• Related topics don’t appear to address the issue I have.  My laptop had Office 2010 Beta installed and now won’t install Office Professional Academic 2010.  Error 1714 indicates old versions not properly removed.

• I’ve tried installing Office 2010 about 6 times now.  First time it just hung up for hours an I had to cancel (actually just do a forced shutdown as the laptop froze up).  Now it consistently runs into error 1714 saying it can’t uninstall
  some components of ‘earlier versions’ of Office 2010.  I’ve tried everything to uninstall remnant bits of the previous installs, but all to no avail.  I have Office 2007 installed and am not keen on uninstalling this first as I have custom add-ins
  for Excel that will need reinstalling and I need to retain Excel 2007.

  Operating system is Windows XP SP3.

  Is there any way of avoiding having to unisntall Office 2007?
