Device setup manager

  • The reader’s digest version of the saga is I received a Dell Vostro 460 with a wiped disk emitting beep code when turned on.  After resolving the marginal power supply with a replacement, I installed Windows 7 but as soon as I would launch IE the system
would freeze.  All of the BIOS & device drivers are current.  I tried upgrading to Windows 8 but kept getting the black screen right after the install process finished installing the devices. I had to resort to a clean install.  Having successfully
been able to a get to the desktop, every time I launched IE my system freezes.  I installed a different browser and can research the event log errors.  As the system freezes, I see warning log entries with event id 123
    entries:

Event 123 — The DSM service was delayed by nn seconds for a driver query/download/install on device  ‘ACPI\GENUINEINTEL_-_INTEL64_FAMILY_6_MODEL_42_-_________INTEL(R)_CORE(TM)_I7-2600_CPU_@_3.40GHZ\_8’

Event 123 — The DSM service was delayed by 517 seconds for a driver query/download/install on device ‘PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1C3A&SUBSYS_04AB1028&REV_04\3&11583659&0&B0’

Event 123 — The DSM service was delayed by 106 seconds for a driver query/download/install on device ‘PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0100&SUBSYS_04AB1028&REV_09\3&11583659&0&00’

Event 123 — The DSM service was delayed by 155 seconds for a driver query/download/install on device ‘PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0423&SUBSYS_049410DE&REV_A1\4&2209AF9F&0&0008’

There are more but these warnings are stacked in groups of two or three then the error & critical entries indicating I did a hard reboot.  Anything you can offer will be very much appreciated.

when a new device is connected to your computer, the plug and play will detect the device and try to install a driver.
I think the log indicates that windows went out and downloaded a driver for you.
I would think that if could not find a valid driver, or the driver install failed, it would just do it again on each boot of the system.
(or if you go into control panel and select scan for hardware changes)

usb device o4a9 is assigned to Canon
I would think you have a canon camera connected to your machine and it is looking for a usb driver. or maybe a canon camera storage reader?
you might look to see if canon has a driver you can put on your machine if you know what the device is. It could be any cannon product connected via USB

DeviceSetupManager.dll.
DeviceSetupManager.dll.
C:\Windows\System32\DeviceSetupManager.dll.
DeviceSetupManager.dll.
Windows.
DeviceSetupManager.dll.
DeviceSetupManager.dll.

Is this just a pause whilst an update is in progress or is it more serious?

This is a driver issue being reported by the Device Setup Manager service.

It looks like TERMINPUT_BUS\UMB\2&2C22BCC9&0&SESSION8MOUSE0 is referring to a UMBus Root Bus Enumerator device — a mouse presumably.

Open Device Manager as an administrative user and find the UMBus Root Bus Enumerator under the System devices, right-click this item and choose ‘update drivers’ and see if it will download an update for the device. If it does, try rebooting your computer to see if the event ID persists.

  • In Windows 10 Version 1803, I am consistently getting Device Setup Manager Admin Event Log 200, 201, and 202 warnings.  A group of 4 warnings (202, 200, 202, 201)
will immediately follow the last 4.  I’m not sure when these warnings started, but they have been going on for a couple of weeks at least.  There are so many of them that it completely fills the devicesetupmanager\admin file within a day or
two and my Administrative Events log file is virtually useless because of the large number of superfluous devicesetupmanager warnings.  I’ve searched for these warnings on Google, but there is nothing recent and no resolution for the problem, however,
many people have experienced the same warnings and errors.  Any suggestions?

These 4 warnings are posted simultaneously with an Event ID 112 also in the DeviceSetupManager Admin Event log.  The info for that error is:

Device ‘[STB]Cats’ ({14dc9380-005e-1000-8f46-8018a7d767a2}) has been serviced, processed 4 tasks, wrote 0 properties, active worktime was 0 milliseconds.

The unit in question is a set top boax (tuner) for a TV.  Detailed information is:
