0xc0040001 techstream

So you’re trying to get Techstream going, but you keep getting errors; let me help you solve all of them in one place.

Toyota Techstream 0xC0040001 Error – This error is due to a firmware limitation, there are generally two firmware versions of the J2534 connector. Version 1.4.1 and Version 2.0.4. To access data lists and active tests, for newer vehicles you need the 2.0.4 firmware cable.

There is no real way to update the 1.4.1 cable, because it does not natively support K-line. The best course of action is to order a new 2.0.4 cable.

MVCI Driver ended prematurely error – This error comes up for some Windows 7, and windows 10 people (particularly 64 bit):

Follow the below to complete the install; make sure you have the cable plugged in when you go to test FirmwareUpdateTool.exe

Download (PDF, 203KB)

Unable to connect to vim – This has to do with a misplaced path; essentially Techstream is searching for MVCI32.dll in C:\ but really it resides in C:\Program Files (x86)\XHorse Electronics\MVCI Driver for TOYOTA TIS\MVCI32.dll

What you need to do is take MVCI32.dll and make a copy of it, and paste it in the C drive so the path C:\MVCI32.dll becomes valid.

Enjoy!

Anyone that uses TechStream ever have this issue? I am able to read other data lists, customize settings, program keys ect. except read data list from Engine. Any time I try I get this error. fatal error 0xc0040001

Using this cable https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07X8GQKTJ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and tried TechStream versions 14.30.023 and 14.10.028

    TechStreamError.jpg

  2. Most likely a driver incompatibility. Might have to find a newer driver, firmware and/or reinstall Techstream altogether. Did you contact the person you bought it from?

Yeah in contact with him through email. Not sure if he will be able to help or not. Googling the error finds different threads on it, some suggesting different driver and some suggesting different cables, no definite answers though. Unfortunately I only know of one 64bit driver, not sure if there are others or where to look. The cable has firmware 2.0.4 and I checked it that it actually was.

Toyota Techstream.

Windows 7, 8.1 — x64 bit

Temp
MVCI Driver for TOYOTA.msi
msiexec /a «C:tempMVCI Driver for TOYOTA.msi» /qb TARGETDIR=c:tempmvci
C:Tempmvci
и укажите путь к «C:Program Files (x86)XHorse ElectronicsMVCI Driver for TOYOTA TIS» (“включить вложенные папки” флажок установить).
8. Далее заходим по пути «C:Program Files (x86)XHorse ElectronicsMVCI Driver for TOYOTA TIS» и запускаем файл “FirmwareUpdateTool.exe”

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREPassThruSu pport.04.04DENSO CORPORATION — TIS Techstream VIM]
«Name»=»XHorse — MVCI»
«Vendor»=»XHorse ELECTRONICS Co., Ltd.»
«ConfigApplication»=»C:\Program Files (x86)\XHorse Electronics\MVCI Driver for TOYOTA TIS\FirmwareUpdateTool.exe»
«FunctionLibrary»=»C:\Program Files (x86)\XHorse Electronics\MVCI Driver for TOYOTA TIS\MVCI32.dll»
«APIVersion»=»04.04»
«ProductVersion»=»1.1.0»
«ProtocolsSupported»=»J1850VPW:1, J1850PWM:1, CAN:1, ISO9141:1, ISO14230:1, ISO15765:1»
«J1850VPW»=dword:00000001
«J1850PWM»=dword:00000001
«ISO9141″=dword:00000001
«ISO14230″=dword:00000001
«CAN»=dword:00000001
«ISO15765″=dword:00000001
«SCI_A_ENGINE»=dword:00000000
«SCI_A_TRANS»=dword:00000000
«SCI_B_ENGINE»=dword:00000000
«SCI_B_TRANS»=dword:00000000

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREPassThruSupport.04.04DENSO CORPORATION — TIS Techstream VIMParameter]
«Baudrate»=dword:0001c200
«Comport»=dword:00000005
«Connect»=dword:00000000
«Interface»=»AUTOMATIC»
«Firmware»=»x»
«LE»=dword:00000000
«LN»=dword:00000001
«SN»=dword:00000000

Hello guys! Hoping I can get some help with this issue..

I’m using a Mini-VCI J2534 cable (Clear Color) that I had purchased online a while back. I found drivers that should have worked on this dongle. I am able to communicate with the car but when I go into ECU>Data List I get the error that it has disconnected. All the other data lists work except for the ECU one. The driver im using is the MVCI Autokent 1.4.8. I previously had another driver but it did the same thing. I’m running Techstream 16.00.017 but it did the same thing on older version as well. If anyone knows of another driver I can try I’d appreciate it. I have Tactrix Open Port cables I have ordered but wont be here for a while and I know those worked so for now I kind of need this one working.

