Trane Technologies Inc. is a heating, ventilating, and air conditioning designer, manufacturer, and seller. A subsidiary of Ingersoll Rand Inc. the company is based in Swords, Dublin, and has managed to build a wide network around the world. With 104 manufacturing locations in 28 countries, the company is setting the world with one HVAC system at a time.
What started as a plumbing business, soon became manufacturing for heating products. Putting them in the direction of a cooling system, and lead to the first air conditioner production in 1931. After purchasing General Electronics they built on their findings and created systems that blew everyone away. Adding top-of-the-line requirements and technology to every new model they released, the company soon made a comfortable space at the top of the food chain.
Trane air conditioners are still considered to be the best out there, but there are times you will find an issue here or there. Some of the most common ones come forward as error codes. Start by noting down the error code, and match it using the list below. Once you have the error code you can easily work your way to the fix. To help you out we have listed down some of the most common error codes for Trane AC.

Troubleshooting
Before requesting service, perform following checks. If the trouble has not been corrected, please contact a local dealer or the nearest customer service centre. Be sure to inform them of the details of malfunctions and unit model number. Do not attempt to repair the unit yourself. Always consult an authorized service provider.
Symptom | Remedy |
---|---|
Indoor unit does not give cool air immediately when unit starts. | Compressor restarts after approximately three minutes to protect itself. On compressor restarting units starts to give cool air again. |
Unusual odor blowing from outlet when unit is started. | Open the door or window for 2 minutes and run the AC in Fan mode to allow fresh air inside the room. This helps to remove odors from the room. |
Sound of water flow during operation. | This is caused by refrigerant flowing inside the unit. |
Formation of mist while cooling. | Room air is cooled quickly by cold air flow which looks like fog. |
Creaking noise during start or stop. | Deformation of plastic because of temperature change. |
Unit does not operate. | Check electrical system connections, cords and fuses. Check if power supply is within 10% of rated supply. |
Decreased cooling efficiency. | Check ‘set temperature’. Check for obstructions in air inlet and outlet. Check air filters for dirt. Check indoor fan speed. Check any other openings in the room. |

Purchased an American Standard (owned by Trane) HVAC in spring 2017. In spring 2018, the AC was not cold. Technician diagnosed the problem: leaking indoor coil. He replaced and recharged it, then told me that the $545 for labor/refrigerant was NOT covered under warranty — only parts are. When he sensed my outrage, he explained he was on my side and told me to call Trane Customer Service. I did — case #**. They explained the warranty to me (as if I needed that), and I made it clear that it IS A JOKE. How can a company stand by their product when they are asking consumers to incur cost for THEIR MISTAKES! When the supervisor realized I was not going to stop complaining (no yelling, no cursing), she asked if there was anything else she could help me with, to which I answered you have not helped me at all, and then she hung up on me as I began my next sentence… DO NOT BUY TRANE/AMERICAN STANDARD!!!

I am a HVAC service provider. I have a customer with a 3 yr old Trane unit under warranty. I ordered a replacement part under warranty. The part came in. I went to pick it up with the failed part at the local Trane supply in Chesterfield, Virginia and was told I still had to pay for a warranty part and would be reimburse later. They are fooling themselves if they believe that they have the best product and are engaging in false advertising when they say nothing can stop a Trane. The failure rate of their units are the worst in the industry.

You can stop a Trane! I had two brand new Trane units installed into my home. Less than two years ago. One of them can’t be fixed. My HVAC guy came out about five times. He’s done everything from change valves to Freon to pulling vacuums etc. Trane won’t stand behind their products, their consumer relations department is useless. Three different people gave me three different responses on how they would or wouldn’t help me. Today a supervisor told me that all of the three people I spoke to are wrong and they can’t help me and won’t. My unit is new and it is installed properly. It doesn’t work! Garbage! Run!!!

Trane XV90 Furnace is a Bummer. This furnace was installed 7 years ago. I am now faced with replacing a cracked heat exchanger for $1200 (labor only; warranty covers part) and an end bell/fan motor for about $1500. No way should this be happening on a 7 year old unit. Might as well install a new furnace (different brand) for another $2000 and get a 10 year parts and labor warranty!

Our residential central air conditioner a Trane XL1200 and XE90 furnace was installed back in 1996. It has been extremely reliable. The air conditioner is service checked once a year and has never failed once. The furnace has had the blower clutch go after about 13 years and start capacitor went after about 14 years. Very minor repairs with not one electrical or major mechanical failure on either. Getting a good contractor for installation is essential. We had the local Trane dealer do the install of which the bulk of their work is commercial installations. Not sure about the other reviewers but I recommend Trane to everybody for the reliability and efficiency.

We have a top of the line variable speed high efficiency Trane natural gas furnace. It is now 14 years old, but apparently nearing the end of its life. So much for the 20-year life expectancy we were told to expect when we bought it. We had to have the inducer motor assembly replaced twice within the first year of ownership — at least that was covered under warranty. 13 years later, we have had to replace the blower motor assembly in December 2014 for $800, parts and labor. Now, in March 2015, we have to have the inducer motor assembly replaced again at a cost of $900.00, parts and labor. The local HVAC service technician was able to get it running temporarily — bad bearings — while they order the part. Its been a brutally cold winter here in the northeast, so the furnace has gotten a work-out. We will be pricing new furnaces this summer — and we will not be buying a Trane. When the furnace works, we have been happy with the variable speed functionality. But the endurance has been very disappointing, especially since it was such an expensive furnace to begin with.

Trane XB14 Weathertron. I purchased a brand new Trane 3T-15 Seer Air Conditioning/Heat Pump Unit from a reputable company who recommended this unit and completed the install May 2011. Ive been with this A/C company since I moved to Florida 18 years ago, so I trusted their recommendation. I was told Trane was the top of the line and worth paying more to have the best, peace of mind, 10 year warranty if registered within 60 days, etc. Its been nothing but a costly nightmare once the 5 year mark was reached and the 10 year warranty ended up NOT being what was sold to me. Even though the company has been good about some of the items that were supposed to be 10 years, they have haggled with me and TRANE over what is actually covered on the warranty and the period of time. CRAZY! CRAZY!With this major purchase, you would expect to get more than 5 years out of a system without spending additional major $$$. The following are my repairs/replacements since May 2016 to date: EFC control board, capacitor, condenser coil (plus R410 to replace what was lost), another trip to fix a R410 leak as a result of when the condenser coil was replaced, replaced entire circuit board, new blower relay, and thermometer all within a 3 year period. Keep in mind, that not only do you pay for labor to install the warranted item, each visit is a service/diagnostics fee.Today, my system runs constantly causing very high energy bills because the A/C simply cant keep up with the outside temps — called for service and after diagnosing the units for 1.5 hours, they tell me they cant find anything wrong. The AC Guy told me that they just dont make Trane Units like they used to!! Im very disappointed in Trane products, I wish I would have read these reviews before taking the recommendation of a company I trust, and certainly dont recommend purchasing a TRANE to anyone. Very Disappointed!

New home built in 2007 new Trane furnace installed. Wrong from install, noted by the service technician during a routine maintenance check and trying to fix a water leak coming from side of furnace. Charged me $187.95 and still that night the water leak continued. The next day 3 other techs came and tried to diagnose the problem. A roll of duct tape and lots of PVC piping later, the leak finally stopped after making my new furnace look laughable. Now we have rust issues caused from the water leak causing parts and switches to degrade and corrode. Needing a $20 part replaced the same reputable Trane dealer would like to charge $278 plus tax for something their bad install job caused to go out. After explaining that I feel the part was damaged because of the water leak that developed from a bad install and should be replaced at no charge, they told me I should just buy the part and replace myself. I said Im not going to do that and they told me they are wiping their hands clean of me and walking away from my situation. I tried to call Trane and they hung up on me. I tried sending email and they tell me theyre free to charge whatever theyd like to charge me as they are independent dealer. They do not want to understand that these problems are because of either a bad product or simply the bad install the tech admitted to. I will never own another Trane product during my lifetime. Horrible customer service and worse product. You can see from my photos the install job they did to my Trane furnace and the rust that has developed. And yet still no one from Trane or the installer would like to take blame.

My rating is for the heating and air conditioning company whom we purchased the equipment from and contact when repairs need to be made. We have 2 units. The first unit was purchased over 30 year ago and has not needed maintenance at all. The second unit was purchased five years ago and has needed to be repaired…. small repairs, nothing major, and we have been satisfied completely with both units.

