Even if you properly maintain your WaveRunner, problems can still occur. Malfunctions are always a big hassle, especially if you are on an offshore ride!
If your WaveRunner won’t start or has other issues, you can try to troubleshoot the problem yourself.
But if you can’t solve the problem, you will have to read the fault codes to learn more about the fault.
For your convenience, we at JetDrift have compiled the official Yamaha WaveRunner fault codes into this post, which also explains how to read them!
How to Read Yamaha WaveRunner Fault Codes
You can read the Yamaha WaveRunner fault codes with a Marine Engine Diagnostic System (MEDS) or CandooPro, which are special softwares designed for troubleshooting WaveRunners and other marine engines. You just have to connect the computer to the engine with the diagnostic cable that comes with the software. If you don’t want to invest in this software, you will have to take your WaveRunner to a dealership or service shop to read the fault codes.

This post will cover the complete Yamaha Waverunner fault code list so you can troubleshoot your jet-ski. We are continuing to add to this list as new wave runners come onto the market with updated codes.
This fault code list is for the Yamaha Waverunner VXS VX1800 but will cover most Waverunner models on the market as the codes are the same or similar.
The Yamaha Waverunner will only give you the ability to read one code at a time. The following plug-in scanning tools can help you diagnose in more detail the problem with your Waverunner. I use the CandooPro myself and it is an amazing piece of hardware that supports Yamaha, and Sea-doo Jet-skis.
These 3 code reading tools will give you the ability to read real-time data about your Yamaha Waverunner. They are perfect to reset fault codes and will enable you to fault find quickly. Well worth the investment if you do your own servicing and maintenance.
You can check the codes on a Yamaha WaveRunner by starting the engine and viewing the error code displayed on the display. You can also check previous error codes by pressing and holding the “Hour/Volt select” button for 8 seconds with the engine running.
On FX cruiser and high output Waverunners simultaneously press the two buttons “Hour/Volt & Speed/RPM” for 8 seconds. You can then check the error code indicated on the multifunction meter.

The engine will not start | Check the Crank Position Sensor for correct resistance, continuity of the wires, and any short circuits. Replace sensor. |
15 | Incorrect Engine Temperature Sensor Signal |
Trolling speed is unstable | Check the engine temperature sensor for correct resistance, continuity, or short circuit. Check the voltage to the engine sensor. |
17 | Knock Sensor | Trolling speed is unstable | Check the green lead to the knock sensor for continuity. Measure the sensor resistance. |
18 | Incorrect Throttle Position Sensor Signal |
Check the Throttle Position Sensor Signal for correct resistance, continuity of the wires, and any short circuits. Replace sensor. | |
19 | Incorrect Battery Voltage |
Trouble starting or stator not charging the battery. | Check the voltage of the battery, stator output, rectifier, and fuses. The charging voltage should be 13.6v or above. Replace battery. |

1. You first need to correct the problem that is causing the fault code to show up.
2. Start the Yamaha Waverunner up again and it will beep but won’t show a code (to get the code simply turn it off and it will be displayed, if not showing a code then the problem is gone) this will let know the CPU all is good.
3. You then need to turn it off, and wait 60sec. After the display goes blank and then the check engine light should be gone.
If the engine check warning light stays on, disconnect the battery and touch the battery’s positive and negative terminals together. This will drain any power that may be stored in the ECU. This has reset the Waverunner warning engine light for me. Pressing the engine start button with the 12v battery may also clear the codes and warning light. Do it at your own risk.
If your starter motor does not operate and you get no fault codes check the following items.
I am constantly adding to this mega Yamaha Waverunner fault code list. If you discover any new error codes for your Jet-ski let me know and I will add them to the list.

Доброго времени суток! Гидрик Yamaha VX1100 2011 года! На воде периодичес и начинает пищать, загорается красная лампа и загорается ЧЕК! Сбрасываешь ошибка исчезает, потом с определенной периодичнгстью выскакивает снова. На скорость и работу двигателя не сказывается. Вопрос? Может подскажете, кто может почитать ошибки с подключением компа, обзвонил кучу не дилоерских сервисов, ни кто не может помочь, все отсылают к диллерам! В одном месте сказали что при помощи танцев с бубнами, как то можно вывести ошиб и на прибоку??? Может знает кто? Надо разобраться на какую ошибку загорается ЧЕК! |

Всем привет. На днях стал счастливым обладателем Yamaha vx 1100, 2009г.в.. После покатушки, заморгал чек энжн) , никаких изменений в работе ДВС нет, самодиагностика показала ошибку 55. Кто сталкивался? Что это за ошибка? Как лечить? |
