I am getting occasional BSoD with stop code 0xA0000006 as soon as I start up my computer. Happens approximately every 4th time I turn on my computer from cold. Didn’t ever happen with a restart or while running. I have been using this PC for a week now.

Relevant specs:

  • Windows 10 Education version 1909
  • Motherboard: Gigabyte Aorus x570 I Pro Wifi
    • Bios version: F12e (current latest)
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600
    • Boost clocks disabled in BIOS to keep things silent
  • Graphics Card: Sapphire Pulse RX 5700 XT
    • Driver version: 27.20.1000.17016 (as reported by DxDiag)
    • I have no idea how to find out the Adrenalin version
  • RAM: Crucial Ballistix 2×16 GB BLS2K16G4D32AESC
    • Rated 3200 MHz
    • By default it was running at 2400 MHz
    • I enabled the default XMP profile via BIOS, and it is running at 3200 MHz now
  • Storage: Samsung 970 Evo M.2 SSD
  • PSU: 850W 80+ Platinum

This MB has Wifi+BT module built in, and the Bluetooth is occasionally cutting out my mouse’s connection while gaming. I am telling this as it might be related.

I have a MEMORY.DMP file in C:\Windows\ but it is HUGE at 1.48 GB. Please tell me if I should upload this one, though it may take a while…

I also have 5 minidumps in C:\Windows\minidump\, each 2-4 MB. The latest of them can be found here: https://1drv.ms/u/s!AjOgrgBJLmnl5AanHYL-Upl6Ur0c?e=9QoxCu

I suspect the graphics card the most, as I had heard that people are having issues with it. Luckily, I do not have the «fan stuck at 100%» problem, nor «BSoD while gaming», although I am yet to try it on heavy gaming loads.

I would be very happy if we could solve this without introducing further errors.

that stop code isnt even listed in microsoft papers
try running sfc /scannow in CMD

as for that dmp file
BSOD happened due to amdgrfxg.sys file
that would be AMD gpu drivers

feel free to use DDU and install some older driver

btw your OS build number is 18362, that could be also another cause when u mix old windows with never drivers, compatibility issues may happen

  • #3

Thank you for the response!

I ran sfc /scannow
It claimed to have fixed some errors that existed, but I have never seen it saying anything else as it finished. The output log is here: https://1drv.ms/u/s!AjOgrgBJLmnl5Ar2bUkHlySq9h0X?e=a6WbvQ

I suspect that my graphics drivers are already old. When I tried Auto-Detect and Install on AMD’s support website for RX 5700 XT, it was already suggesting me to update my drivers. I don’t want to do it until I hear strongly positive reviews about the drivers, since I’ve heard many horror stories about the past versions. A simple BSoD (which I hope does not deal any damage to the hardware) only during cold boot and only 25% of the time, is actually manageable.

Isn’t my Windows the latest version publicly available? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_10_version_history#Rings

I am looking forward to 2004 release for the WSL2, but I don’t think it is even rumored to release any soon.

That’s what mine is! I thought My original post says «1909» for my Windows 10 version. Where did you get that mine is 18362?

A screenshot from the Windows 10 Settings > System > About section, showing that my OS version and build are 1909 and 18363.752:

GYegvhr.png

I have just checked the minidump myself using WinDbg, and have seen 18362 multiple times. Why is there such a dispute?

minidump was reporting 18362
Windows 10 Kernel Version 18362 MP (12 procs) Free x64
Product: WinNt, suite: TerminalServer SingleUserTS
Built by: 18362.1.amd64fre.19h1_release.190318-1202

  • #7

Yes, but why? I mean, my Windows specifications say that it’s build 18363, so why is the dump saying it’s 18362?

I woke up this morning and started up my computer.
What is this!?
Please help.

if it is my GPU, my card is 9 months old and I’ve stressed tested it and it works fine.

Ok, whenever you get a BSoD, make sure that you copy minidump files somewhere, because it contains some important information about it’s causes.

0xa0000006 is a new code, I can see it showing up for people with AMD systems. Earliest record I find was pre Ryzen so might tie into Radeon drivers.