I recently found it necessary to replace my 20 year old central HVAC. I contacted a local HVAC contractor in Denver for the job. They replaced my system with new a Trane furnace and A/C system. After waiting in 90 degree heat for 10 days for the equipment to be delivered and another 2 days for installation, when they flipped the switch — nothing! After another day of troubleshooting they discovered that a circuit board was defective! 8 days later, the new circuit board arrived. That finally got the A/C working. After a few days I noticed that the fan noise was really loud, constantly. After another service call, they determined that the fan controller was defective, and oh by the way, the heating was not working. Im sure it will take another 10 days to get a new controller. This is on a brand new, top of the line, $15k system. I strongly recommend that you consider another vendor for your HVAC. Trane clearly has quality control issues.

In 2017, I moved into a brand new home equipped with a Trane HVAC unit. Approximately 30 months later, the air conditioner failed. I was told that the condensing unit, a major part that normally lasts for ten years or more, was defective; that although the part itself was under warranty, the installation labor and coolant replacement were not and that a repair would cost close to $2,000. I was also informed that Trane and their dealers knew they had a problem with their condensers beginning in 2014 but continued to sell them and, as far as I know, based upon the experiences of others, still do. When the problem first occurred, Trane reimbursed the customers affected but eventually stopped the practice when it became apparent that there were so many claims.Like many of the reviewers, I was given the runaround by Trane customer service. Each time I called, I was asked to repeat all the information I had already provided as though the call was my first. I was assured over and over again that my case was under review but it was never resolved. When I asked to speak to a supervisor, I was told that it was not possible. In short, my experience with Trane customer service was probably the worst experience I have ever had with any company. There are many HVAC brands worthy of consideration. Trane is not one of them.

We bought a Trane heat pump about 6 years ago based on dealer recommendations and advertisements. Within the first 3 years every part except the cover was replaced under warranty. Since then we spent about $200 every quarter on repairs. The piece of crap is now 6 years old and the quarterly repairs just keep getting higher. I will never buy another Trane. Based on my experience it is a total piece of crap that cost more than any other product I have ever owned. We replaced a Goodman that I thought was expensive. When we replace this piece of crap Ill buy another Goodman and gladly pay the repair bills. My personal advice DO NOT BUY A TRANE!!!

My HVAC service man has just left after sharing the good news that yet another expensive fix is in store for me because of my Trane. My system was installed 5 years and 6 months ago, and wouldnt you know it, my leaking evaporator coil is toast and the warranty is… well yes… 5 years. This another in a long list of failures, repairs, bad contactor, bad capacitor, blown fuses, indoor unit fan not assembled correctly from the factory with evidence that the set screw was screwed down on the round instead of the flat of the shaft (that was a nice sound in the middle of the night btw), coolant added several times during the last 3 years until today finally discovering a huge leak in the evap coil. I guess it finally made its way from a slow leak to a deluge. Last fill lasted 24 hours. This is ridiculous. Stay away from Trane, please!

We built our house in 2010. Moved-in in Dec. 2010. In July of 2014 one of the Trane a/c units stopped working. The problem was apparently a bug crawled into a circuit box, fried itself and the part which was replaced by the a/c technician with a new circuit that was fully enclosed so it could not happen again. (Nice work on the design Trane). Sept 2014 another a/c stopped blowing cold air. The repair Technician said that the starter went bad so thats why the compressor was not working. So now another large bill to repair a 4 year old Trane a/c unit. $400 a few months ago and now $700 +. Not so happy with Trane right now. Of course none of the parts could be warranted. If youre looking for a dependable A/C, maybe you should bypass Trane.

Replaced our furnace and central air units in 2012. We purchased Trane from our HVAC provider…we had heard good things about them and had no concerns. First year, the unit worked fine. However, we had to have three service calls in 2014 because of cooling issues. We live in Wisconsin so we do not use the unit too often but three calls in the first year and half was nuts, not to mention the service charges we paid. About a month ago, we joked that we should turn the unit on just to make sure it worked and sure enough, we turned it on and 5 hours later, our house was two degrees warmer.Another call to the company we use who came out the next day and after checking the unit, told my husband that the coil needed to be replaced, and that while the part was under warranty, the labor would cost 1800 and take a couple weeks to get the part…the unit has been discontinued. Our other option was a new unit for 2100.00 (Trane would give us 300.00 off the new unit — big deal) We opted for the new unit, who would fix the old for that amount of money with no guarantee something else would go wrong. Now, every time I go in the basement and look at my new Trane furnace, I wonder what the future holds for us…..hoping we dont have to replace that as well. Very disappointed and will never recommend them and/or buy another Trane product. Personally, I think the unit was defective from the start and feel we have been taken advantage of.

When we built our house 8 years ago, the builder insisted on installing a TRANE unit with the suggestion that they were a very reputable company with a good product. In the 8 years weve had it, weve had 4 service calls on this unit, the last one was today and the tech informed me that the cheap copper tubing was rusted through and the condenser was damaged, total cost of repair will run me over $ 2600 to replace the air handler, the coil and filter drier. This is utterly inexcusable. Ive probably spent almost 1500 already on service calls and repairs on an 8 year old unit, pathetic.

After having over a hundred TRANE HVAC units installed by ZIRO and distributed by TERMO SERVIS, we had to replace all these rusted units (see attached photos) that were manufactured by Ingersoll Rands Kolin, Czech Republic manufacturing facility. These TRANE units were examined by a court-appointed expert who concluded that the manufacturer Ingersoll Rand used inferior quality materials in the manufacturing process. After only a total of less than 20 months of cooling activity, we had to replace completely over a hundred TRANE HVAC units due to corrosion. The most disappointing part of this entire process was that nobody from Ziro, Termo Servis, Trane nor Ingersoll Rand contacted us to find a solution to this serious problem. Even after receiving the report from the court-appointed expert, none of the above-mentioned companies (Ziro/Termo Servis/Trane/Ingersoll Rand) contacted us. Definitely zero quality and evidence that it doesnt take much to stop a TRANE.

I paid USD 5500 and had a brand new Trane HVAC installed in 09/2012. In Jan 01/2017, it stopped heating, my installer said the Coil was leaking, then under 5 years manufacturer warranty, I paid 600 labor for a brand new coil replacement. Then last month in 06/2017, it stopped cooling again! The same installer found the coil leaking again! With 2 days, Freon dropped off to almost 0 level. Then under 5 years manufacturer warranty, I paid USD 430 to replace another brand new coil. I called Trane and reported this issue after the 2nd coil failure, surprisingly the customer service guy named Alex offered me $67 to help me pay the repair. I was amused!!! $67 to help pay the fix?! I felt kind of he was trying to close the case using a small quick amount of money to zip my mouth. Honestly speaking, I am a busy single mom, dont have interest and time to make money in this way. I never thought of the reimbursement until one of CS reps mentioned it. More important, I just wanted an explanation and apology, cause we stayed in FLs coldest winter time without heating for a week, and suffered another hot week in FL summer without cooling, within 5 months apart!!! This was really frustrating! More frustrating is because this unit is TRANE, a 5500 bucks durable product! After the explanation with Alex, he doubled the reimbursement to USD 114, then I mentioned the first time coil failure, he doubled the amount again!!! I was totally confused again! I asked whats their reimbursement standard. He said they didnt even have it! So I requested to talk to his supervisor. The lady named Sylvia ** called me back a couple of days later, and blamed me I didnt do maintenance job before. I had another leaking fix for this AC unit in 2014, paid 75 bucks to repair it. It might make sense so I decided to took the responsibility for the first Coil Leaking failure in Jan 2017. However she still couldnt explain the second coil failure, continued to blame me its my fault. She did not apologize, instead denied this is a defective product and argued the product had no problem, even after she talked to my installer, who has 30 years AC experience and addressed the defect issue. The lady was rude, lacked CS skills. She refused to give me an apology from the beginning, really made me concerned TRANEs customer service. I requested her supervisors contact, she argued she had not, the letter if I wrote, would come to her any way! If I didnt agree on the offer, she would withdraw the offer and close my case!!! What a threatening CS rep!!! Anyway, I had no choice and accepted their USD 217 offer, however I would not trust TRANE, claimed to be the most RELIABLE AMERICAN product any more!!!

