I keep getting an error when trying to update the brand new 3ds i bought today. Says » An error has occurred unable to update. The system will now be restarted» i tried everything i could think of and im getting fed up real quick i have never had this issue with my vita, thinking about just returning it and getting rocksmith like i had originally planned. Figured i would stop here and check first see if you folks can help, thanks in advance.

How to deal with a 3DS update error

If your Nintendo 3DS system update failed to download, then you will find yourself locked out of the Nintendo eShop. Fortunately, there are several options for dealing with 3DS update errors.

These instructions for fixing 3DS errors apply to all variations of the Nintendo 3DS including the 2DS.

What Are System Updates?

Most electronic devices need updates from time to time. Occasionally, you are prompted to perform a system update on your Nintendo 3DS or 3DS XL. These updates install performance enhancements including faster software, new applications, and options that make navigating the system menu and the Nintendo game store easier. New anti-piracy measures are usually put in place during updates as well.

If a system update failure happens to your 3DS, don’t panic. Here’s an easy fix:

  1. Turn off your Nintendo 3DS or 3DS XL, then turn the power back on.

  2. Immediately hold down the L button, R button, A button, and Up on the D-pad.

  3. Keep holding the buttons until the system update screen boots up again.

  4. Tap OK on the update screen.

Tips for When You Still Can’t Update

Before you contact Nintendo’s customer service department, try a few other things to get your 3DS to complete a system update:

  1. Try again later. If the update timed out because of network interference, it might work fine if you retry.

  2. Temporarily disable your router’s firewall during the update. Don’t forget to re-enable it when the update is complete.

  3. Check for wireless interference. A system update requires a steady Wi-Fi signal, so a weak signal can prevent a system update from completing.

  4. Reset your internet connection. Turn off your modem and router, then turn them back on and try updating again.

Contact Nintendo 3DS Customer Service

If all else fails, consult the manufacturer for help:

  1. Go to the Nintendo customer service web page.

  2. Enter «3DS system update failure» (without quotes) into the search field to bring up supporting documentation.

  3. If you don’t see anything that helps, select Contact Us in the left panel.

  4. On the Contact Us page, select My Nintendo.

  5. Select Nintendo 3DS Family.

  6. Make a selection in the drop-down menu under Which best describes your issues?

  7. Select, Call, Chat or Email so that a technician can contact you.

If your problem isn’t listed in the drop-down menu, just pick an option. You have to choose one to pull up the Call and Email icons.

hello i have a problem. my new Nintendo 3ds xl is on system version 11.7.0-40U and it will not update. i updated luma and it still wont update. and the eshop icon disappeared from the home menu.

First, try booting into Safe Mode by holding down L+R+A+Up on boot, if that doesn’t work, then delete your current Wi-Fi profile and make a new one.

Delete a system app that you never use (one that has a name, such as Health and Safety or Face Raiders), then connect your 3DS to Wi-Fi and leave it in sleep mode for a few hours. BTW, what is your error code and message?

why wasnt that the first thing you should of said instead of…..what ever it is that you have. deleteing system files wouldn’t be anything ya would want to do yet.

Im not getting no error code but i am receiving this message every time i try to update

  1. FBI → Pending Titles → (I forgot the exact options, but if there are any incomplete installations, delete or clear these titles).
  2. System Settings → Other Settings → System Update
  3. If another Internet source is available (ie, cellphone mobile hotspot or public/Starbucks WiFi), try to update on that one to rule out bad home Internet settings.

If the above fails to resolve the problem, the previous attempt at system updating might have resulted in a frankenfirm. Repair the 3DS firmware + custom firmware with CTRTransfer (Type D9) — CTRTransfer. Carefully read and follow the Instructions.

    I think i may have fixed it, sorry for the late response! Certain games on my modded 3ds were not loading. I switched to a new MicroSD adapter which appears to have helped a little bit, but i am redownloading and installing these new CIA files to see if maybe it was the game file that did not work,,,,i will come back with updates
