  1. Press Windows + E to open Windows Explorer.

  5. To reset Winsock, type the following commands one by one and press Enter after every command:  netsh winsock reset netsh winhttp reset proxy
  6. Now to restart the services that we stopped, copy and paste the following commands and press Enter after every command: net start bits net start wuauserv net start appidsvc net start cryptsvc
  7. Restart your computer to let the changes take effect.

6. Use System Restore

  1. Go to the Search bar, type Control Panel, and click Open.CP 0x80070006

Issue

After installing Kaspersky Security for Windows Server on Windows Server 2016, you may encounter an error when installing updates in the Windows Update service. The error code is 0x80070006.

Cause

This issue arises because of the Kaspersky Security for Windows Server installer. It changes the Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) and the Windows Update Service (WUAUSERV): from %systemroot%\system32\svchost.exe -k netsvcs to %systemroot%\system32\svchost.exe -k wuausvcs.

This happens regardless of whether or not the Applications Launch Control component is installed.

Solution

  1. Open the command line.
  2. Run the following command:

    sc config bits binPath=»C:\Windows\System32\svchost.exe -k netsvcs”

  3. Then run the command:

    sc config wuauserv binPath=»C:\Windows\system32\svchost.exe -k netsvcs»

  4. Restart the server.

4. Start BIST, Cryptographic, MSI Installer and Windows Update Services again. Copy-Paste following command in command window and press Enter.

net start wuauserv
net start cryptSvc
net start bits
net start msiserver

5. Type Exit to close command prompt. Now try to download and install update again and most probably you will not get error code 0x80070006.

Method 5: Run DISM Command Line Tool to Fix 0x80070006

DISM command repairs corruption in Windows Updates. You can use it as follows:

Step 1: Open Command Prompt as Administrator.

Step 2: Run following commands one by one. It may some time to finish so be relaxed and keep patience.

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Step 3: After finishing this process, try to install windows update again.
