Jam inside of machine

Please follow the steps below to solve the problem:

NOTE: Illustrations shown below are from representative product and may differ from your Brother machine.

  1. Open the front cover.

    Open the front cover

  2. Leave the machine turned on for 10 minutes to cool down.

After you have just used the machine, some internal parts of the machine will be extremely hot. When you open the front or back cover (back output tray) of the machine, DO NOT touch the shaded parts shown in the illustration. If you do this, you may burn yourself.

DO NOT touch the inside of the machine

  3. Slowly take out the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly. The jammed paper may be pulled out with the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly, or this may release the paper so you can pull it out of the inside of the machine.

    Take the drum nit out

    • We recommend that you put the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly on a piece of disposable paper or cloth in case you accidentally spill or scatter toner.
    • To prevent damage to the machine from static electricity, DO NOT touch the electrodes shown in the illustration.

      DO NOT touch the electrodes

  4. Push down the green lock lever and take the toner cartridge out of the drum unit. Clear the jammed paper if there is any inside the drum unit.

Puch down the green lock lever

    • Handle the toner cartridge carefully. If toner scatters on your hands or clothes, immediately wipe or wash it off with cold water.
    • To avoid print quality problems, DO NOT touch the shaded parts shown in the illustrations.

DO NOT touch the shaded parts

  5. Put the toner cartridge back into the drum unit until you hear it lock into place. If you put the cartridge in properly, the green lock lever will lift automatically.

    Put the toner cartridge back

  6. Do one of the following:

    • If you were able to remove the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly and the jammed paper, then go to STEP 12.
    • If you cannot remove the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly easily, do not use extra force. Instead, go to STEP 7.
  7. Lift the scanner cover.

    Lift the scanner cover

  8. Use both hands to carefully pull the jammed paper up and out of the output tray opening.

    Pull the jammed paper up

  9. Close the scanner cover.

  10. Do one of the following:

    • If you could pull the jammed paper out of the machine in STEP 7, go to STEP 13.
    • If you could not pull the jammed paper out of the output tray opening as shown
in STEP 7, take the paper tray completely out of the machine.

Take the paper tray out of the machine

  11. Pull the jammed paper out of the paper tray opening.

    Pull the jammed paper out

  12. Put the paper tray back in the machine.

  13. Put the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly back in the machine.

Control-panel message types

The control-panel messages and error code entries indicate the current product status or situations that might require action.

Note:

The Error Information Report provides more detailed information on the error and does not appear on the control-panel display.

To print and view the Error Information Report perform the following:

  • Enter Tech Mode.

  • Select Information T

  • Select Report

  • Select Error Information

  • Select Print?

  • Then touchYes

A control-panel message displays temporarily and might require the user to acknowledge the message by touching the OK button to resume printing or by touching the Stop button to cancel the job. With certain messages, the job might not finish printing or the print quality might be affected.
If the message is related to printing and the auto-continue feature is on, the product will attempt to resume printing after
the message has appeared for 10 seconds without acknowledgment.

For some messages, restarting the product might fix the problem. If a critical error persists, the product might require service.

Error codes

Error codes and control-panel messages display on the printer control panel to indicate the current printer status or situations
that might require action. Error codes are numerical, or alphanumerical, and have a set structure with six characters (example:
A1-xxxx).

  • The first two characters are numeric and represent the system component that is causing the error. For example, in error code
    A1-1211, A1 = Motor for these printers.

  • The remaining four digits further define the error.

The CPMD is a comprehensive list of error codes, diagnostic and troubleshooting steps to clear or resolve the error, and other
helpful information such as service mode pins and part numbers.

The CPMD is continually updated and republished with the latest information for the following error codes.

1) Pickup Jam (M1-1010) :2
2 ) Jam inside of machine (M2-1110): 3

(Captain Universal) ?

Troubleshooting Checklist

Check: Check the power cord and the power switch.

Solution: Check the power source by plugging into another outlet.

Check: Make sure that the On Line/Error LED is on.

Solution: In the Ready mode, the On Line/Error LED lights green. If the On Line/Error LED lights red or blinks.

Check: Press and hold the Cancel button to print a demo page.

Solution:

  1. If a demo page does not print, check the paper supply in the input tray.
  2. If the paper jams in the printer, go to “Clearing Paper Jams”

Check: Print a short document from a software application to verify that the computer and printer are connected and are communicating correctly.

Solution:

  1. If the page does not print, check the cable connection between the printer and the computer.
  2. Check the print queue or print spooler to see if the printer has been paused.
  3. Check the software application to ensure you are using the proper printer driver and communication port.

Problem: The Printer does not print

Solution:

  1. The printer is not receiving power. Check the power cord connections. Check the power switch and the power source.
  2. The printer is not selected as the default printer. Select Samsung ML-1710 Series in the Printer folder in Windows as your default printer
  3. Check the printer for the following: • The printer cover is not closed. • Paper is jammed. • No paper is loaded. • The toner cartridge is not installed. If a printer system error occurs, contact your service representative.
  4. The printer may be in Manual Feed mode. Add paper to the manual feeder and press the Cancel button on the printer’s control panel to begin printing.
  5. The connection cable between the computer and the printer is not connected properly. Disconnect the printer cable and reconnect it.
  6. The connection cable between the computer and the printer is defective. If possible, attach the cable to another computer that is working properly and print a job. You can also try using a different printer cable.
  7. The port setting is incorrect. Check the Windows printer setting to make sure that the print job is sent to the correct port (for example, LTP1). If the computer has more than one port, make sure that the printer is attached to the correct one.
  8. The printer may be configured incorrectly. Check the printer properties to ensure that all print settings are correct.
  9. The printer driver may be incorrectly installed. Reinstall the printer driver.
