    Windows 2008 update error 80072EE5

Basically that error is caused by an incorrect url in the «Specify intranet Microsoft update services location» GPO, like in the thread above; a trailing space.

Telnet is built in you just need to enable it

Also check the resgitry settings to see if these server got the URL for your WSUS server

    I think it is here — HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate

Can you telnet from the problem 2012 servers to the port and IP of your WSUS server?

Also, from a quick search that error states that «The 0x80072ee5 error is caused by an invalid URL in the «Specify intranet Microsoft update services location» policy. While you may not have setup WSUS yet, apparently the policy configurations have told the clients that’s where they should get updates from — and the URL configured is invalid.»

Have you double checked the «Specify intranet Microsoft update services location» for these machines to make sure they are getting the correct WSUS url?

Not sure if I need to download telnet or not but it is not a feature available by default in Server 2012 at least not from the command line.

Also All of my other clients have to go to the same URL and they do not have a problem.  Just the 2012 client has this issue.  The settings are the same either way.  The URL is http://Servername:8530

ARRRGGGHHHH!!!!!  F me.  I could kick myself in the face.  I had the damn slashes the wrong way.  I had http:\\ not http:// .  Don’t ask me why that happened.  Must have just been out of it the day I set it up.  Thanks for all the help BSOD’D.

Edit: The sad part is I have been working on trying to resolve this issue on my own for a couple of hours now :(   I cannot believe I did that.

Someday, somewhere someone is going to write a parody about this issue.  It could go something like this.

We have the backslash, the frontslash and the pipe.

      Which one do I use?

      This is why I gripe.

Should the backward one be forward or the forward one be back?

      Or maybe it’s the pipe?

      These decisions make me crack.

Well, you get my drift.  I’ll be going back to work now!

    I think it is here — HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwarePoliciesMicrosoftWindowsWindowsUpdate

I had http:\ not http:// .
