What causes the 0x80200013 error?

Microsoft’s answer: BITS uses range header in HTTP requests to request parts of a file. If the server or proxy doesn’t understand Range requests and returns full file instead of the requested range, BITS puts the job in ERROR state. Apache 1.3 proxy is known to show this behavior if the requested file is already in the cache.

Answers

  • The current situation is that I’m running build 9860, when I was at home I had no problems at all :)

It must have been some proxy at my corporate network, I’ll forward this thread to the network guys!

  • I have the same problem. Maybe I should wait…

  • My error code is different.

  • After a little investigation I’ve found the following Eventlog (screenshot). If I look up the errorcode on
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc734599(v=WS.10).aspxit says «BITS uses range headers in HTTP requests to request parts of a file. If the server or proxy doesn’t
understand Range requests and returns the full file instead of the requested range, BITS puts the job into the ERROR state with BG_E_INSUFFICIENT_RANGE_SUPPORT error.»

Maybe it’s because I’m connected to the wifi at work? Will try again at home later today.

  • Hi Roel Janssens,

    What’s the situation now?

    0x80200013 means BG_E_INSUFFICIENT_RANGE_SUPPORT

If you are in corporation network, check proxy servers to ensure that they are configured correctly to support range requests.

From  most user’s feedback, there is no problem in downloading.

Hope you can get it done soon!

  • I have the same problem. Can you help me?

  • Downloading might work but installing can cause a whole herd of other problems.

It would be helpful if Microsoft would publish the list of error#, causes, and potential remedies. That would reduce guesswork, number of questions asked on these fora and increase efficiency of IT-staff in solving problems.

PC Settings does give number 0x80200013 but in Event viewer a different code is reported : 0x80246007

  • All might be related to the Bits service that Microsoft products use to download. The technology is severly flawed as ti requires support of http 1.0 range requests something that a corporate FW likely blocks.