I bought a new Xi15 heat pump and furnace on 16 Jul 09 and the thing hasnt worked right more than a few days at a time since I bought it. I had to have gas serviced two times since install—the first time was just days after the annual service was done and nothing was found wrong. The first time, the tech didnt have enough gas and said that hed be back (yep, he came back the next year for the service and had to fill it again). I had the annual service done in July and ran the AC for two days. I just decided to turn on the heat a couple of days ago and it didnt work again. Every time I turn the unit on, after a couple of months, it doesnt work. Its an $8,700 piece of **.The tech came out Friday again and said that the fan motor is bad and said that it will be $328.75 labor to replace—should take all of an hour. Anyway, Ill never do business with Dicks or Trane again. Mike **, the sales guy, lied about the warranty and Dicks tried to scam me on the annual service that was free. Trane doesnt even want to discuss the issues and refers me back to Dicks so they carry the same reputation in my book. I am just sorry that I went way out of my way to help Trane get cutting edge technology from my own company. I should have thrown them the same bone, but Im not like that.

We own a 5 year old Trane HVAC system that came with a 10 year warranty. It just required a $1400 repair which the repair technician indicated was a design flaw/manufacturer defect. I created a case with Trane requesting reimbursement and their response was a quite dismissive form letter denying any responsibility for their faulty system. Check out their Facebook page before purchasing a Trane product. Its FULL of similar complaints from other disgruntled consumers. I intend to file more formal complaints.

I had a contractor installed a new furnace yesterday, went to Tranes website today to complete the registration, its website does not allow me to enter series number or model number. The registration page design is a piece of junk. So I called customer service instead, it is funny that the rep asked me to repeat my address, phone number, model number, serial number, email address … everything 2 to 3 times. I spent ONE hour to complete the registration, it should take 5 minutes to do this online with other companys products.

Even though I have had my current systems for only three years, I am very happy with Trane. The two units I have have been operating flawlessly for the entire time. The systems that were here when I purchased the house needed great deal of TLC for several years, even though they were only two years old when me bought the property. When my daughter in Massachusetts had an addition put on her house two years ago and asked my advice, I told her that both my personal research and my experience had convinced me to go with Trane.

2.5 ton HVAC unit defective coil — Unit was installed on May 24, 2014. One month beyond unit installation guarantee on parts and labor the unit quit cooling. The unit originally cost $4,500 and the installer BURGESS AIR CONDITIONING LOCATED IN CLEARWATER FLORIDA does not offer financing. Two years and one month later, we required service and the replacement of the coil which cost us $891. Time to repair unit by obtaining the coil took over 2 weeks. 90+ degree temperature over this period. The part was NOT EXPEDITED for delivery for our unit. Burgess or Trane would not take any action. Would you believe that Trane offered $109 for our inconvenience. Burgess told us where we could buy a portable unit until ours was fixed.

My wife and I purchased a 2500 sf. home in 2011 that was equipped with 2 Trane HVAC systems. The home was designed to operate with 2 systems to provide adequate airflow for both 1st & 2nd floors and to eliminate the excessive wear & tear of only relying on 1 unit to do the job. To this point, I have never owned a home that was equipped with a Trane product, but have always heard great things. We actually thought we were getting a little Peace of Mind because of the feedback weve heard about the Trane brand, but Peace of Mind was the last thing we received. Our opinion about Trane products took a turn for the worst last week when I noticed that the AC system sounded slightly louder than usual. My first instinct was to check the vents for airflow, which there was no cold ac coming out. When I checked the main HVAC unit, I noticed the lines were frozen (usually means low Freon or better yet, a Freon leak). At this point I called a reputable AC company to come out, fix the leak and recharge the system. When the technician arrived he began troubleshooting the system and discovered there was severely more problems with the unit than originally expected. When the technician opened the unit he noticed that there was excessive corrosion to the internal parts, which also needed to be repaired. After a full survey of my ac system the technician told me that I have 2 choices: Option 1, repair the defective internal parts which was quoted at $2,600.00 or Option 2 Replace the entire AC system for about $6,000.00. I called Trane to inquire about any warranty offering and the lady kindly informed me that my unit was not covered.Im not a detractor of the Trane brand because of the quoted cost of repair, I am completely aware of the Cost of Ownership and maintenance cost. Im a detractor of the brand because the product performance/life expectancy does not meet the companys product message. There is a certain level of expectations that consumers have when they spend their additional money for a premium product. Being a first time Trane owner and having had my first experience working with Tranes customer service, I can honestly say I have ZERO interest in ever owning another Trane. I will try to load pictures of my A/C system to accurately reflect its condition. Externally, the system looks brand new. Internally, well, that is a different story.

I had the XV20i installed in the spring of 2014 with all the bells and whistles. It ran perfectly quietly all summer long until winter. In heat mode, it sounds like a light airplane beginning to take off. I now have my neighbor complaining that he cannot sleep even though his two car garage is between the heat pump and his bedroom. Is this a universal problem with this unit? It is supposed to be the Mercedes of heat pumps.

I had a 4 ton Trane heat pump installed 2 seasons ago at my beach cottage. After only 2 seasons, my evaporator coil rusted out and caused a loss of freon. The part was under warranty so my repair bill was only $450. The grate which holds the fan motor has almost corroded to the point fan will not operate safely. When I complained, I was told I live in a high corrosion area which is the cause of my problem. The technician said he sees this problem frequently because the copper and aluminum is from China on the new models (my last unit operated in this same location for 11+ years). Trane needs to do better than this.

We have 11 Trane furnaces installed in a house built 7 years ago. We have replaced 5 evaporator coils and now have another one we have to replace. The excuse we hear is that this was a manufacturing problem where copper was used instead of aluminum. There are tons of problems itemized on the internet related to quality problems. Every time we replace one, it costs $1,300 and all we get are excuses. Ill tell whoever will listen that they should not buy Trane products. I have never had a problem with any furnaces in any home we have ever lived in, which has been two previous homes (one for 10 years and another for 27 years). No interest from anyone from Trane to provide any assistance or demonstrate any interest in helping to reduce the cost and accept responsibility for faulty engineering design. Im actually surprised that there has not been a class action lawsuit filed since it is common knowledge that there was a major engineering design flaw.

We recently purchased 2 new Trane roof mounted air conditioner units installed by very experienced company. Both (separate sides of home) failed soon after installation. The copper tubing came apart at joints from defective weld joints and all freon leaked out and house got very hot in Arizona sun with senior citizens and grandchildren on several occasions. Repair persons came and had to weld defective joints in several places. Now the units are not cooling again and apparently the joints are detaching again — leaking freon into the atmosphere again. We heard from AC repair company this is happening many times around Phoenix and they are running from house to house on these units — Trane model # 4whc3042a1000aa — I will file claim in Scottsdale Small Claims Court in near future.

On October 23 2019 Trane dealer from Ormond Beach FL installed Trane® 4TWR4036G1000 XR14 heat pump and Air Handler. According specifications on heat pump it must include Climatuff® compressor. The Climatuff® compressor is the only one Trane uses in its residential systems. Its durable, reliable, and highly efficient. That was the reason I decided to install Trane. My heat pump has a LG compressor. (Number part COM11968). When I ask my dealer why, they just told me they changed it without explanation. I do not know was it a bad unit or installation. They also changed evaporation coils. All in first week. When I called Trane customer service they told me last time they had such problem in August 2016. They advised me to tell my dealer to send unit back to distributor and get a new one. No warranty claims. No invoices for product and parts installation. My system did not pass city inspection because they did not put hurricane pad for elevation. I refuse to have Trane without Climatuff compressor. I am a widow living on VA pension and can not afford to pay for future repairs. I need second opinion from another Trane dealer and resolve this situation as soon as possible because it is affect my health.

Installed a Residential Heat Pump during the build of new home Sept. 2008. We wanted a heat pump to get away from Oil & save money every year — so far not the case. NOTE: Filters were changed every 2 months regularly. Unit was fully serviced every fall. Dec. 2010 — went away for Christmas holiday — returned home to find exterior compressor in a 6 solid block of Ice. Service tech found a leak inside of the gases due to faulty valve. Jan. 23, 2013 — Fan blower motor gone! Part covered under Tranes 5 yr warranty — but not service labor to replace it. Jan. 16, 2015 — Fan Blower Motor GONE Again!! (was -27 cel. in N.S.). Ordered in a new one direct from Trane manufacturer, arrived, service tech found shaft was bent — so he rejected it. (I guess Trane doesnt do a QC check on parts when they build them or when they leave the facility). Had to Air frt. in a new motor once again. Jan. 22, 2015 $1200 later & Heat pump back working!!! Nothing Rides Like a Trane HA!! — Most Tranes I know have a reliable Engine!!

