Method 1: Restart your device

  • Just asking around, because I cannot get into the game for the Forsaken Shores Update.

    I’ve tried like 50+ times at this point, and nothing is working. I get the Coarsebeard error every time I try to reach the crew screen. Nobody else I’ve talked to is having this issue, so I’m not sure what’s going on.

    If anyone has any insight, I’d love to hear it, because I’m at a loss here, and frustrated.

    1. Make sure your game is up to date/finished updating.
    2. Have you tried doing a full reboot on your device/console and trying again?

    Yes, to both.

    I updated the game already, and have double and triple checked to make sure there hasn’t been any ninja patches or anything that I missed in the store. Game is completely up to date, but the error still persists.

    I’ve also restarted the game over a dozen times, restarted my internet connection, and the computer itself, but to no avail. The errors persist, and I’m stranded on land here….

    I sent in a support ticket, and they mentioned that I should wait a bit, which I’ve been doing for almost 2 hours now. I’m awaiting an additional response at this point, because nothing has worked so far. Hence why I’m asking around for help.

  • @cpt-vunderbar Same problem for me. I figured I give it sometime and they might correct it. Tonight I just uninstalled and reinstalled the game and still error code. I’m a PC player.

    Yeah, I did the same thing.
    I did get in yesterday afternoon, so I’m thinking it’s a server issue on Rare or Microsoft’s end. The Xbox app wasn’t working yesterday after around 4:30pm EST, so that could have something to do with it.

    I haven’t really gotten a straight answer from Rares’ support team, though they’ve said they’re looking into it.

  • I have had the Coarsebeard error for 2 days.

    Reinstalled the game just now. Still an error. I live on an Island with a 3MB/s connection, so donwloading 36 gigs is a lengthy process.

    I don’t see how they have not posted any data on this error considering the cost of the game and that we literally cannot play at all.

    I hope they help us soon. None of the «tips» work.

A connection to Xbox live and/or the Sea of Thieves services was disrupted or lost. If on Xbox One, Rare suggests to check the console’s network status via the Settings > Network menu. On a PC, determine that you have a stable Internet connection.

Alpacabeard[]

Error received when the Xbox Account has not purchased Sea of Thieves and tries to log in to the servers.

Amethystbeard[]

Can display during the matchmaking flow on the Insider version of Sea of Thieves. Should a Player see this error it means that they are not signed up to the Insider programme. A player can sign up at https://www.seaofthieves.com/insider, providing that they are 18+ years of age and either own a Game Pass subscription or a physical or digital copy of Sea of Thieves.

Alternatively, a Player may have been removed from the old pioneer programme or the new Insider programme for breaking the Terms and Conditions agreed to when signing up. For further support on this issue Rare suggests raising a support request at https://support.seaofthieves.com/hc/en-gb.

Emeraldbeard[]

When trying to join a crew session that has been closed (usually when trying to rejoin a game when the crew/server has crashed). This one is presumably only for Adventure Mode, whereas Trimmedbeard is for Arena Mode.

This is an issue with Sea of Thieves servers. Rare states that in this case, the team is hard at work to get everyone back in and playing as quickly as possible!

Rare have either taken the servers down for an update, or they are not currently running a playtest session at the time. Rare suggests to verify whether there is a scheduled playtest running in the player’s timezone.

This error is displayed when a player has been kicked from the game as a result of getting banned.

Appears to be a connection issue to the game servers. This error usually follows strange in-game behavior such as chests that cannot be opened, skeletons that cannot be killed, or random ship placement.   • The Servers Are Closed – The game is not running a play session when a player tried to log in, so they cannot play Sea of Thieves at that moment.
  • A player has more than one Gamertag signed in to their console. Rare suggests to sign all other accounts out of the console, and only launch the game with the one account that has been invited to play.

Can arise if new players are temporarily prevented from joining the game as part of an effort to resolve server issues.
