Instructions to resolve Company Of Heroes 2 Sync-Error for Proton (Tested on 5.0-10 and 6.3-2)

Based on original solution by @Cytomax55 in the same thread.
Edit Feb 2023: this may also work for CoH3 (the paths are different of course). I haven’t tested this for CoH 3 yet and hope either Proton / Relic will make this fix unnecessary.

- You may want to disable cloud-sync for CoH2 on steam as it can cause issues. Thanks @Commando-Brando
- Open your terminal, and run*:
curl https://gist.githubusercontent.com/TechT10n/79b853003f2e9841a18e8b6decd0fd3e/raw/coh2_multiplayer_fix.sh | bash
If this doesn’t work (because for example your Steam path is different from the default), you may have to copy the script from that link and alter the part where the path is specified, and then run it locally (see also this comment).
If that still doesn’t work for some reason, you can follow the manual steps below:
*Note that this runs a remote shell script directly; it is always a good idea to check the script’s contents before running it (just open the URL to the gist in a browser) to make sure it doesn’t do anything weird. I don’t have any malicious intent and I have no reason to think TechT10n has either, but it is good practice regardless.
Fallback instructions to perform the workaround manually
Note: some users have reported that reinstalling and clearing the Steam cache is unnecessary; you can try to skip step 1 to 4 and start at step 5, but your mileage may vary.
Additionally, this fix does not always seem to work; I have no clue as to why it does work for some and doesn’t for others, or why it seems to stop working sometimes even with the same system/config. It should be deterministic 🤷♂️.

Uninstall/delete CoH2:
- (1a) Uninstall CoH 2 on steam.
- (1b) Delete remaining files here:
rm -rf "~/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Company of Heroes 2" - (1c) Delete compatibility data for CoH2:
rm -rf ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/231430/

Clear download cache in Steam -> settings -> «downloads» tab (requires Steam login afterwards;
⚠️make sure you know your Steam credentials beforehand!⚠️. -
Reinstall CoH2 on Steam.

Launch CoH 2 -> at this stage game would still give ‘Sync Error’ in multiplayer games either immediately
after loading the map or when first enemy is encountered with proton 5.0-10, 5.13-6, 6.3-6, experimental,
6.14-GE-2. -
Download vc_redist.x64.exe
at ✅https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=48145from the microsoft website.
Note that
another link, namely ❌https://aka.ms/vs/16/release/vc_redist.x64.exedid NOT WORK, as it was
missing the
required DLL at the time this report was submitted. -
make separate directory to extract
vc_redist.x64.exeto. E.g.mkdir /tmp/vcredist && cp /PATH/TO/DOWNLOAD/vc_redist.x64.exe /tmp/vcredist/vc_redist.x64.exe. -
cd to the download directory and extract
vc_redist.x64.exeusingcabextractto the directory you
chose as such:cabextract vc_redist.x64.exe -d /tmp/vcredist. If this did not result inucrtbase.dllbeing extracted, use cabextract again to extracta10specifically. -
Copy or move ONLY
ucrtbase.dll
to~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/231430/pfx/drive_c/windows/system32/(cp /tmp/vcredist/ucrtbase.dll ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/231430/pfx/drive_c/windows/system32/)

Launch Company of Heroes 2 in Steam using Proton 5.0-10. I have only played 1 match, but given that the
sync-error would occur immediately or on the first enemy sighting before, I suspect this resolved the
sync-error issue. Not yet tested on 6.3-2.
Another note: tested on Steam native client, Manjaro w/ kernel 5.10.59

Макс, На сайте разработчики писали очистить кэш браузера Стима. После этого проблема исчезает. Лезешь в настройки, находишь вкладку браузер. Там две кнопки по очистке, после перезагружаешь стим.

1. Открываем: «защитник Windows».
2. Открываем: «Защита от вирусов и угроз».
3. Листаем в низ, находим «защита программ-шантажистов».
4. Открываем «Управление защиты программ-шантажистов».
5.Далее открываем: «Разрешить работу приложения через контролируемый доступ к папкам».
6. Нажимаем на » + Добавление разрешенного приложения».

Открываем SteamsteamappscommonCompany of Heroes 2CoH2Movies
Удаляем эти файлы.
У вас пропадет флаг на заднем фоне, но пропадут лаги в меню.
Заходите в панель управления
Далее «Язык и региональные стандарты»
Нажимаете вкладку «Языки и клавиатуры»
После чего ставите язык ввода по умолчанию на английский и проблема решается.
Больше идет как костыль. Но проблема пропадает. После изменения у вас по умолчанию будет стоять английский язык.