I am done dealing with Trane. Turns out Nothing can stop a Trane except bad customer service. Purchased a packaged rooftop HVAC unit about a year ago. It suddenly stopped working. Inspection showed the fan shroud had not been installed correctly at the factory (missing a rivet) and in time it drop down, caught the fan and ripped it from the remaining anchors. Fan & motor also damaged.Contact my installer who informed me that the shroud, fan & motor would be covered but not labor ($480) & the top cover (all bent up) because it is not a functional part of the unit (ignoring the fact it hold the fan assembly & shroud). So, add $800 to the cost of the unit. I contacted Trane myself & escalate the issue. They did not care, simply quoting the warranty. I gave up, did my best to bend the top back into place, bought a rivet gun, and fixed it myself in about two hours. This is the 4th Trane I have purchased in my remodel business. It is the last. Plenty of other options.

Had a new Trane heat pump system installed in May of 2013. The system worked well until winter came. My first bill in Dec was $294. My second bill was $387, third bill was $528. I first thought the company that installed the system had underrated the size system I needed, so I called them. They came right out, & discovered the filter drier had not been installed properly & I was told it was a factory defect. I called Trane & attempted to get them to pay me for my loss due to their factor to stalled defective filter drier. After being in contact with 3 different customer care personnel & sending them previous years bills, I was told they dont pay customers heat bills. After several communications back & forth. They told me they would send me a check for $200. I responded that I wasnt looking for welfare & evidently they needed money more than I did. After that, I sent 2 emails to the CEO of the heat pump division with absolutely no response. I have used Trane systems for 20+ yrs because of their quality, but evidently their responsibility ends with repair of the defect. They assume no responsibility for cost incurred by the consumer. The people who sold me the unit & repaired the unit were great. I cant say the same for the producers of the unit!

In 2001, we built our house and went with top of the line Trane heat pumps, two of them. In 2004, hurricane Ivan came in and took our house. In 2005, we rebuilt and had the same units installed, Trane heat pumps with the UV filter system 14xl. Well in 2007, the 3.5-ton unit went out. We called the company that installed both units, Mooneyham Heating and Air in Milton, FL. They came out and told us the coil was no good and needed to be replaced. It would cost us $1,500. We told them it is under warranty. They said, “Let us check on that and we will get back to you.” Well, several days go by and no call back, so I called them and they said, “Sorry for not getting back to you but we have been really slammed.” I told them, “Well, I would like to have A/C again.” It is 90 + outside. They told me that Trane would only cover the coil under warranty and we would have to pay the labor. I said, “Can I have their phone number?” So I called Trane in South Florida. After two days of the dog chasing its tail, they got back to me and told me over a 3-way call with Trane and Mooneyham that Trane would be paying parts and labor to Mooneyham. I said, “Great, when can I have my A/C back?” Well, that’s another issue. The coils are on backorder. I said, “What? It could take up to three weeks to get you one sent in the mail.” I told them that is not going to work, so I called our local district and they have one on the shelf, 6 miles from me. So I called Trane back and told them there is one on the shelf at this place, call them and I will go and pick it up for Mooneyham. “We can’t do that, sir. It has to come from us.” I know the system is out again and they will not fix under the warranty agreement and the other unit just went out for the same thing. So I have two units not working and no A/C in 90+ weather. I guess their slogan is incorrect — Its hard to stop a Trane. Well, everything I have seen on this form and other Trane units are junk and overpriced. It was our first and last and I will be turning this over to our lawyer.

We replaced our aging Goodman (18+ years) air conditioner with a new Trane
We replaced our aging Goodman (18+ years) air conditioner with a new Trane XR17 5 ton unit; in the process also changing the condenser, coils & furnace with Trane units. Our old unit was beginning to show its age with frequent breakdowns (but no compressor failure yet) so we decided to go with a installer recommended system. The units were installed by AC Advance of Houston, on February 3rd, 2018 — during winter. Total bill $8400. With the coming of summer in Houston, the air conditioner was switched on — and the ac compressor failed after just 1 week of usage, on 1st April 2018! Not quite what would be expected from a premium brand like Trane.Right now we are stuck in a limbo. I have requested that the ac be replaced by a new unit — since I consider that the unit was new enough when it failed that I should get a new one. The installer is willing to pick it up and install for free — if we can get one. The local distributor for Trane — Hunton Distribution — has shrugged it off by saying that at best we can get a compressor replacement. I have reached out to Tranes warranty replacement — and they are doing due diligence and thorough review of our request. Meanwhile we are sweltering in the Houston heat and humidity while we wait for them to decide on our request. I will update once I hear back from Trane.

I had my upstairs unit replaced with a TRANE system, after the 15 y/o unit failed. I researched models and went with TRANE b/c of their supposed good track record. I have had nothing but trouble with the unit since installed 4 yrs ago in 2012. The coil failed after the first 14 month in 2013, which I was told was an $1800 job had it not been covered by 2 yr labor warranty (thank God for me). The past 2 years I have had to have it serviced for AC failure twice! Each time it was for a different reason, but both resulting in leakage of Freon. The first year it was from a loosened Schroeder. This past repair was from for a leak at txv, a7# Freon leak!I have a great local company who worked with me on labor charges and recommended I contact TRANE for potential replacement. Their customer escalation department is a JOKE. I requested for them to replace my unit as there has been a problem each year and a major component failure with the coil. They basically said, sorry for the inconvenience but we cant do anything except pay half of your last charge (which totaled $274 of $550). It would have been closer to $800 as the labor was 3 1/2 hours but my HVAC company only charged an hour. Sheena **, the escalation rep did nothing but drag her feet for 2 months and offered me real compensation that I deserve.I honestly think I got a lemon or their product just has deteriorated so bad that they cant even stand behind it anymore. I had my downstairs unit replaced the year before this TRANE with a Carrier and havent had the first minutes trouble with it. I wish Id gone with Carrier again! AND, I have both units serviced twice a year for maintenance, so I take care of my investment. DO NOT BUY A TRANE! THEY WILL WRECK YOUR BANK ACCOUNT and THEY DONT CARE ABOUT THE CUSTOMER.

My nine year old XV90 Trane furnace leaks water and two different contractors concluded that the heat exchanger is cracked. Even though the heat exchanger has a lifetime warranty, it will not be honored by Trane because that piece for my model is discontinued. As a result, they will only offer a credit of $360 for that towards a new Trane furnace. For a piece that is the heart and soul of the machine, that amount of credit is simply laughable since it would cost a lot more than that if purchased out in the market. Therefore, this lifetime Trane warranty is simply misleading to say the least. For now there is no resolution other than me shopping for a new furnace and I will never buy a Trane product due to this fiasco of a lifetime warranty.

We are an HVAC contractor in California and have been in business for 40 years. In the last 3 years, we have seen more coil problems than in all the previous 37 years put together. Trane is not admitting to people that they have had a huge problem with quality control. Unfortunately, we are the middle-man on these issues and customers get upset when we have to charge money for our labor, refrigerant and welding materials to replace these coils. Trane gives nothing towards these costs. No wonder Americans are upset about so called American made products. We are tired of getting blamed for bad manufacturing. When you are a small business in America these days, you get squeezed between big government and big business. So recently, i purchased a couple Trane air conditioning units for the home. I was downstairs testing the home for the new winter in our new home and noticed that one of our current furnaces that came with the duplex was failing to fire. Not only is this a fire hazard, but it means it could be a cold winter for our upper tenant. I examined both units and they both appeared worn and used and the other one was likely going to fail. I went to Trane.com and found a unit that I really wanted. Ended up with the XL95. They were a little pricey, I’ll be honest. But their multi-speed blower, auto mode for the fan motor, and super high efficiency has been amazing so far. We’ve had them for a few months and Wisconsin is just starting to get cold. I got the home down to 60 degrees and wanted to see how quickly I could get the home warmed up to 70 degrees. Took me 10 minutes to get us there and maintain that temperature. Overall, I am overly satisfied with these units and my tenants will be as well.

I’m a master HVAC tech. I installed 2 Trane xl16 heat pumps in my in-law’s house in 2006. So far both inside coils blew out in the first two years and one of the replacement coils that was suppose to be of better construction just blew out in the same place the last one did. Although I can get the parts under warranty, I’m out $250 worth of 410a Freon, not to mention the time and aggravation. All I can say is what happened to Trane and where did their quality go? Obviously profit outweighs making a good product. It has gone downhill so bad that companies in my area that have sold them for decades quit selling them, including me.

We installed an XL15 system in our home — heat pump, air handler, etc. near the end of 2011. 6 mos. after it was installed the fan motor on the air handler died. It took a week to obtain the replacement. Now, in May of 2019 were dealing with the need for other parts for the air handler — a circuit board, valve, EVAP sensor and another sensor. Parts take much too long to be obtained. They say 3-5 business days, but were already past 4 days and I dont expect to see them within 5. So, buyer beware that unless the part(s) you need are readily and locally available, you could have a problem. The risk is high and when we replace this system it will NOT be with a Trane system.

