1. Update Your Graphics Drivers
When Diablo II: Resurrected crashes or locks up, one of the first things you should do is to update your graphics card driver since an up-to-date graphics driver always ensures the best gaming performance and fewer bugs.
To update your display card driver, here’s what you can do (please note that the following screenshots are taken on Windows 11, but the instructions work on Windows 10 as well):
- On your keyboard, press the Windows key and X at the same time, select Device Manager.
- Double-click to expand the category Display adapters. Then right-click your graphic card driver and click Update driver (the name of the graphics card can be different on your computer).
- Then click Search automatically for updated driver software.
- Wait for Windows to find the latest driver available for you.
- When the driver update is done, restart your computer for the change to take effect.
- Then check and see if the problem is fixed.

2. Update Your Operating System
An outdated operating system can also cause compatibility issues that make your Diablo II: Resurrected crash. Here’s how you can update it:
- On your keyboard, press the Windows key and I at the same time to open Windows Settings. Then click Update & Security.

After the installation of HWMonitor, start and run it while you play Diablo II: Resurrected until the crashing problem occurs. Then see how high the temperatures reach in HWMonitor.
If your CPU goes above 60 degrees Celsius or your video card (GPU) goes above 80 degrees Celsius, then you should consider overheating as the main cause of the crashing issue for your Diablo II: Resurrected.
Here are some things you can do to lower the hardware component temperatures or even prevent overheating:
- Turn off overclocking if you have had it enabled by some third-party software. Afterward, restart your computer and launch the Diablo II: Resurrected to see if it works.
- If you’ve never enabled overclocking, then check if your computer has a buildup of dust inside, which can also cause overheating issues. If so, please have it cleaned by a certified technician.
- Make sure you’re playing on a solid and flat surface if you are using a laptop. Soft or uneven surfaces can block the laptop air vents and reduce airflow so that the system runs at a higher temperature.
- A cool environment can help you prevent overheating as well.
5. Run Diablo II: Resurrected as An Administrator

- Navigate to Diablo II: Resurrected installation folder.
- Right-click the Diablo II: Resurrected executable (.exe) file, then click the option Properties.

6. Reset Your Video Card Driver Settings

6.1 For AMD users

- Open the Battle.net desktop app, select the icon of Diablo II: Resurrected, select the gear icon next to the Play button, then select Uninstall.
- To reinstall, select Install from the game tab.
In rare situations, you may need to uninstall the game manually. To do so:
- On your keyboard, press the Windows + R key simultaneously to open Control Panel.
- Click Programs and Features.
- Find the game icon of Diablo II: Resurrected and right-click it, then select Uninstall.
- Alternatively, you can manually uninstall the game if it is not listed under Uninstall or Change a Program by deleting the game folder from the location where it was installed.
- In case of any related game files remaining on your computer after uninstalling, please search for them through the locations given below and then delete them completely.
