To solve this issue, please install the latest scanner driver. If you use MFL-Pro Suite Software,
- Click Start =>Control Panel =>Programs =>Programs and Features.
- Select Brother MFL-Pro Suite from the list, click Uninstall and follow the on screen instructions.
- Once the uninstallation is completed, disconnect the interface cable and restart the PC.

Did you try to check the cable connection by removing and pluging it again. If not please do it.
I believe it is the connection problem, if you can uninstall and reinstall the scanner driver again or repair it using the printer software CD. I might help the problem.