We have a Trane heat pump and electric furnace. The whole system is 11 years and 2 months old. The heat pump has to be replaced because the compressor is shorting out. When I contacted the Trane company, I was told there was nothing they could do since the warranty was only 10 years. I thought Trane was such a great product! I would never recommend this product to anybody!

My Trane heat pump quit and I called Country Heating and Cooling Inc to check it out and make the repairs. The system was less than 5 years old and still under the 10 year parts warranty. They discovered a very small leak in copper tubing and made the repair. They also replaced the condenser fan motor I assume because the leak caused a failure in the motor. It took 90 minutes and I was charged $1055.48 which included refrigerant. Shouldnt refrigerant be part of the parts? I asked why so much and they said this was a standard fee for this work. Its amazing Trane uses such cheap copper tubing or makes such poor connections so that it fails within a few years. Its even more amazing HVAC companies can charge almost $500 per hour for repairs. Top lawyers dont make that much.

I have three 20i, 4 ton, dual fuel heat pumps on my home. The house is 5 years old. All three of these units have had major failures during the 5 year period. Failures include a heat exchangers, two leaking condensers, failed blower motor, failed gas valve, multiple failed circuit boards, failed thermostat, and a total air handler failure which resulted in the entire unit having to be replaced. Two of the failures resulted in the units being down for over a month before parts could be obtained. I have had multiple homes with many different brands of HVAC units. This is my first experience with Trane, and it will be my last. My house was custom built and is toured by many people for construction ideas. When asked if I would change anything, the only thing I advise people to do is stay from Trane HVAC units. When the warranty is up on these three units, I will very likely replace them all with another brand. Its obviously Hard To START A Trane.

We have 5 Trane HVAC units and they are 4-5 years old. They have been the source of consistent leaks stemming from coil problems. The Trane dealer who installed them points at Trane and says it is product quality problems. We lost confidence in the service from our installation Trane dealer and the new Trane dealer is much more honest and transparent to explain that these are manufacturing problems. This dealers service people say the coils had manufacturing quality problems so Trane changed the material used in the coils and will not acknowledge this problem or face up to the problem with their customers. I have $2,500 of repairs on these Trane units and some house repairs as well. I have written 2 lengthy letters (with all supporting repair bills to support the problems) in May 2012 and one just recently and received no response from Trane, except my wifes persistence reached a Trane employee by phone on the first letter and this employee said Trane would not do anything. I called their Customer Service # a week ago on our 2nd series of problems and waited for over 1 hour with no response and no follow up response from them even though their customer service # takes your information and says they will call back the same or next day. I emailed their Customer Service 3 days ago and no response to that. In short, Trane is a company with serious product quality problems, and per their lack of willingness to service their customers, doesnt value their customers. I would strongly recommend to anyone building a home or replacing your HVAC systems that you not consider Trane.

I find it hard to read all these negative reviews about Trane. I am Canadian and sell and install Trane furnace’s, A/C, Heat pumps and air handlers since 1991 with very little issues at all. I sell a 10 year parts and labour program with every piece of equipment just to make our customers more comfortable with the equipment and if it is required it protects them from any charges for 10 years. I am thinking that the installs that I am reading about are not done to manufacturer’s specification which is very important to follow or the equipment will not work properly and or the installers are not properly trained or qualified. There are contractors here also that are not qualified and only care about getting your money, Trane will take away your dealership if you have continuous install problems.

I purchased a brand new furnace air conditioner from Apollo H&C in 2002 and within weeks was having issues. This went on for over a year and the installation company, Apollo, replaced nearly every part in the furnace and it STILL wasnt right. Finally, they replaced the furnace with a brand new one and that one began having issues. Here it is 12 years later and I am still dealing with a product that I would NEVER recommend to my worst enemy. Not only did they install a lemon of a furnace TWICE, but I was told the furnace was too small for my home & the A/C was too large. The A/C blows out every year when we first turn it on and has to have a part replaced nearly every year. STAY AWAY FROM TRANE & APOLLO HEATING & COOLING IN S.C.S., MICHIGAN.

Purchased Trane HVAC system in September 2014. I live in Southern CA on the coast where air conditioning and heating is rarely needed except for unseasonal cold and hot days. Went to turn the AC on in July 2018 and it did not work. Ultimately determined that there was no refrigerant/coolant in the unit. Was also told that there have been ongoing issues with the Trane unit/components breaking. In my case it may be the coil component. At a cost of $550 the unit was refilled with refrigerant and a sealer with the hope that the sealer fixes any potential leaks. We will see. I would not expect a central air conditioning unit that is rarely used to break down after 3 seasons of use.Updated on 09/29/2018: Two month update — the AC unit is not working again. The house is not cooling down. Grrr. I will update again after service/repair technician comes.

I am actively seeking a Florida class action attorney to represent me and thousands of other Florida consumers. Here is the background: In Feb. 2013, I was quoted $6185 for a new TRANE XL Hyperion 16 SEER 3 ton heat pump system for my condo in Gainesville, FL. This included a 10-year limited parts warranty supplied via the TRANE corporation, which was why I selected their equipment. The local utility company supplied a generous rebate as well, so my final purchase price was $5085 out of pocket. There were lots of forms and even air flow tests to be performed for energy efficiency, and a city building permit, too.Unbeknownst to me, this 10-year limited warranty coverage required ONLINE REGISTRATION WITHIN 60 DAYS, or became invalid, and was reduced by 50% to a mere 5-year base warranty. The online registration had to be done via a TRANE company website. However, I was not told to register the serial numbers, or I would lose my warranty coverage. But, the dealer, who would be clearly advantaged by this reduced coverage, knew about it for certain, as the policy started 4 years prior in 2009.My AC system is now 2 years old and I learned quite by accident, that I had lost my warranty coverage because it was not registered online before Day 61 on the TRANE website. I then contacted the dealer by phone and email and filed a request with TRANE to get my original 10-year limited warranty (which I paid for) re-instated. After two weeks of email, calls and postings on Facebook with the TRANE Corporation, I was finally told this week by phone by Cierra **, Trane Escalations Supervisor, that Trane respectfully decline[s] participation to change your warranty terms to 10 yrs. On behalf of Trane Inc. I do apologize for any inconvenience this has caused and appreciate the time you took to make us aware of your concerns. Thus my 10-year limited warranty is now invalid and I am left with only 5 years.I believe that this is warranty fraud and may also violate the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act (DUTPA), and likely constitutes bad faith on the part of Trane, and the installing dealer, who should have registered the serial numbers on the day of the install, just as a LEXUS dealer would register your VIN with LEXUS when they sell you a car. Please note that this required 60-day online registration policy is an advantage to ANY UNSCRUPULOUS HVAC dealer, and a huge DISADVANTAGE to most consumers, including the blind, handicapped, mentally challenged, poor people with limited or no Internet access, out of town property owners, etc. I am appalled at TRANEs response to this sincere and genuine effort on my part to restore my original 10-year warranty coverage. I believe that it is possible that HUNDREDS of consumers fall victim to this disappearing warranty coverage policy, but I am only asking for your help to restore my original warranty. However, it is worth noting that TRANE could solve this problem tomorrow by REQUIRING that ALL FLORIDA DEALERS register the serial numbers of their system on the date of installation.Meanwhile, I believe the damages in the loss of 5 years of warranty coverage is about $3000, if not more. I have contacted an HVAC warranty services company to find out the actual cost to restore similar warranty coverage. I doubt that any other local dealer will issue extended warranty coverage on my system, as it is now 2 years 4 months old. ANY HELP YOU CAN PROVIDE IS APPRECIATED. I HAVE LOTS OF DOCUMENTATION I CAN SHARE, INCLUDING THE ORIGINAL SALES QUOTE, INVOICE, AND MANY EMAIL TO TRANE AND LIBERTY AIR.

I usually dont write reviews, but I am so disappointed in my HVAC purchase I couldnt help myself. DO NOT BUY A TRANE PRODUCT!!! Ive had Carrier before and it was a much superior product. My Trane has only lasted 2 years and now I need a new coil supposedly. Of course no warranty on labor so in addition to the 5K I spent 2 years ago, I am now about to drop another 700.00 for service and labor. If this is any indication of how well this unit is going to hold up, I will be buying another unit before this one is even 5 years old. Avoid the TRANE wreck!

