumption when the bus is not active (that is, no data is being sent between components or peripherals). On a parallel interface such as PCI, no transitions occur on the interface until data needs to be sent.

In contrast, high-speed serial interfaces such as PCI Express require that the interface be active at all times so that the transmitter and receiver can maintain synchronization. This is accomplished by continuously sending idle characters when there is no data to send. The receiver decodes and discards the idle characters. This process consumes additional power, which impacts battery life on portable and handheld computers.

To address this issue, the PCI Express specification creates two low-power link states and the active-state power management (ASPM) protocol. When the PCI Express link goes idle, the link can transition to one of the two low-power states. These states save power when the link is idle, but require a recovery time to resynchronize the transmitter and receiver when data needs to be transmitted. The longer the recovery time (or latency), the lower the power usage. The most frequent implementation will be the low-power state with the shortest recovery time.

I can assume that the 20-30 second “hang” was a resynchronization process, and turning this to “Off” kept the PCI express bus in synch at all times.  Might help you if you run into this.

  1. error 129 from storahci

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my machine has been freezing for about 30 seconds at a time. I’ve tracked this down using event viewer to the dreaded Error 129, with a source of storahci. I’ve made sure my SSD firmware is up to date according to the manufacturer, and Device Manager tells me that the disk drivers are all up to date. I see that the AHCI driver storahci is dated 2006, which well predates Windows 10 — is there a better one somewhere?

Most of the time these events are associated with playing games or watching videos, so it is possible that the graphics card or its drivers is responsible. However, when I logged in as an administrator just now, the machine froze for several minutes with 6 consecutive error 129s.

This is becoming untenable — it stops me viewing/listening. It all worked fine with Windows 7.

I’ve seen various threads fairly old on this subject in this forum, but nothing recent. Are other people still getting this, or have they managed to cure it?

    Configuration:

Mobo: Asus P7P55D-E from about 2010.

    Graphics card: NVidia GeForce 210

    SSD: Samsung 60 EVO

    HD: Western Digital WD1002FAEX-00Z3A0

    USB drive: Western Digital Passport

OS: Windows 10 Home build 1903

  2. Event ID 129 — storahci resetting raidport0

I have been trying to fix this for a few days now and I finally found the solution.

    Background:

    • HP envy m6-k022dk
    • legacy mode
    • Sandisk X210 512 GB SSD
    • installing Windows 10 took me over 35 hours due to this issue. The install disk has the problem
    • My computer would freeze up and update frames every couple seconds
    • getting «storahci resetting raidport0» in event viewer

The first and more obvious steps were to set power mode to high performance from Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Power Options . This had to be done upon Windows 10 install even in order to make Windows work without freezing. Now this only fixed my issue
when my laptop was plugged in but as soon as I unplugged it, the computer freezed up instantly.

Here is what needs to be done, It is explained here here in more detail: http://www.nxhut.com/2015/01/storahci-id-129-reset-to-device.html

    • go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\PowerSettings\0012ee47-9041-4b5d-9b77-535fba8b1442\0b2d69d7-a2a1-449c-9680-f91c70521c60 and change the «Attributes» key value from 1 (default;
hidden) to 2 (exposed). [This will expose «AHCI Link Power Management — HIPM/DIPM» under Hard Disk power settings]
    • go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\PowerSettings\0012ee47-9041-4b5d-9b77-535fba8b1442\dab60367-53fe-4fbc-825e-521d069d2456 and change the «Attributes» key value from 1 (default;
hidden) to 2 (exposed). [This will expose «AHCI Link Power Management — Adaptive» under Hard Disk power settings]
    • Now go to Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Power Options >> Change Plan Settings >> Change Advanced Power Settings
    • Under Hard Disk, expand «AHCI Link Power Management…»
    • Change «On Battery» and «Plugged In» both to «Active»

Now it should not freeze. The article has 1 other step that I did not do because I thought it was not necessary. Now Microsoft please fix this so it does not take 2 days to install Windows when it only should take 30 mins to hour 1/2

I changed AHCI Link Power Managment to «active» and now is ok.

    It is working for me.

Hey there community —

Describe your system:

  • Custom built system
  • Windows 10 Pro (64 bit) (fully updated)
  • GPU: gtx 1080 (latest driver)
  • Drives in storeMI tier: Corsair Force Series MP500 240GB M.2 NVMe PCIe Gen. 3 (fast tier) + Seagate 4TB BarraCuda SATA 6Gb/s 256MB Cache (ST4000DM004) (slow tier)
  • Driver version storeMI: 1.3.1.17380PR (latest)

  • Power Supply Corsair TX 750 (750W)
  • RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (8GBx2) (CMK16GX4M2B3000C15), XMP 3000MHz

Describe your issue:

I am running a Store MI tier drive for my data (games) drive with an NVME SSD and HDD.  After several months of having zero issues, my system suddenly started having freezes and apps not responding.  Eventually I tracked it down to occurring when Event 129s started appearing in my Event Viewer every minute while these freezes are occurring. The source is envirtahci, which I tracked down to the AMD Virtualized AHCI Controller for Ryzen 400 series.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the storemi and I am still getting this error.  I’ve tried adjusting power options and updating my chipset/bios to the latest.  Still keeps happening.

Update (List of things I’ve tried so far):

Windows Update-Install (to ensure Windows wasn’t the issue)

SeaTools Scans (SMART, Short, Long (bad sector scan), all passed)

Configured Power Settings on the AHCI controller (recommended via the web)

Ran chkdsk (pass)

Ran sfc /scannnow (pass)

Updated to latest chipset drivers

Updated to latest Bios

Uninstalled and reinstalled StoreMI software (didn’t break my tier)

Cleaned the registry

Defragmented (wasn’t even needed)

Ran Malwarebytes scan. (no issues)

Ran Windows Defender scan. (no issues)

Ran Spybot Search and Destroy scan. (no issues)

Any ideas?

Thanks.