Ошибки загрузки/обновления
Проверьте стабильность подключения к интернету, а также скорость загрузки. При слишком высоком пинге или низкой пропускной способности обновление может выдавать ошибки.
Если магазин или лончер Company of Heroes не завершает обновления или выдает ошибки, то переустановите саму программу. При этом все скачанные вами игры сохранятся.
Запустите проверку целостности данных игры.
Проверьте наличие свободного места на том диске, на котором установлена игра, а также на диске с операционной системой. И в том и в другом случае должно быть свободно места не меньше, чем занимает игра на текущий момент. В идеале всегда иметь запас около 100Гб.

Дополнение к игре Company of Heroes
Игра перестала запускаться.
О: Виной тому могут быть моды установленные для основной игры. Рекомендуется полная переустановка как основной игры, так и дополнения.
Моды не работают.
О: Не все моды для Company of Heroes совместимы с дополнениями. Необходимо заменить часть модификаций на другие версии. Найти их можно в файлах по игре. Задать вопрос о совместимости тех или иных модов с дополнением можно на форуме.

Vladimir, на пиратку любой мод должен пойти и тем более БК и EF.
Vladimir, да, 2.602. 2.700 лучше не скачивать пиратскую, т.к. криво работает иногда.
Владимир, можно на обе перечисленные выше поставить, но я рекомендую именно на 2.602. Я много раз слышал проблемы с версией 2.700 у людей, да и у меня тоже самого с ней проблемы были, когда моды некоторые ставил на неё.
куда ставить сам патч? в папку с игрой или в папку с названием мода?
Steam версия, в корневой папке игры Relicchoh имеется но не может найти.
Dmitry, ты наверное неправильно установил мод. Проверь чтобы файлы .module от Блицкрига находились в корне, а сама папка с модом не находилась в другой.

Игра не запускается

Игра вылетает на рабочий стол без ошибок.
О: Скорее всего проблема в поврежденных файлах игры. В подобном случае рекомендуется переустановить игру, предварительно скопировав все сохранения. В случае если игра загружалась из официального магазина за сохранность прогресса можно не переживать.
Company of Heroes не работает на консоли.
О: Обновите ПО до актуальной версии, а так же проверьте стабильность подключения к интернету. Если полное обновление прошивки консоли и самой игры не решило проблему, то стоит заново загрузить игру, предварительно удалив с диска.
Ошибка 0xc000007b.
О: Есть два пути решения.
Первый — полная переустановка игры. В ряде случаев это устраняет проблему.
Второй состоит из двух этапов:
Ошибка 0xc0000142.
О: Чаще всего данная ошибка возникает из-за наличия кириллицы (русских букв) в одном из путей, по которым игра хранит свои файлы. Это может быть имя пользователя или сама папка в которой находится игра. Решением будет установка игры в другую папку, название которой написано английскими буквами или смена имени пользователя.
Ошибка 0xc0000906.
О: Данная ошибка связана с блокировкой одного или нескольких файлов игры антивирусом или “Защитником Windows”. Для её устранения необходимо добавить всю папку игры в исключени. Для каждого антивируса эта процедура индивидуально и следует обратиться к его справочной системе. Стоит отметить, что вы делаете это на свой страх и риск. Все мы любим репаки, но если вас часто мучает данная ошибка — стоит задуматься о покупке игр. Пусть даже и по скидкам, о которых можно узнать из новостей на нашем сайте.
Отсутствует msvcp 140.dll/msvcp 120.dll/msvcp 110.dll/msvcp 100.dll
О: Ошибка возникает в случае отсутствия на компьютере корректной версии пакета Microsoft Visual C++, в который и входит msvcp 140.dll (и подобные ему). Решением будет установка нужной версии пакета.
- Нажимаем на Windows + R;
- Вводим команду“regsvrЗ2 msvcp140.dll”(без кавычек);
- Нажимаем “ОК”;
- Перезагружаем компьютер.
Ошибка 0xc0000009a/0xc0000009b/0xc0000009f и другие
О: Все ошибки начинающиеся с индекса 0xc0000009 (например 0xc0000009a, где на месте “а” может находиться любая буква или цифра) можно отнести к одному семейству. Подобные ошибки являются следствием проблем с оперативной памятью или файлом подкачки.
Перед началом выполнения следующих действий настоятельно рекомендуем отключить часть фоновых процессов и сторонних программ, после чего повторно попробовать запустить Company of Heroes .
Увеличиваем размер файла подкачки:
- Клик правой кнопкой на значку компьютера, а далее: «Дополнительные параметры системы» — «Дополнительно» — «Быстродействие» — «Дополнительно» — «Виртуальная память» — «Изменить».
- Выбираем один диск, задаем одинаковый размер.
- Перезагружаемся.
Размер файла подкачки должен быть кратен 1024. Объём зависит от свободного места на выбранном локальном диске. Рекомендуем установить его равным объему ОЗУ.
Если ошибка 0xc0000009а сохранилась, необходимо проверить вашу оперативную память. Для этого нужно воспользоваться функциями таких программ как MemTest86, Acronis, Everest.