I built my house and had an XL16i installed in 2005. Within 6 months there was a recall and the installer came out and swapped out both the exchanger and the compressor (virtually changed everything out except the copper and control lines). Since that time the high and low compressors have been replaced (at different times) three times up until the 10 year compressor warranty period expired. Since there is no coverage for freon or labor, I ate the costs every time and could probably have saved a reasonable amount toward the purchase of a reputable and reliable unit by now. So… two months (2016) out of the 10 year warranty the low-level compressor has once again failed. My service company was kind enough to wire past the defective compressor and now the unit is running on the high level compressor only. It is simply a matter of time before the remaining stage fails. I spoke at length with the Service Techs and both stated this has been a known, ongoing issue with this unit (in the HVAC community they replace these compressors on a regular basis!) and Trane simply ignores its existence… They (Trane) have a stockpile of compressors known to fail, a system (i.e. XL16i) with these ongoing, inherent problems which they refuse to address, and customers are simply stuck with their lemons! Where is a Class-action lawyer when you need them?

I purchased a new Trane system XL16i May 2015. This May (2016) the unit was not working properly. The company that installed it first said it was the reversing valve that was not operating properly so they had to install another one. Then it still was not working properly and they said it was the compressor now that had to be placed. We have been w/o a/c for over a week now. The installer ordered the compressor from Trane and it will take 5 days to get here another weekend w/o air. I called Trane and was informed that 5 days is their standard shipping. I purchased my home early this year and the house is less than 5 years old with two Trane Air Conditioner units. I received a 1-year buyers warranty for the house as part of the sales contract. As the summer heat started, we noticed the air conditioners were not working well. We contacted the warranty company for service. After a couple of checks including freon refill, they finally found out that there is a leakage in the main unit and the evaporator coil needs to be replaced. They said the unit is still under manufacturer warranty and asked me to directly contact Trane to receive a new evaporator coil and the warranty company agreed to follow up with the labor. I reached out to Trane but they said my warranty expired because I had to contact them within 90 days of purchasing the house. I have explained to them that I was never informed by anyone about this requirement, and I even did not know the brand of my air conditioner until there was a problem with it, but they did not accept. That is totally unreasonable, how can a home buyer know about this rule? This is just a way for them to get away from their warranty duties. I hope this review will help some people to know about this rule so that they can reach out to transfer the warranty within 90 days.

Our unit isnt 2 years old yet and the coil is leaking. They have no idea when the warranty part will be in. Coil Leaking, HVAC person tells us ALL HVAC UNITS are bad now. I hope the title says it all. I purchased a high-end TRANE for roughly $8000 a little over 4 years ago and while still under warranty the coil has been leaking and I ran out of Freon. To fill the unit up to get through the summer I spent about $700 for the coolant. The warranty doesnt cover labor, so even if I order a new coil under warranty, it will cost a fortune to install it, with no guarantee it will perform any better. My HVAC person said theres roughly 350,000 units with bad coils right now. Is there an agency I can call, like an insurance commissioner in our state? I know theres such a thing as a Lemon Law with respect to cars. Can there be a class action suit brought against these companies?

I really like my Trane dealer. But… The dealer advised me that Trane is not the Trane of old. They have issues in quality and design. I need two new units and am considering Carrier or another brand. What is worse is that the customer service reps are terrible. One last comment. Before you spend a lot of money on a new HVAC system you should air seal your attic. Remove the insulation and seal every hole and joint where the drywall touches wood. Do not add insulation on top of existing insulation in a leaking attic. I spent an extra $2k to do this and replaced the cardboard rafter baffles with corrugated plastic ones from DCI. They are great and brown recluse spiders don’t like plastic. The result is that my cooling costs was reduced by at least 30%. The existing HVAC system now runs less and should help reduce the maintenance cost of a new system.

I purchased a 1-1/2 ton and a 5 ton Trane model 4ttR HVAC condenser and air handler, in November 2011 for my 2-zone Florida home. The units have functioned free of significant problems until about 2 weeks ago (Nov 2015) when the smaller unit burned out the fan motor, and then a week later when the compressor in the 5 ton unit suffered a leak. Both parts were replaced under the manufacturer 10-year parts warranty — but watch out, because the light you see at the end of the tunnel is another train — being the labor costs which exceeded $1,000 combined. This is an out-of-pocket expense not covered by the parts warranty. Though I am grateful for the parts warranty, having to spend this much on labor costs to repair 2 separate units that are only 4 years old, is simply not something I would have expected from a product advertised to be built like a train. I paid almost $9,000 for the new units before applying the state energy rebates, and for this price I think I had a right to expect they would operate, free of major malfunction for at least 5 — 7 years before needing major parts replacements. At this rate, I am very concerned that the units wont ever make it to 10 years before they completely fall apart. These Trane units replaced an older model (different manufacturer) that lasted about 16 years. When the time comes to replace it, you can be sure I wont be riding with this Trane again.P.S. — I asked my installer if they could contact Trane on my behalf for some dispensation, and they politely said they would never get anywhere with that since they are a dealer; instead they suggested that I, as the end-user/consumer contact Trane directly to see if they might assist with some of the labor costs — after all, mine was not an isolated instance of one bad unit, but rather two units suffering major parts failures within a couple of weeks of each other; however after reading reviews of other folks who had contacted Trane, it seemed very much like it would be a waste of my time, particularly in view of the reaction I got from my dealer, so I chose to just suck it up. But neither will I be a repeat buyer when the time comes. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.

I have a TRANE HVAC heat pump system, that is still in warranty, equipped with a Digital Thermostat. The digital thermostat is the piece of equipment that I am having an issue with. When I contacted TRANEs technical service department, a technician led me through several troubleshooting procedures. The technical support person, Brandon, then advised me that the thermostat was defective and needed to be replaced. I asked him for the part number so that I could relay that information to my Trane servicing dealer. Brandon advised me that my thermostat was no longer being manufactured and there wasnt a compatible replacement. I asked him what I was supposed to do, and he intimated that I may end up having to replace my entire HVAC system because there isnt a replacement thermostat. I couldnt believe what I was hearing. I have placed several calls to 2 servicing Trane dealers in my area and the thermostat is indeed unavailable. I told the Trane Technical support person, that is like going out to start you car and discover the battery is dead, and a mechanic telling you that you that the battery cant be replaced and youll have to buy a new car. This borders on consumer fraud. I have a call in to the consumer affairs department, but Im not holding my breath waiting for a response.

I had a Trane Heat Pump installed January 2014. Initially it was quiet and shut off the same… quietly. Because the compressor is close to my living room wall and the handler is up in the bedroom attic, this issue is quite important to me. The air-handler revs up and pulsates before the unit kicks on and then since it is a two-stage unit, it does the same when it shuts off. Its very annoying when I am trying to sleep at night. The outside unit which is located on the ground outside the living room runs quietly enough until it shuts off. It shuts off very hard and very abruptly causing the metal unit to sound like someone just hit it real hard with a rubber mallet. And then it continues to vibrate probably due to the fact that the metal that is used is so thin it cannot absorb it, I am guessing. Ive heard it go off half way down the block when I am out front. Its kind of startling. I had a routine maintenance check this week and mentioned this to the repair man. He went out and drilled something and it seemed okay but for only two days. Now it is the same as it was before. As far as the air handler, he said that that was its way of talking to the outdoor unit and it was normal. Thats just the way they work he said. All in all, I wish I would not have bought this system. I also will, in the future, deal with a company that takes my concerns seriously and fixes the problem… right. I am stuck with this unit for a while now so I guess I will have to make the best of it… somehow. In the meantime, I plan on calling Trane tomorrow (good luck, huh, from what Ive been reading) to see what might be up. I also will be calling the service company to tell them their fix didnt fix the problem. On the positive side, this system does cool well and my power bills are lower which is a great thing since I live in the desert. However, it is definitely coming at a price… my rest and peace of mind and the peace of my neighbors. Their patio is on the side of where my a/c unit is located.

