To convert a custom ADM file into ADMX format, install ADMX Migrator and then follow
these steps:
- Click Start, click All Programs, click FullArmor, expand FullArmor ADMX Migrator, and
then click ADMX Editor. - Respond to the UAC prompt as required to open ADMX Migrator.
- Right-click the root node in the console tree and then select Generate ADMX From ADM.
- Browse to locate and select your custom ADM file and then click Open.
- Click Yes when the message appears stating that the ADM file was successfully converted
to ADMX format. This will load the new ADMX file into the ADMX Migrator.
The converted ADMX template file is saved in the %UserProfile%\AppData\Local\Temp
folder using the same name as the .adm file but with the .admx extension. Copy this .admx
file to the central store for your domain and you’ll be able to configure the policy settings
defined by it when you create and edit domain-based GPOs.
How to convert ADM file?

1. ADM conversion software

2. Programs that support ADM
Try this route if you haven’t found dedicated software. Open the ADM file with one of the programs that support this extension. Then save the open ADM file in another file format supported by this software. Check the subpages of individual programs to check if they support the selected extension to which you want to convert the ADM file.
Even if none of the programs will allow you to save the ADM file in the format you need, you can try to convert it through one more file format: A B C. Convert the file first from A to B, then B to C.

I’ve just had a reason to manage Office 2003 through GP, so I thought:
«Great — I’ll do it the new Vista way. Download the Office 2003 ADM files, convert them to ADMX, copy them to the Central Store and use Vista to manage them»
Noooo….
The FullArmor ADMX converter converted them, and I copied them to the central store, but the Vista Group Policy Editor Just gave loads of syntax errors, mainly with the ADML files.
I spent half an hour trying to edit them,, but just gave up and instead went back to the old way. I used Server 2003 to create a GPO with the ADM files.
I’m sure it’s not supposed to work like this. We’re repeatedly told by MS to move over to ADMX files and forget about ADMs.
The worrying thing is that if I’d had Server 2008 and not 2003, I might not have been able to do it the old XP way — I’d have been stuck.

Your supposed to migrate to Office 2007 of course! The admin kit for that version has ADMX files…

It is a good point actually. If Microsoft have made the effort to create a Compatibility Pack for Office 2000 and later for *.docx files (and the rest) it would make sense to introduce *.ADMX versions of Ork Tools if the convertor does not work.
You could try posting on the MS Newsgroups and see what reply(ies) you get.

Thanks, Michael. I posted on Friday, but no response yet. It’s now buried a long way down the newsgroup, so it’s unlikely I’ll get a response.

Hello,
there is no problem to add the .adm to the GPO where you need it with GPMC. It will be shown as before under the Administratve templates as Classic administrative template.
I assume that creating an .admx with all required additional .adml for each language is not done.

Основной способ решить эти проблемы вручную — заменить файл DLL новой копией. Кроме того, регулярная очистка и оптимизация реестра Windows предотвратит создание неправильных ссылок на пути к файлам DLL, поэтому мы настоятельно рекомендуем регулярно выполнять сканирование реестра.
DLL используется форматом Dynamic Link Library, которые являются типами Системные файлы. Загрузите новую версию ADM_dll.dll для %%os%% в списке файлов ниже. Также доступны варианты для других версий Windows (при необходимости). В текущем каталоге файлов могут отсутствовать редкие или очень старые версии ADM_dll.dll, но вы можете запросить необходимую версию, нажав на кнопку Request (Запрос) рядом с необходимой версией файла.