Try running ddu and either reinstall current drivers or use older ones — https://forums.tomshardware.com/faq…n-install-of-your-video-card-drivers.2402269/

This happened on my new fresh installed windows. I think it automatically installed the latest driver that I haven’t installed. I was using the driver before that where it seemed stable to me. I immediately uninstalled my driver through ddu and installed the driver before that.

the system by default creates a Memory.dmp, that is what op has.
you need to change the system settings to create the other dump types

At op, can you do the steps in 1st post here just in case you do get another BSOD — https://forums.tomshardware.com/thr…nclude-in-blue-screen-of-death-posts.3468965/

Hello,

I bought in france a MSI Alpha 15 laptop and got too frequently (once a week and sometimes more !) a BSOD with stopcode = 0xA0000006.
those BSOD appear randomly, for no reason:
* I got one when typing in word
* Got another while wathching a video
* got last one when launching opera after computer wakes up from standby.

I got a recurring one when i tried :
* to use windows 10 «reset» feature (to reinstall it from scratch)
* to install catalyst driver from the 2019 branch (i found out the hdmi audio driver provokes them)

Note:
* Windows 10 is up to date
* I force driver upgrade for nahimic (3) and catalyst (2020.2.1)
* I use this laptop the same way i did with my 12 years old laptop (toshiba satelite a500-14L)

If anyone has an idea on how to fix once for all those recurent bsod, i’m all hear.

Any upgraded device on the laptop?
Try to uninstall the graphics driver and install the one found on the MSI website. The AMD generic driver usually causes problems with the OEM products.

  • #4

«Any upgraded device on the laptop?»

No, everything is as provided by the reseller.
the only modification i did is to change the win10 familial licence to a pro one.

Using MSI provided driver might not be a valid & permantent solution for me as i need the real catalyst feature and not the crappy lite version from MS store. I hope MSI will publish soon an updated version of the graphic driver.

  • #5

For those who got the same issue, i think i found a solution (i mean i didn’t get one in last 48h, so let’s hope it’s the solution) :

I update all driver to latest version available from the manufacturer website (not msi, the real manufacturer of the driver: realtek for audio, nahimic, etc.)
For catalyst, i use 2020.2.1 version. It’s not a WHQL driver, but still.
From MSI’s driver/pilote/bios support page for that laptop (https://www.msi.com/Laptop/support/Alpha-15-A3DDK):
* Bios: I set the latest bios available (10c)
* Firmware (use google to find manual/guide as msi only provide one of them):
** I set the latest vbios (101 — for gpu). In my case, it seems it was already there.
** And ec firmware (104) as well.

Pro side :
* No more bsod (till now)

Con side :
* ec firmware: «Under AC mode, set the lowest cpu fan speed to 2700RPM(45%) except silent mode» which is a bit noisy.

Sadly last windows update and catalyst 2020.2.2 give me back that bsod…

update bios, ec, reset ec

install windows from usb

try 1903 maybe

  • #8

Sadly, already try all the solution:
* Reset this PC / windows 10 (1903) from usb : BSOD during install. I don’t know how people buying this laptop without OS do to get windows working. I hope next win 10 (2004) will fix that. Only MSI recovery feature give me back a working windows.
* EC firmware and bios are already up-to date. Msi didn’t provide a new since last month (that i’m aware of).

Note: haven’t got any new bsod yet since my last message here.

I have the same issue. Waiting for  MSI to fix it and publish a new driver.

  • #10

Today I tried to install the latest AMD driver for the 5500M(which came out on march 17th), but after the first restart it got BSOD with the same code. Did somebody find any solution since last time, because on the support page I didn’t find any new driver that could fix this issue? In 5 minutes, it restarted 3 times.

Did all three restarts have the same error code(0xA0000006)? In those five minutes, what step di you take and see the three errors?

Just bought this laptop and had the same bsod issue. I was getting bsod all the time.  Not during gaming but always when browsing and especially when on battery power.  Finally I uninstalled Dragon Center and no bsod for 2 days with a lot of use.  Fingers crossed.  BTW I updated all msi drivers and updated AMD Adrenalin from AMD website.

Which browser do you use? It is interesting that the removing the Dragon Center stops BSOD. What version of the Dragon Center was it in your system?
Before removing the Dragon Center, did you install or remove other software?
Or maybe it is the driver you updated that stop the BSOD?! As you also updated all the driver and the Adrenalin as well.?!?!
Mind share your Help Deks information?

Little update in my case at it seems i finally get rid of those unfamous bsod.