I’ve literally had this three games in a row. I’ve verified games files. what is going on. it really sucks when I sink half an hour into a game and I’m disconnected for no discernable reason…
Yeah so i have 800+ hours on diz great game. I reformated my PC some time ago and ever since then it wont launch !!?! im so god damn frustrated ..been trying/looking at every post i could find about this prop — but NOTHING helped D: plz…haalp

Did you change your OS to windows 10? Some players reported that they face something similar aftar windows 10 last update. On the other hand the report suggest you use windows 7 but it is still worth asking becouse it may be wrong.
Also, you can try to validate games cache via steam or reinstalling it. It solves many problems with steam games. The .lua file that fails to load may be corrupted.
Prompt it to launch in windowed mode via steam. See if that fixes the issue. If so, then a verify of the game cache will most likely fix the issue..

There has been a couple of issues with this in COH2s history. 1st was anti virus software was not allowing COH2 to run and the second was g-sync crashing the game on start up. You can try disabling your anti virus and see if that works or disable g-sync if your monitor supports it.
@ Mongal — Thanks man i really apreciate it ! to my letdown no fix yet. I tried closing my Anti-virus — no help. And this G-sync thing your talking about..hmm..Im using an older Samsung Syncmaster P2450 so i dont think it supports g-sync.

A couple of days ago my pc didn’t want to start up coh2 bcs i said i had to start up steam, while i was literally talking with somebody on steam. Then i kept clicking on the coh2 icon and i got a bugsplat while starting up as well.
I just verified my game cache and it worked again. Did you try this yet, even though it’s a pretty basic solution? ^^

It could be a driver update issue. Try going back to an earlier version of your driver (video card). It helped a lot with bugs with coh2 in the past for me (i have amd).

Remove this folder «C:\yourpcname\Unkown\Documents\My Games\Company of Heroes 2» and then start COH2 with administration rights.
As you can see in your error logs it fails to load «15:59:34.90 SYSTEMCONFIG — Failed to load configuration from ‘userdata:configuration_system.lua’.»
By removing the folder I just stated before it will create a new file for this.

Try with divers: You just go to http://www.nvidia.pl/Download/Find.aspx and find some older one than you already have. Try a few of them if it doesnt work.

You can try to create a new configuration_user.lua file
Just open notepad and copy paste everything from the spoiler below
Now save this file as «configuration_user.lua» located at «C:\Users\yourpc\Documents\My Games\Company of Heroes 2»
Be sure the overwrite the existing file if there is any.

I am talking about Company of Heroes 2 and after its prolonged beta phase, the full game has finally been released. If you have played the original Company of Heroes, I don’t think that you would want to miss its second iteration.
Although, Relic Entertainment has been hard at work to bring a stable experience to the community at launch but big games tend to be affected by minor issues due to hardware and software diversity in the modern age.
If you are experiencing any issues like bugs, errors or crashes and looking for a solution, you have landed on the right place. You can browse through the following listing and search for the concerned possible solution.
#1 Company of Heroes 2 SLI/Crossfire Issues
The games seems to be optimized for single GPU working. So, if you are using a SLI/Crossfire, you should try disabling it and run the game using single GPU. This should fix the frame rate issues for you.
Probably, Relic will come up with a fix later on.
#2 Company of Heroes 2 – Full Screen Fix
If you haven’t been able to run the game in full screen properly, make sure that you aren’t running applications like Teamviewer in the background. If you still want to keep it running while playing the game, you can choose to turn off the share button.
#3 Company of Heroes – Compatibility Error on Launch Fix
Steam sometimes tend to run in the compatibility mode even if you don’t want it to. However, if you are looking for a fix, you can refer to this link for the solution.
#4 Company of Heroes 2 – Pre-Load Issues
If you have pre-loaded the game and the game is out in your region but still you are unable to launch it then, you should restart your Steam. Restarting the client should fix the issue for you.

#6 Company of Heroes 2 – Sound Bug Fix
If you are using language other than English, there is possibility that you may experience weird vehicle sounds. As a temporary fix, you should switch the language to English.

#7 Company of Heroes 2 – Crash Report #160986 Fix
If you are experiencing this crash, make sure that you are using the latest version of the GPU drivers even if the game was running fine in beta.
#8 Company of Heroes 2 – Black Screen Fix
If you are using the latest version of the drivers and still getting a black screen, you should try running the game as administrator.
#9 Company of Heroes 2 – Disk Installation Problem
If you own a retail disc and aren’t able to install it from the physical media as it starts downloading using Steam then, you should disable the internet, quit Steam and install it.
After installation, you will have to download the latest patch to play the game anyway.
#10 Company of Heroes 2 – Game Crashes in Mission 2
Well, if your game is being crashed during the campaign randomly, you should try playing it again after restarting Steam. If the game still crashes, verify the integrity of your game files.