I would HIGHLY suggest NOT buying anything by the Trane brand. Heres why: I purchased 2 new systems from them thinking I was getting better equipment, but that could not be further from the truth. Keep in mind that I live in Arizona where the temps are 115º plus. Now, the first issue is that one of the 2 units went out immediately. It broke when I was out of town forcing the heater to run indefinitely, even though it was set to cool only. As it turns out, they cover all of their wring with peanut oil!?? Well guess what, mice LOVE peanut oil and they were attracted to that lovely taste (probably why we set traps with peanut butter and it works so well). This to me is just simply a bad business decision. Needless to say, everything in our room melted as the temperature was kept above 118 for 3 days straight, while we were gone. Now none of our drawers close correctly, our doors do not shut right and all of the oil in our wood furniture is gone. On to #2! Oh, Keep in mind, these are less than 1 year old! I am still paying $20,000.00 for these two lovely babies!! This time the coil went out, causing us to live in the peak AZ heat for almost a week. I was told that this is uncommon for any brand. I guess we are just lucky. #3 This time the control module went out in the air handler! I was told this never happens unless it is just a bad unit… Again, I guess I am just lucky. #4 This time the Thermostat broke. This is their proprietary thermostat, so their own technology on that thing. Good luck with these things, they have some convoluted method of resetting and joining the network or adopting to your account that is a real treat. #5 Did I mention that I still have a good year or more to go on my payments for these gems!!! Now, the coil went out and leaked out all of the refrigerant. back to 100º in our house! They said it would be at least a week before they could get the part to me (which I thought was a bit long for such a well know brand with distribution) so I wrote them a letter on their website asking why Amazon can get me anything I need in 2 hours, but they take a week, even though they are installing hundreds of these daily, in my city. I also asked is this the type of QUALITY that I should expect from my purchase decision to go with them?Guess what I received back in response to that letter? Well, if you guessed NOTHING, you would be correct. Par for the course here with Trane.#6 The vents and 2 stage motor never really seemed to be very productive, so I called my dealer locally and asked them to investigate. They found that this unit was shipped with malformed flashing on the air handler and it was blocking 80% of the air flow. He trimmed it out and got it back to normal. So, again, I write another letter to Trane on their website asking if this is something that should be replaced or if it is common and again asked if this is the Quality I should expect from their brand. My Answer? Ding Ding Ding, if you guessed NOTHING again! #7 Still waiting on my coil to be delivered after 2 weeks and the installer just called to tell me that Trane sent the wrong coil, so we will need to reorder it from them, AGAIN, and I need to wait. So, moral of the story? If you want really bad quality, tons of headaches, appointments, ruined furniture and pay at least 4 times as much as other brands, you should absolutely buy Trane. Or if you simply want the indoors of your house to be like this, then you should also buy Trane! Otherwise buy ANYTHING ELSE.

Trane heat pump — I purchased this unit from Sears with Sears extended warranty. I dont have all the detailed paperwork at the moment. However, I had several repairs over the years and those were done satisfactorily through Sears. However, the last repair was the compressor. This was approx. one month prior to the warranty expiring. Unit was 10 years old. After struggling with Sears, the unit was finally repaired. However, now one year later, the compressor has now failed again. Since it is past my warranty, I am going to buy a new unit.I had to go pick up my parts — I missed l/2 day of work with no pay to do this. They would not come to my house on Fridays which is my day off. The first visit, there was no repair. The second time they were scheduled to come, they did not show up. And the parts did not show up since I had to meet a truck to pick up my parts. It took me like two months and several calls to Sears to get this repair. When the tech finally came to my house, he was late, lost and there was a thunderstorm in the area (afraid of the bad weather); therefore he did the repair in a haste. All in all, it was a very annoying experience and cost me lost time from work, etc. Im not sure if this complaint is against Sears or Trane, but they work in coordination so both companies are at fault.I have given up and will buy a new unit from more competent companies. In the meantime, I suffer in the heat again this summer just like last summer.

We purchased a new Trane heat and air system for our home nearly a year ago
We purchased a new Trane heat and air system for our home nearly a year ago. We wanted the best and top of the line so we wouldn’t have to worry about problems. Paid a high price for the package for our up and downstairs. Within 3-4 months we realized we had an odd smell coming from the vents and after several visits we find out both units had Dirty Socks syndrome (Yep that’s for real). After several visits and attempts to fix this bacteria growing on the coils, they had to replace coils on both units with epoxy coated coils. Thinking now after 6-9 months of problems we should be good, a week before our warranty was up the condenser for the upstairs unit went out and Trane wouldn’t replace the entire compressor unit, only the condenser, so our heating and air company, knowing all the problems, replaced the entire compressor unit at their expense! We would never buy another Trane and will never recommend them after this experience!!!

We purchased our home in 2013. My a/c was out in August this year with bad coil which only 2 years and 2 months a/c system. I was told by Trane rep the coil part is not covered by warranty because is over 2 years. We have to paid a/c company full price to replace the coil. Now after 3 and half months later its go out again. Many people telling us the Trane coil part is not quality part, broke very easy in the short time. I am extremely upset with Trane a/c unit. House only 2 years old. Should not have such problems! Not sure there are people out there has the same problem as me? What advise someone can give us.

My issue started on November 18, 2015. I have had a non-functional heat pump for over 8 months now. Initially bought a new High Efficiency Furnace and Heat Pump from Gary at Southwest Heating. Very satisfied with install and workmanship. I did find out a work permit was not pulled, not sure if they are required in Elbert county, but most HVAC contractors will pull a permit regardless to cover their butts. Everything worked fine for a year and a half. Then we had a snow storm along with a power surge and my Heat Pump quit working.Called Southwest for service and they sent a guy who told me the disconnect was bad so it was replaced. Once I found out it was more than the disconnect I called Southwest again and another tech came out. Told me my Heat Pump compressor was bad. He said he would start paperwork for warranty since the unit was 1-1/2 years old and still under Tranes warranty for 10 years. Paid for my service call and 3 weeks went by and no word. I called Southwest and lady answering did not know a thing and would get back with me… Really. She did get back and said she was sending out Mike the owner to give me a quote. Mike came and did not know thing, he asked if his company installed it, or he pretended not to know a thing. Anyways, he called his tech and confirmed with him the compressor was bad. What does Mike the owner do, he quotes me $8000 for a new compressor unit and does not want to talk warranty. He tried calling the Trane Rep and said he had wrong number and would get back to me. One day went by no word, I call the office and talked with lady answering phones and she said I just missed him and he would call me in the morning. Never heard back from Mike the owner. Called another Trane authorized dealer (Parker Heating & Cooling) and had their techs come out. They spent hour and half diagnosing the Heat Pump and told me the compressor was fine, it is a circuit board. Cost of circuit board is $383, upon installation it was not the circuit board. The owner of that company did not want to talk about my 10 year Trane warranty and he quoted me $3000 just for the compressor and $4900 for the whole Heat Pump unit. This owner flat out said that doing warranty work does not benefit his companys bottom line and could care less about the warranty. Give me your credit card over the phone I will order and have it installed within a week. I said no thank you. I contact Trane consumer affairs submitting a ticket. I was contact by a representative 3 weeks later and was told he had contact both companies I have been dealing with. SouthWest Heating is sticking to their lie that it was hit by lightning so it will not be covered by warranty. Parker Heating told the Trane rep they would provide a labor estimate and file the warranty paperwork. A week has gone by and no response from Trane. There are wild fires in Colorado causing smoke and I am asthmatic and would really like to close my house up and run the AC, but I cannot, so there is a health issue now as well. It appears that Trane has done something around how they deal with warranty work with their Authorized Dealers which does not benefit the Trane Dealer. This approach puts the consumer in the middle taking the brunt of issues. Even though you have a 10 year warranty it not worth anything. Wish I would have not bought Trane, they used to be a good company along with product.

We purchased a Trane HVAC system in 2006 for our new home. The home was not occupied until mid 2007 so the unit was not in use until then. The air conditioner is XL14i and the gas heater is unit XV90. Since then we have spent well over $2000 in labor costs to keep the unit running. The control board was replaced twice, once in June 2012 and again in March 2013. We came to learn this was due to a design flaw. We have had switches and contacts replaced several times, and are now in the process of having to have the coils replaced. Each time we have had to pay labor costs. We went to Trane and asked for reimbursement of labor for the control boards since it was an obvious design flaw. The same is true of the coils now being replaced. We were flatly turned down the first time, and I am sure we will be turned down again. I have no problem paying labor costs for a part that wears out, but when the problem is design the company should be liable. Take my advice. NEVER buy a Trane. It is a piece of garbage. We have spent several days last summer and this summer with no AC, and this past winter when the heat didnt work because of the control board issue. Fifty eight degrees is not a comfortable temperature in your house. I am angry and disgusted that a company that advertises you cant stop a Trane is so poor at standing behind their product.

Our compressor on our Trane heat pump/air conditioner. After 1 and a bit years. Even though we did not purchase the extra labor warranty because who could stop a TRANE. Laugh out loud Something did. And they don’t even know what. Yes we got a new compressor, but the installation was 1500.00! So Trane has just lost many customers from our strata that just passed that the 61 units here could install them.