I give up AMD official and recommended drivers and use the old one provided by MSI.

But before doing that :
* EC firmware was updated (104)
* bios was updated as well (10e)

I download :
* AMD driver provided by MSI
* realtek audio driver & nahimic from nahimic website

I uninstall the followng apps :
* dragon center (2.0.28)
* realtek audio console
* nahimic

I uninstall realtek audio driver.
I use DDU to completely remove AMD driver.

I install all driver (GPU and sound) and reinstall the apps using MS store. Dragon center is now 2.0.38

So far, it seems fine to me.

Browser i use :
* Vivaldi (snapshot)
* Opera GX
Both are chromium based and are not correlated to the BSOD as i got them while computer was put in standby mode (with no app opened) or while typing a text file in word -graphical acceleration disabled).

I use Chrome and Explorer.  I updated all drivers first and still had the bsod issue, no change.  Current Adrenalin version is 20.4.1  Not sure what the Dragon Center version was but it was the latest available on MSI website, believe it actually redirected me to the Microsoft Store for download.  The last thing I did was uninstall Dragon Center and that finally stopped bsod, going on day 3.  I believe Dragon Center and Adrenalin don’t work well together as they both try to control system components as well as output system monitoring.  I prefer Adrenalin for most functions.  Dragon Center felt clunky.  The only thing I can’t do with Adrenalin on this machine is control fan speed but the default settings now without Dragon Center seem fine.  Quiet at idle but ramp right up during gaming.  FYI I am getting much better battery life now without Dragon Center installed as well.  I’ll report back if anything changes with stability.

amd drivers come all time ,,still update and works ,,

I do not know how here, but from dragon everything is better replaced by another application

So the BSOD came back.  Deleting Dragon Center did not solve the problem.  Running on battery power triggered the bsod and it happened 3 times within an hour.  I was OK when plugged in, at least for a few days.

So now I started over:
— Uninstall Adrenalin Software 20.4.1
— Run AMD Cleanup Utility
— Download and install AMD graphics driver from MSI website — 26.20.13031.1002(Package 19.30.31.01WHQL).  During custom install I was given the option to download and install the latest version of Adrenalin (20.4.1).  I did not do this.  I chose the option all the way to the left which was to only install the version that downloaded from MSI — 19.30.31.01.  Note that no Adrenalin software downloaded when I chose this option.  Only the graphics driver downloaded, again, 26.20.13031.1002.
— Installed Dragon Center 2.0.38.0.  Set User Scenario to Extreme Performance in Dragon Center.
— Set windows power profile to Ultimate Performance

Been using the laptop for a few hours both plugged in and on battery power without bsod.  I’ll report back if anything changes.

I’ll also note that removing Adrenalin 20.4.1 caused Red Dead Redemption 2 to start running like crap, around 15-20 fps.  Checked task manager and only the IGPU was working.  Played around for a long time trying to figure it out.  Finally I changed from Vulkin to DirectX in the in game graphics settings.  Game started running properly again using the DGPU.

Have about 12 hours using alpha 15 a3ddk since making the updates I described.  Ran down the battery 2 times and recharged during this time.  All this time I had tv streaming using Chrome and browsing using Microsoft Edge simultaneously.  I also played a few games from my Steam library.  So far no bsod.

I don’t think this older version of AMD drivers is optimized as well for games as a few of the games will occasionally stutter/freeze just for a half second.  It must be the AMD driver or lack of optimization from not using Adrenalin 2020 software.  It is not bad at all and not on all games, but noticeable.

This morning I also updated to latest EC firmware provided by MSI, 16U6EMS1.104.  I thought I did this before but I did it wrong and it didn’t update.  This time I did it right after reading how to do it on MSI website.  It worked.  Fans run faster when plugged in with this latest version.  No perceivable change to fan speed on battery power.

I’ll report back if anything changes.

I’m also getting the bsod error 0xa0000006 again any again for nothing. I had this before too then I performed the reset. Installed everything again and after some hours I got the bsod again.
I’m really getting irritated by this problem. There is a windows update pending that isn’t downloading. And I had to delete the MSI dragon center to stop the bsod from happening. It is calm right now but I need help on this problem.

Check my last 2 posts.  I have been bsod free since 4/12 after making these changes and laptop is extremely stable,  The key I believe is not updating to latest AMD drivers during VGA driver installation.
