Freeman Pro.
Так и есть EEPROM read error, по каким то причинам не может прочитать содержимое EEPROM. Официальное лечение — Replace the main controller PCB. То есть всю плату управления. Если не знакомы с принципом работы EEPROM то несите в сервис. Потому как сама плата стоит дорого.

I have a customer IPF610 that the user called for print head temp error. When tech arrived and re-set the printer, it came up with message to close top cover, even though it was closed. At some point the error E196-404E started and I do not find reference to it in the manual.
I have replaced the main board with a known good one, and now, THAT board displays the same error. I have used the L Printer Service tool to flash / upgrade the firmware to 1.41 without success.
I now have two printers down due to this error and I do not know what it means and I don’t want to order a new main PCB only to have something cause IT to fail.
Any suggestions or assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Re: IPF610 E196-404E
Thank you zoraldinho for the reply, however, I have already forced update the Fimrware to 1.41 (from 1.40) and the error will not allow me to get into service mode at all. I can get the «S» to display in the upper right corner of the display, but the message LED lights up and it will not let me proceed any further.
Again, I have placed a known good board into the machine and it seems to have corrupted it as well. I nnow have two main boards with the same symptoms.
Is there a way to do a hard re-set of the main board (shorting pins) or key combination?
Thanks for the assistance.

Re: IPF610 E196-404E
Did you folow the PCB replacement mode in special mode?If you are not,you have eeprom conflict.
Special Mode
This printer supports the following special modes in addition to the service mode:
— PCB replacement mode
— Download mode
1. PCB replacement modeThis mode is used when replacing the main PCB or MC relay PCB.
By executing this mode,
— Backup data of the settings and counter values stored in the MC relay PCB are moved to the new main PCB.
— The data such as the settings and counter values are copied to the MC relay PCB.a) Entering the PCB replacement mode
Follow the same procedure as that for entering the service mode.
(With the «Paper Source» button and «Information» button pressed down, turn on the «Power» button.)
When the printer starts up, compare the serial number memorized in the main PCB’s EEPROM with that memorized in the MC relay PCB’s EEPROM. If they do
not match, or no serial number is memorized in either EEPROM, enter the PCB replacement mode.
While you are in the PCB replacement mode, the MESSAGE LED, roll media LED, and ONLINE LED are lit.
b) Procedure
Select «CPU BOARD» or «MC BOARD» using the [ ] and [ ] buttons, and then press the [OK] button to determine it.
— CPU BOARD
Select this after replacing the main PCB.
The data in the MC relay PCB is copied to the main PCB.
— MC BOARD
Select this before replacing the main PCB.
The data in the main PCB is copied to the MC relay PCB.
Use this when the MC relay PCB is a new one.
c) Exiting the PCB replacement mode
Turning off the Power button of the printer allows you to exit the PCB replacement mode.
For details on how to replace the PCB, see Parts Replacement Procedure > Disassembly/Reassembly > Points to Note on Disassembly and Reassembly > Boards.Practice makes perfect

Re: IPF610 E196-404E
I have checked that the serial number stored in the main PCB is the same as the machine. I am not able to get to the point in the manual to replace the PCB. Is there a way to «re-sync» it? The E196-404E prevents me from even getting into the service mode. The only mode I can get to is to update the firmware, which I have already done. It will let me view information (i.e. firmware, serial no, etc)

HI all,
Just wanted to share what happened with the ipf5100. Yesterday after powering it on it went on and turned off within 10 seconds.
After that I was unable to power it on again.
I did some searching and found an article that the machine resets when taken off the power grid for something like 15 minutes.
Indeed this enabled me to power it on again, but it flashed a message and an error code e196-404C — call for service.
Google is our friend in these situations, but it didn’t help much on the error code itself. It means something like registration mismatch when a pcb is replaced.
Anyway, here I foud the following article:
https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/1377846-canon-ipf750-plotter-service-call-error-e161-403e
It has nothing to de with the ipf5100, but I got from this the idea top press to ther buttons while powering on.
After a lot of trials I found got a response from the printer when pressing both Information and Feeder Selection at the same time, while powering on. It responded with a question (don’t remember exactly what question). Apparently it goes into some sort of maintenance mode. I answered yes and it responded with: executing it….
After a while it said: Done… please power off.
After that I was able to power it on again and everything looked normal again.
Just wanted to share this as it might save some of you using one of this series ipfx100 printers
