How to Fix Sea of Thieves CoarseBeard Error?
Here we have made a list of solutions that you are able to do if you want to fix the Sea of Thieves CoarseBeard error yourself. Before you restart everything, you have to check the server status of Sea of Thieves first. Probably, Sea of Thieves is struggling with a temporary outage. Please try one of the quick fixes below to fix the Sea of Thieves CoarseBeard error quickly.
Method 1: Restart your device
A simple restart will be able to fix a lot of problems.
-
- At the first step, you have to turn off the device completely by pressing and holding the power button.
- If your device is connected with a power cable, you are able to unplug the power cable from the device for at least one minute after you have turned off the device.
- After that, you are able to plug the power cable back in and turn the device back on.
Method 2: Restart your Modem and Router
The error code could be related to an underlying network connectivity problem. Therefore, it is a good idea to restart your modem and router.
-
- At the first step, you have to unplug your modem (and your router, if it is a separate device) from power for approximately 30 seconds.
- Then, you are able to plug the modem back into the power outlet first. Please wait 1-2 minutes before turning on the router. You need to wait for all of the panel lights on your modem to turn green.
Method 3: Clear the cache and app data
Clear the cache and app data to delete any temporary data and files which may cause problems while using the app.
Clearing the cache on your Xbox is an easy process that just takes a few minutes. It is similar to turning off your Xbox, but with several additional steps.
Here are steps to clear the cache of an Xbox:
-
- At the first step, you have to hold down the Power button on the front of your Xbox One until it turns off.
- After that, you are able to unplug your Xbox’s power cord from the back.
- Now, you are able to press and hold the Power button on the front of your Xbox.
- Please wait at least 30 seconds before plugging in the power cord again.
- Afterwards, you need to restart your Xbox One by pressing the Power button.
At this time, your cache should be empty, allowing your Xbox to function normally.
To clear the app data on PC:
-
- To clear the app data, you have to open the Settings app from your Start menu.
- Please head to System > Apps & Features and locate the app.
- Now, you are able to choose the app you want to reset in the list and click Advanced Options under the application’s name.
- Afterwards, you are able to click Reset to reset an app’s settings.
- Please confirm that you want to clear the app data by clicking Reset again.
At this time, the cache and app data of the app should be empty. It will allow your app to function normally. For note: Unfortunately, there is no choice to reset the settings of a Windows desktop application. When you choose a desktop application from the Apps & Features list, the Advanced Options link is not visible.
Method 4: Reinstall the app
You need to reinstall the app to delete all data and clear the app’s settings.
In several cases, certain apps may become slow or give you error code. In that case, it is a great idea to reinstall the app. Remember that when you delete an app, its local data is erased permanently, including any saved documents, scores, or settings. Just contact the developer of the app for more information.
Method 5: Update Graphics Card Drivers (PC)
If you are playing the game on a PC, you have to ensure that you have the latest graphics card drivers installed, otherwise your games may crash. Depending on your operating system and graphics card, simply you are able to install the latest drivers for your video card.
Method 6: Install DirectX 11/ DirectX 12 (PC)
You are able to try to turn off DirectX 12 or change from DirectX 12 to DirectX 11 in the video settings of the game you are trying to play. The differences between DirectX 11 and DirectX 12 are significant enough. DirectX 11 gives a much smoother framerate for low-to-midrange PCs.
Method 7: Disable the Nvidia In-game Overlay (PC)
The Nvidia Geforce Experience overlay will be able to cause video errors while playing the games or watching videos. Please turn off the in-game overlay.
-
- Firstly, open GeForce Experience and login if you are not logged in yet.
- After that, click the Settings at the top right.
- Then, click the General tab. Turn off in-game overlay. Close the program.

Just asking around, because I cannot get into the game for the Forsaken Shores Update.
I’ve tried like 50+ times at this point, and nothing is working. I get the Coarsebeard error every time I try to reach the crew screen. Nobody else I’ve talked to is having this issue, so I’m not sure what’s going on.
If anyone has any insight, I’d love to hear it, because I’m at a loss here, and frustrated.
-
@cpt-vunderbar Ahoy matey!
Two things to check and try…
- Make sure your game is up to date/finished updating.
- Have you tried doing a full reboot on your device/console and trying again?
-
I have not yet been home to try the new update, so I can’t comment on your specific issue. Have you tried reinstalling the patch?
-
@musicmee
Yes, to both.
I updated the game already, and have double and triple checked to make sure there hasn’t been any ninja patches or anything that I missed in the store. Game is completely up to date, but the error still persists.
I’ve also restarted the game over a dozen times, restarted my internet connection, and the computer itself, but to no avail. The errors persist, and I’m stranded on land here….
I sent in a support ticket, and they mentioned that I should wait a bit, which I’ve been doing for almost 2 hours now. I’m awaiting an additional response at this point, because nothing has worked so far. Hence why I’m asking around for help.
-
im receiving the same error not sure what to do as well

Good luck. -
@cpt-vunderbar Same problem for me. I figured I give it sometime and they might correct it. Tonight I just uninstalled and reinstalled the game and still error code. I’m a PC player.
-
@sunwolfyew
Yeah, I did the same thing.
I did get in yesterday afternoon, so I’m thinking it’s a server issue on Rare or Microsoft’s end. The Xbox app wasn’t working yesterday after around 4:30pm EST, so that could have something to do with it.I haven’t really gotten a straight answer from Rares’ support team, though they’ve said they’re looking into it.
-
I have had the Coarsebeard error for 2 days.
Reinstalled the game just now. Still an error. I live on an Island with a 3MB/s connection, so donwloading 36 gigs is a lengthy process.
I don’t see how they have not posted any data on this error considering the cost of the game and that we literally cannot play at all.
I hope they help us soon. None of the «tips» work.
-
im still getting the same error as well its been 2 days for me to. I was able to play early this morning 8 am but I had to go to work. Tonight its just error after error.
-
In this morning at just after 7am EST.
I guess that Dread Pirate CoarseBeard has been sunk.
Hip hip!
-
And NOW i can’t get back in.
COARSEBEARD.
-
Ya, I was able to play in the morning but had to leave to do a show with military and fire engines. Now it’s just the same error code at 9:00 pm eastern.