I recently moved into my custom built home. During the planning phase I requested TRANE equipment due to prior good experiences. Upon completion I had no idea that the TRANE equipment had to be registered 60 days after closing (I am sure its stated in the fine print or piles of documents one receives when purchasing a new house). Minor mistake… WRONG! The difference is with a brand new home and brand new trane furnace/ac/coil equipment you lose 5-7 yrs of warranty on the equipment if you do not register in 60 days… NO EXCEPTIONS, NO OPTIONS, NO INTERMEDIARY SOLUTIONS. BASICALLY NO ONE THAT APPARENTLY REALLY CARES! I strongly recommend using another company that is more transparent with their policies and has a real customer service department that is equipped to do the right thing when necessary! 10 year parts warranty if you register in 60 days! 5 & 3 year warranty if you dont… same new equipment, same new house but a rigid, ridiculous policy that none of their customer relations employees can even really defend. Weve already had the furnace go down (23F outside) & now I learn about their policies & customer relations efforts. Ill never make this mistake again (Trane equipment).

Unresolved Trane Corp Customer Complaint Case # **.We contacted the Local Authorized Installer the day after the installation to complain about the noise. On 3 September we sent an e-mail with a formal complaint about the noise. We have had the Local Authorized Installer visit twice and make adjustments to the furnace and adjust the fan speed (lower the speed). It is now set at the lowest possible speed, which as expected, does not adequately cool or heat our house — the system is on all day to achieve a comfortable level of 73 degrees. On 11 September, the 2nd visit, the 2 person service team agreed that the noise coming from the Furnace Blower was not normal and sounded like metal on metal. They reported that information to the Local Authorized Installer Company Headquarters. On 21 September, the Local Authorized Installer informed me that they had ordered a replacement Motor and Blower Wheel. On 23 September the Installer Company confirmed the parts ordered. Today, 29 September, the Local Authorized Installer stated that they would not install new/replacement parts because Trane Corp HQ would not give them credit for the parts or for a replacement system. Moreover, Trane Corp HQ told the Local Authorized Installer that the noise was normal for this model. We live in a split-level house. The Furnace is in the center of the lower level. The metallic sound travels straight up the intake vents and can be heard in all three bedrooms. I measured the sound on app Sound Meter with results of Decibel (DB) ratings of: Average 74 BD, Max 76 DB when the Air-Conditioner is on (Cooling) and Average 65BD, Max 69 DB with just the fan blowing.Unresolved Trane Corp Customer Complaint Case # **: I called Trane Corp customer service department 3 times to request for the Specifications on the Sound Ratings for this model. Trane Corp refused to honor the warranty to replace the Trane Furnace (Model# S8X1C100M5PSABA) (Serial# **) with — any other model that has an acceptable noise level. 2. Trane Corp refused to publicize the sound ratings of all of their products, even when specifically requested as a matter of public health.3. I called the company that the extended warranty is with and was told the tech had the night off and wouldnt be able to help me until after 2 pm the next day. What kind of service is that? I purchased Trane and paid more money because I wanted something that would last not break down 5 months later.

We had a new 3 1/2 ton heat pump unit installed in 2006. We paid $6035.00 for the heat pump and coil. We started having problems a year later. Every year after weve had problems. Graybeal Air Systems was the company we dealt with. After 5 years, right before the warranty ran out, they replaced the unit with a new one, but no longer honor a warranty. Every year since, we continue to have major repairs. Last year they diagnosed the expansion valve defective and wanted $900 to replace it. Were done. I contacted Graybeal and was told there was nothing more they could do but fix it as needed for the regular charge. I contacted Trane and was essentially told Sorry about your luck. We are again sitting in 90-degree heat with no AC. Im going to call another company to evaluate it but anticipate they suggest another unit. I guarantee it wont be a Trane. My father was in heating and air conditioning until his death and never treated customers this way.

I am a HVAC contractor having installed Trane and American standard units for many years. So 3.5 years ago (this was the year they switched over from R-22 to R410A refrigerant… R410A is a much higher pressure refrigerant!) we installed a new Trane 2 circuit 10 ton condenser and air handler to cool a server room located in a 4 story building. After 13 months of operation the unit sprung a leak.. Trane said 1 year warranty was over so we repaired the leak, no charge to the customer. 2 years later another leak in a different brazing joint. 3 years later two more leaks on separate circuits and again on different brazing joints.. 3.5 years another leak… Finally customer had enough of their servers shutting down in emergency mode causing damage and customer loss.. We lost complete trust in the ability of this unit to hold a refrigerant charge. I stepped in again and installed a complete new condensing unit, crane rental, spot cooler rentals and all…. Thousands of dollars later I demanded Trane reimburse the cost of the new condenser and I would handle all other cost and rentals, they declined! The 10 ton Lemon is stored in the back of my shop at the moment (in case I need it for proof). Needless to say I have ended all sales of Trane and American Standard.

I was a Trane dealer in the new home market. Profit on these jobs are minimal and are eaten up by problems with equipment warranty. I didnt have many problems with the R-22, 13 seer equipment. When I moved to R410a, we had several expansion valve failures. I had to eat the cost of replacing the part, which was mileage, travel time and labor. When my builder pushed me to sell the 15 seer Tranes with 410a refrigerant, hell broke loose. These indoor coils are very thin and are highly susceptible to formicary corrosion from drywall, carpet and various new home products. Trane refused to acknowledge the problem and I replaced $28,000 worth of evaporator coils in 2012. I had to jump through hoops to prove the leaks existed in order to receive a warranty coil and was unable to get any assistance from Trane to recoup my expense to make things right with the customer. These coils would be a little over a year old typically, just out of labor warranty. Now most customers laughed at buying the extended labor warranty at installation and I could have charged for the labor to replace the coil. However, I dont have the mind of large corporations, so I would eat the cost to make it right by the customer. Trane quietly tried treating the coils to resolve the issue. Now they dont leak. Now they stink. When I walked from Trane, I was being called out a lot on coils that would run you out of the house with dirty sock syndrome. This is a problem that requires extensive work to remedy the problem. I had enough and walked away from Trane. Keep in mind this is in new modular homes. I cant say I had the same issues in older homes. Buy the extended warranty if you buy Trane. Labor costs of $900 to replace a coil or expansion valve are true when you think about everything that must be accomplished to accomplish the job. A variable speed motor or motor end change is several hundred dollars as well. One repair justifies a warranty and the annual service check cost. Remember that the guy fixing your unit isnt the guy who drove to Mexico and built it. It costs a lot of money to drive that mobile shop up and down the road to your house. The heat pump in your backyard works harder than anything you own. Take care of it. Your elected government/party makes no difference, has dictated units to meet high efficiency standards. The units are more sophisticated than ever and costs are going up a lot faster than your pay raise. Be careful of the HVAC company you call to service your unit. Parts and equipment sales are the goal of a good number of companies — large or small. If you price shop for cheap, then you are cheap and get what you deserve. Now is the time to ask your co-workers and neighbors who they recommend, not when you are broken down, looking online for someone you know nothing about. If you find a company that treats you well, shout it from the rooftop. You may save a neighbor some anguish.

September 24, 2011, we purchased the entire Trane Duel Fuel System from McCrea Heating and Air Conditioning Service of Virginia for $10,000. This included a variable speed 2-stage furnace, top-of-the-line Trane heat pump, new coils, and a whole house humidifier. The system worked for a year. In September 2012, we started to get error messages on the thermostat. Since calling McCrea to fix this system, they have been here seven (7) times. The problems were no outdoor temperature reading, the system not being able to switch from heat pump to furnace when the temperature dropped below 35 degrees, and the humidifier stopped working. Most of these issues are related to a defective relay panel, which Trane apparently doesn’t keep in stock, or they break quite often and they can’t keep them in stock. The system still does not work as advertised and has not worked correctly for five (5) months. I do have a service contract with McCrea, and all repairs have been under warranty, but the system still doesn’t work correctly.

We purchased an American Standard/Trane HVAC unit in 2012 with a 5 year war
We purchased an American Standard/Trane HVAC unit in 2012 with a 5 year warranty. When they installed our furnace in 2012 they also installed the air conditioning coils but the outdoor unit was not installed until a year later. Therefore, the air conditioning coils were not in use until that time. Our AC failed less than 5 years later and the cause was the air conditioning coils. Not only were we without air conditioning during a record heat wave, we had to pay nearly 1200 in repairs. I have had a very bad experience with the Customer Escalation Department at Trane. They told me that even though the unit was clearly not in use for 5 years, they could not and would not provide any compensation for our costs. We chose American Standard because we thought we were purchasing from a good company who would stand behind their product. We were so wrong!