Thanks!

The antivirus always flag it (those Crack files always show some Virus/Malware), but you just ignore it. The best way to run it, a Virtual Machine with only Techstream and nothing else. Even if the program has a virus, you will be OK inside the VM.

Hi !!
Just posted today about my Techstream Toughbook I just bought…any help ???…Thanks !!

That’s a CF-19 Toughbook you have. I have been using them for many years. If you ever have any questions in regards to it let me know.

Hey !!…thanks for the reply. So the Fatal Error is with the VIM and not the software ??…watched a video by NASTF.org and they said yes either the blue or green Mongoose cable…well, I’ll see what the seller sends me…the green Mongoose is $495.00…ouch !!…I just spent $1,100.00 on an Autel 906 for my Corvette and other non-Toyota cars I might be working on…WE also used these Toughbooks in the Airlines for years…we are actually transitioning to Ipads this month. The NASTF Youtube video below…thanks and I’ll keep you updated…one other thing…can you install the VIM drivers even after the software is installed ??

At 16:30 he talks about the clear cable !!

That is lite cable and should work just fine. Most people here used cable just like that. You might want to get another one if yours failed.

Incorrect. The original MongoosePro 1.0 cable was a clear cased cable. The new 2.0 and 3.0 have a different case and color.

MongoosePro Upgrade

Since we don’t have a pic of the other side of the cable, I can’t tell if it’s a real cable or a chinese clone.

I stand corrected. I have never seen the clear Drew Technologies clear cable. It’s got to be a pretty old one though. I bought mine from DT about 5 years ago and it was blue. If the OP can take a picture of the label we can tell as you stated.

Look and see if you have these programs installed on your computer.
Calibration Update Wizard by Toyota Diagnostics
PCS Data Viewer by Toyota Motor Corporation

These programs are installed when you install the «Real’ TS. I am not sure if they are installed by the «Pirated» versions. I do know that Toyota is getting more aggressive in trying to stop the use of pirated software. The actual software and TIS is by Snap On.

I don’t think Toyota supports the TIS Techstream 1.0 units anymore (the CF-19 based system you have), so I am not entirely sure how the software is going to act on that unit if it’s still the genuine stuff. Our dealership actually got rid of our only one because it was «obsolete» and we’re only using the newer CF-31 based TIS Techstream 2.0 and approved Green Mongoose Cables.

I do recall seeing an early clear cable long long ago, but I believe they have label stickers on them, so I don’t know if I entirely trust the one you have pictured.

Post Note-

Your CF-19 is a non-base model. That seems weird to me, all TIS Techstream 1.0 units I have ever seen have all had the proprietary Snap-On base with the extended battery and VIM module in them. I’m guessing your CF-19 was stripped and «Decommissioned» before being sold, I could be wrong on that; but all the units I have ever seen were sold to dealerships as complete packages.

Hi !!
Thanks for the info !!…the only programs on my Toughbook is the «Calibration Update» but no PCS. There is also a Toyota flash file icon too !!…so maybe mine is 50% legit…LOL !!!..probably be best if I bought a Mongoose cable but I’ll see what the seller sends me next week…already shelled out a grand for an Autel MS 906 so really don’t want to spend another $500.00 for a cable !!…thanks again !!

I also struggled with installing Tech Stream until I found this thread.

https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/how…nutes.1034923/

Essentially you install virtual box then download the «machine» that the original poster has already setup correctly with techstream.

I got it to work very easily on my both my Mac (with a Windows XP virtual machine) and my PC (also with his Windows XP virtual machine).

I don’t need techstream to change any of these settings. I installed a Kenwood Headunit with the maestro module and it loos like a factory install and the Kenwood radio now shows the menu on the screen to change all the door lock functions. headlight functions. windows up or down with remote key FOB etc.

And the built in Garmin GPS is sooooo much better than the stock headunit and GPS. I can show pics if your interested

Thanks for the info. The seller who I bought the Panasonic Toughbook with Techstream software loaded sent me another cable yesterday. NO GOOD for this one either. It looks like he sent me one of these «knockoff» cables !!…He insists it is a factory Techstream «lite» cable. I see there were X Horse drivers installed on the original cable. Purchased a Drew Technologies Mongoose cable yesterday. I’m SURE everything will work right now…I got a fatal error message when trying to access the engine «data list» !!
